    Welllll, usual suspects in Congress are all hopped up about impeaching Trump with AOC and the Ayatollahess beating the drum over a C-17 Air Force transport plane stopping at Prestwick International Airport for crew rest and fuel. Seems they were given cut rate room accommodations at the Trump Turnberry resort and free rounds of golf. The Inquisitors are all afluff as it hasn’t been unusual for AF crews to use Turnberry when other closer accommodations were available.

    First off, these international flights are planned out to consider the plane’s shortest/best route and any, if any, stops needed from origin to destination. These are planned out well ahead of time using data from a number of sources and arrangements for crew rest accommodations are made not by the crew but by the Defense Travel Service (DTS) when they get the requests after the flight’s itinerary is set. This flight, a joint Guard and Active Duty flight had to be set up in advance so the Rats are going to have to find a whole slug of people in the system that will have to say Trump had a hand in this…and that ain’t gonna happen. All they have is manufactured innuendo and they’re gonna run with it.

    The DTS gets a special government rate bid from hotels willing to lower their rates for military personnel on duty. It isn’t unusual for hotels close to airports to have higher military rates than those farther away. Hotels close to airports charge more because they can and they aren’t about to let a room go to military rates that they can get more money for. In this case the other hotel with a military rate was the Marriott and it was about $26 a night more. The Turnberry rate was less and was approved by the DTS. I used to stay either where I wanted as long as it met my per diem rates or, in a few cases, in lodgings picked for me ahead of time. Rarely did I stay on a base as the lodgings on bases are usually first-come. If required I’d check in at base housing but rarely were quarters available as there are too few rooms and too many travelers. On one memorable 3 week assignment in a desirable location a senior officer and I never spent more than 3 nights in one place. We were required to use base housing when available and his rank would get us in but considering the location and scarcity of military rooms we were frequently getting bounced by colonels and above.

    The free stuff is OK to use too unless it was offered ass an enticement to take the room over other offers. As the reservations were made by DTS, no problem, especially as cheaper digs weren’t available. I used to get all sorts of perks, from airlines to hotels to rental cars, when the Feds set my travel up, all came with the room. I could use or not use them as I desired. No crime there.

    The Prestwick airport isn’t a ranger to military aircraft, I’d landed a refueled there just as I have in Bangor, Maine, the airports also have contracts with the government as to fuel rates. It may not be as inexpensive as it would be at a military airbase but a lot of factors go into calculating flight routes and stops and even if a given airbase can support that mission.

    There are a lot of facts getting tossed about and I’m betting the Rats will ignore them on their impeachment quest. They won’t find anything substantive but they’ll be able to raise a lot of dust and use their inquisition as an excuse for not doing any real work in Congress.

      Good day to you, Nyet! The plate of eggs, etc. will be sufficient to stoke the system enough to get me to the California coast and a sit down for a few minutes…

      …though I may have to bring my own bench back! Either that or I could trudge over to Sacramento and sit with this guy for a while…

      …before I head on down to Laguna Beach to place the body on this art bench (Lagunans considering themselves all arty and such)…

        A good friend of ours was commissioned to do a statue of Mr Woldenberg for the park named after him on the riverfront in NOLA. His style was lost wax and he’d create life-size model complete with period clothing he’d hunt down. The dressed model would be stiffened, cut into pieces, the pieces encased in a special plaster and then burned in a furnace to create a mold. Molten bronze would be poured in and the parts when cooled would be joined and finished.

        His statue has Mr Woldenberg sitting on a plate marble base talking to a young boy, it wasn’t meant to be a bench but it’s turned into an iconic piece in the park. Over the last nearly 30 years it’s been there (that long?) it’s become an interactional piece. People sit on Mr Woldenberg’s lap or seat children or pets on him. His hand’s is outstretched and let’s just say 30 years worth of interesting things involving it. I’m betting that many thousands of pictures of tourists sitting next to either or both figures, singularly or in groups, have been taken – I remember walking by and seeing things from a diaper bag to a beer in his hand and both figures are regularly covered in Mardi Gras beads during the season. For something that wasn’t designed to be a bench it sure became one.

    Dogs got me up at 415 this morning…just had to go out. Front yard area had rabbits so BD had to slow-chase a rabbit then make the 3rd of a mile driveway tour while I stood outside to make sure she knew this wasn’t extended play time.

    I listened to four Great Horned Owls, spread out over about a square mile, discussed who owned what property. The neighbors thru the woods and at the top of the next hill have a farm with a lot of cattle and like many others have added donkeys to the mix to deter coyotes. Well while I’m waiting…waiting…waiting…the cattle start up with that agitated mooing as a pack of coyotes start that barking/yipping locating sound they make. About that time the donkeys start braying and it’s showtime.

    It’s quite a different experience out here at night than it was in the city, a whole ‘nuther orchestra indeed.

      But will it be enough that Zimmerman will be able to take the, uh “family” – for lack of a better word, – of Martin, and the attorneys, and the Prosecutors, and the media, back to civil court and crucify them?

      I am not really fond of the idea of punitive damages in general, but all of the above parties acted with malice aforethought, except for maybe the womb and sperm donors who were probably, maybe looking to ease their own guilt. But as for the others? Flogging them in the streets wouldn’t be good enough. They need to be made an example of, so that this never happens again. The damage that they caused will take decades to undo.

      I don’t just refer to their ruining of Zimmerman’s life, either.

    Saints won a heart stopper tonite, less than 30 seconds of possession left before game’s over, drove to 57 yards in plays and with just 2 seconds left on the clock their kicker nails a 57 yard field goal to win by 2 points. This is the 1st season opener the Saints have won in 6 years.

    Downtown NOLA is out on the streets getting drunk…doesn’t be needin’ no reason for that but the win gives ’em a fig leaf.
