Hotter ‘n the the hinges of Hell. At least we have a huge dose of dry air coming through so that mythical ‘dry heat’, supposedly better than ‘wet heat’ will be with us for a week or so.

Summer will end with the Autumn equinox, in September. Sun has crossed the equator. Then make sure the wood pile is close to the door, coal bin is full, kindling is dry and covered.
Now Czar, Coffee is simmering and tea water is boiling, and the stove fire is hot.

Yeah, summer ends on the books but we’ll still be eating it well into October or November. The coffee sounds good though, never too hot for coffee/tea.

I had an uncle who drank hot coffee all the time. People would ask him how he could drink something hot when it was so hot. He said the hot coffee pushed the heat out. That usually ended the discussion with laughs and puzzled looks.

I used to have a cup of coffee with me at most hours while I was awake but I’ve cut way back on that, I’m retired and don’t need to stay awake and fake enthusiasm in what I’m doing.

I’m sort of impulsive, I have to have something caffeinated around so one’s gone and another’s on the line. Warm coffee, room temp coffee, cold Diet Coke, room temp Diet coke, something’s just about always within reach.

I’m thinkin’ we still have about a month or so in SE Texas. Still topping out in upper 90’s, and that’s just the humidity. 😉 Soon, very soon.

We have about a week of 98 or better heat that should be summer’s last hurrah here. Weatherguessers are showing a high that’s pumping Mexican heat to us, they never say that but their maps with the little arrows show undocumented weather coming from there to here.

Everyone went running to mom for a nickel or a dime to dash off to the ice cream trucks. Oh how wonderful.
My husband tells the story occasionally of a real entrepreneur in his little town when he was growing up. A man took a panel truck and outfitted it with shelves and a small cooler. He built a driving grocery store and stocked it with most needed items, and he drove all around their town and community. Mothers loved the convenience and that’s how he made his living while it lasted.
He would not have had to worry about milk and eggs, so had room for other stuff. I bet he didn’t sell lots of meats because it was a farming community. I think I remember ny husband saying that if the ladies had special requests he’d bring it next time. I’ve never heard of this anywhere else.

Talk about entrepreneurship! I bet that guy was successful in whatever he went on to tackle in life.
We always had a Tupperware container full of coins in one of the buffet drawers, we’d run inside grab our money and join the line.
Then we’d all sit on the grass or hot cement and enjoy the sweet cool treats of summer.

Do they still have toasted almond and Strawberry shortcake? Most times I had to settle for the less expensive fudgecicle, but they were awesome too!

Yeah, they were pretty awesome too. Real Ice cream made with real cream. I never knew what the orange flavored outer coating was, just that you had to eat them fast before the good part dropped off the stick! (Good for the ants)!

Afternoon everyone…came across this little beauty last spring and set it aside.
It was located high in the back of the original bank vault shelving and is the actual sign used when the bank opened its doors.
The tin sign is painted black with grooves where ‘cards’ can be interchanged. The changeable placards are black with silver lettering, all contained in the original heavy black cardboard box with silver lettering proclaiming it “The Levey Collection” of ‘Holiday Closing Signs’.
The Levey Bros & Co that produced the sign were movers and shakers in the Publishing industry in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their first building was built in 1889-1890 & they had a little side business goin’ wherein they provided ‘bank supplies’….

On the light side, my Labor Day guests yesterday are Canadian. They definitely wanted to go out for Mexican food since, according to them, there are virtually no Mexican food restaurants in Western Canada. That gave me the idea…maybe Mexicans could be encouraged to keep on going thru the U.S. and ask for asylum in Canada and then open restaurants there, become successes, then provide jobs either for their fellow asylum seekers or for Canadians.

I’m wondering if the worst of the storm has passed us by here. It was supposed to be really windy about 1:00 and finally got a little (just a little) breezy a while later. And, now…………nothing. Kinda disappointing after the long wait. At least here.
