      Some areas of Texas have real problems with wild boar. Down here we shoot them and turn them into bacon or BBQ. 😉

        That’s certainly the sensible thing to do. I wonder if Barcelona or Spain has restricted gun/ammunition laws so that firearms aren’t available for the general populace to get rid of them.

          We had a problem across the road, so we helped them set up traps, monitor them & dispose of the pigs & piglets. Either we ate them all (got over 100 total) or they moved away because they got the idea…. We know they’ll be back someday.
          Sound like the cities may need to do what Jefferson Parish sheriff deputies did with the nutria who were eating the plants & roots which held the drainage canals open: every evening they drove along the canals & shot them. Only deputies (& some evenings the sheriff himself) were allowed to shoot, however. Dead bodies were donated to the zoo to feed the animals there.

      And one of the problems is it’s easier to get an abortion than a hunting licence in the EU – no kidding. I was looking at bringing a bolt action rifle to Europe for a boar hunt and the &*^%$#@ hoops I had to jump through made it a nightmare. The European hunt club said it was no less hard for their people to do so and even maintaining a rifle was an Italian opera in itself.

      The animal rights jerks are worse there than here, they are looking at birth control as a method to control the population. Needless to say that there’s a paucity of vets willing to neuter a huge, extremely smelly and very toothed wild boar. That’s another thing – we’re not necessarily talking Porky or Petunia gone off the reservation and going all hippy – we’re talking Russian/European wild boars – a pig with an attitude.

      Let’s not forget that pigs are omnivores – and cannibals. If you ever want to get rid of an inconvenient corpse and have wild pigs (or domestic for that matter) around just toss it out in their dining area and it’s g-o-n-e. If you hunt wild pigs you know that some – usually females as they work together, males are loners – will hunt you. Ain’t unusual to be out hunting them and hear them in the brush around you, they’ll usually (but not always) run in open country but a sounder will just as likely doubleback and scope YOU out. Females can also get pregnant at 6 months old and one sow usually kicks out 20 piglets a year.

      Forget trapping, pigs are at least as smart as a dog and you can’t catch all of them in a trap so the ones that see the trap snap will teach others to avoid it. We had 3 traps on 80 acres and it would be weeks between trappings if we caught some. Worst time was if you caught piglets and momma hung around – quietly – in the brush waiting for you to come back. We took a couple of hundred over 6 months before they moved out but as we have thousands of acres of woods and fields around us they’re still here, just not right right here. We also have a Federal wildlife management area to our west where it’s been made very VERY difficult to hunt them so the pigs retreat there and breed, under Federal protection, like illegal aliens.

      They’re a helluva problem here and getting worse, I don’t go out unarmed and I am very careful when I’m working around any place they can hide – I usually have a dog with me. They’re in New Orleans, they used to stop traffic on the 2ndary road to our NASA building. City’s been trying to play footsie with the coyotes, has since the mid-80s, and keep the animal rights nutjobs happy so the government and the media are more than happy that the hog situation is unnoticed by the population as are the thugs and quite possibly the NOPD as they provide a really good body disposal service and that in turn helps keep the murder rate down.

        Sounds like the animals are a menace and need to be treated accordingly.

        I’m very tired of animal rights coming before people rights. Wild animals have the tendency to become a menace and I want the right to be able to deal with them effectively if they do, and not just by relocating them and making them someone else’s problem either.

          These hogs, at least here, are invasive, not natural. Their origin, according to our wildlife folks, was heavily those hogs raised free-range by the first Spanish settlers, some escaped and went wild. Their numbers were replenished also by other hogs that escaped captivity. Our earliest problems with immigrantes illegales.

    So, if my count is right, there are three mass shootings this week (depending on how you count a week. I spent too long in online classes in college, so, tonight is the end of the week for me and tomorrow the first day of next week.)

    Something about this doesn’t sit right. Three shootings? Is this a false flag play? Who’s gaining from this?

    And is the media out there trying to parse why the shooters did this? Because if they are, they need to be horsewhipped.
