      I was there once. It was a heck of a climb down a rickety path and ladder on a really hot day, but an amazing place.

      Been there, got sweaty and dirty there, got Anthropology credits there. Cautionary note should be: DON’T BUILD YOUR CITIES IN HIGH PLAINS DESERTS!

      I really enjoyed the Anasazi digs. Spending the nights in the ruins of thousand year old kivas, rappelling down cliff faces to look into storage caves they’d carved into them to protect stored crops, watching BYU students try to wake up at the crack of dawn without coffee…priceless.

      Side note: I learned to rappel as an Engineer in training but NEVER ONCE used it in the military in 40 years.

    Afternoon all. Packing underway! And I cleaned out that junk drawer I’ve been whining about. Threw that crap away rather than box it up! But man, sure is slower going than I thought, even though I’m throwing away more than half my stuff rather than pack it, or giving it away. Still slow going.

    I might come out of this deal knocking that Kondo woman off her minimalism mountain and take the no crap title. We shall see.

    I was listening to a podcast over the weekend and it was a story of an honor killing in Canada. It was carried out by a Sikh family, which was unusual because I didn’t think that Sikhs went for that sort of thing. But what struck me about the story was how, when the mother of the girl (yeah, her mom was in on it, and actually was the one who told the hitmen to do what they wanted to the girl,) and uncle were in Canada when it happened, they had arranged for the murder to take place while the girl was in India, and when India wanted the pair extradited, Canada just dragged their feet about doing it.

    I wonder how much of Canada’s foot-dragging might have to do with multiculturalism, though I don’t know how big that was back in the 90s when the crime was commited. :/

    I don’t know, but I wonder.

        Their “cultural sensitivity” made then at best aiders and abetters of people who thought murdering a girl for wanting the right to do what she wanted with her own life was okay.

        As me for me, I prefer the way the British handled it when they asserted their cultural superiority over people in India who thought it was appropriate to burn a widow on her husband’s funeral pyre.

        All cultures are NOT equal.

      I remember a Mideastern family being monitored by the FBI, they’d bugged their home as they thought Papa was a terrorist. Bureau instead caught, on the tapes, Papa killing his daughter for acting ‘too western’. Bureau, as not unusual, delayed busting Psapa as they didn’t want to jinx the terrorism bust but finally did. One of the excuses I heard was that as the murder happened off of ant Federal ground it was a local matter, best the Bureau could have gotten was a Civil Rights bust…and the Bureau hates helping locals who may have a hand in something they’re doing. This was in the early 80s, well before the Clinton era PCness towards murdering Moslems.
