      They’re right about not getting any more BUFFs, last one was made in 1962, those flying now are ancient.

      The AF stores aircraft at Davis-Monthan for possible later use. Some are stored for parts, some for recycling, some for use as targets and some, like the 52s, for economic reasons.

      The F has a limited budget to fly and maintain 52s and when the Cold War ended we didn’t need as many as we did while it was on. You move the 52s not projected for need to storage and you free up funds for things elsewhere. If AF thinks it only need X amount to support non-nuke war scenarios then they pare back the flying numbers and reallocate funds.

      The older 52 can be made flyable in short order and then flown, most likely to Tinker AFB, where it can be upgraded to the latest model. The machinery for making the 52 is long gone, what remains is the equipment to rebuild/refurbish, in all it’s a far cheaper way to go.

      The AF really needs a new bomber fleet, one designed to meet the combined Chinese/Russian threat, but it looks like we’ll be spending monies that should be used to create a new defensive fleet to feed, clothe and medicate the immigrant infection threatening to turn the US into Latino el tugurio de mierda norte.

    You know that stuff you just push aside to deal with later? Later is now, y’all. Toss that crap out! My last few days of packing up are all going to be the lazy stuff everybody doesn’t want to deal with. Paperwork, old records, furniture we don’t want. A couple of outdated propane tanks. Old lawn chairs we should have hauled off. Family things that we should have passed on to kids earlier.

    Deal with it a little at a time and someday you will be really glad you did!

      My mom and dad did that. They moved several times, each time into a smaller place and got rid of a lot. When they passed on, there was still a lot to handle, but nothing like what I have seen others have to handle.

      Though I’ve always parted with good, usable items every so many years…giving them to thrift shops or passing them on to relatives…there is still so much crammed into my apartment that I’m going through. Family papers are all in file folders and placed in Bankers Boxes. Some items such as my parents’ marriage license I’m going to frame and hopefully someone will want to hang it.

      It’s finding things I don’t remember purchasing that’s surprising. I just discovered some suede boots, totally unworn with the tags still on them. Where and when did I buy them? Not a clue. Anyway, I can no longer wear them since they have a completely flat sole and that’s out for me now. Whichever relative comes visiting next can take them back to family or help me drag them and the other stuff to my local animal shelter thrift shop.

      Next is going through the many boxes of pottery, china and collectibles. My choices will need to be ruthless.

        “My choices will need to be ruthless.” – I couldn’t have said it better myself Lucille. Afternoon….

        My bedroom consists of a bed, a night stand and boxes strewn across the rest of the floor. These are the boxes that hold my “precious stuff” and I just haven’t been able to bring myself to start the brutal but necessary task of downsizing them. Soon….maybe…..:0)

      My mother emptied a 4 bedroom house a day at a time about 5 years after my father died. She said every morning she got up and got rid of some things. Sometimes it was the stuff she saved yesterday, but she filled the car and took it to the donation center or the dump. Eventually she got down to a couch, 2chairs and the bed, the dining room table, china cabinet and chairs, plus some kitchen and bath stuff and her clothes. Only a few decorative items and lamps. Moved into a studio apartment.

      I just learned that all European and American eels are born in the Sargasso Sea, east of Florida. Eels all over the place migrate there to mate and have their young. The eel babies get back to America and Europe via the Gulf Stream. From Wikipedia:

      How the adults make the 6,000 km (3,700 mi) open ocean journey back to their spawning grounds north of the Antilles, Haiti, and Puerto Rico remains unknown. By the time they leave the continent, their gut dissolves, making feeding impossible, so they have to rely on stored energy alone.[6] The external features undergo other dramatic changes, as well: the eyes start to enlarge, the eye pigments change for optimal vision in dim blue clear ocean light, and the sides of their bodies turn silvery, to create a countershading pattern which makes them difficult to see by predators during their long open-ocean migration. These migrating eels are typically called “silver eels” or “big eyes”.

      Isn’t that interesting?

        Knew that, when I was a kid the eels were regularly fished and eaten in New England and we were taught about their life cycles. Ditto Germany where we had fishmongers whose windows were stuffed with hanging smoked eels, they loved telling you how their parents swam to the Sargasso Sea, mated and the elvers swam alllllll they way back to wherever they were caught and served up for your dining pleasure – some stores even had maps on the wall.

        I’m betting the stories were to help take the sting out of the prices of eel, they were expensive for Germans, or to make an American feel more a ease as we walked down the street eating a smoked eel as if it were a churro.

        We’d also see eels slithering through dewy grass hiking between water sources in Connecticut, they are some dedicated little snacks, too bad they aren’t as appreciated here as they once were.

      I am surprised that people actually still live like this. How elite of me. I’m not sure I could eat eel. That was very interesting, though.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

    Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

    Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
    Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

    We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
    Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

    In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
    be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
    and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
    thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
    who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

    In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
