Fifty years ago this week, the Apollo 11 mission traveled to the moon. The rocket launched on July 16, 1969, and the Eagle landed on the moon on July 20, 1969.

It was one of those occasions that every American alive and old enough to remember will never forget. We remember where we were, who we were with, and what happened. I spent it with my 17-month old baby girl, my husband and his aunt and uncle at their home. They had a beautiful in-ground pool, and a terrific family room where we watched the moon landing on television. It was amazing!Neil Armstrong died in 2012 at the age of 82, but Buzz Aldrin, 89, and Michael Collins, 88, are still living.

Considering technology at the time, their successful mission was a triumph. Knowing what we know now, it is truly amazing!

This is the rocket that got them there and back.

    Posted this next door, thought I’d post it here so you could see where your tax dollars are being spent:

    The last C-130U ‘Spooky’ is home from the war and looking at being turned out to pasture. It’s being replaced by the Block 30 upgraded C-130J.

    The ‘J’ model is a beast, it carries the same 105mm cannon as its predecessors had but has an upgraded fire control suite and a new 30mm super accurate gun that can drop a round in a tea cup. The ‘J’ will also carry pods under the wings that can fire Hellfire missiles or a new slim 250-pound smart bomb. It will also have AGM-176 missiles on it, facing backwards. The missiles can be fired and then corrected in flight to attack targets in any relationship to the aircraft. This is a far cry from the old AC-47s with the three manually fired Vulcans on board, I’m gonna see how I can beg a slot at Eglin to see this beast fire.

    BTW, rather un mentioned by the MSM was that some of the AC-130s being flown in support of our Syria operations were jammed by ground ECM stations. Now there was nothing said officially about who was jamming their systems, making the weapons team check and recheck their data to make sure they were actually firing at the targets they wanted to, BUT I think we can safely assume that it wasn’t ISIS, the half-assed Syrians or Hezzbollah…leaving only the Russians. Makes me wonder if the new J-model might have some sort of HARM round on board to target SAMs or jamming units? Hmmmmmm…

    Total rain today here was 6.6″ over 24 hours – piece of cake. Total for 3 days is just over 7 inches.

    Ground was dry so the first two light days just broke the surface while today’s soaked in mostly. All of the creeks and rivers were quite low and had lots of free space left to take runoff but there doesn’t seem to be that much of it. So much for the predicted disaster.

    I was too tired last night to put together a 10 smiles list.

    Many of you are praying for my cousin, this is us when I was 7 and he was 9.

    His health statuses about the same, currently he is enjoying his cabin with his sister and niece. Probably his last summer there but we thought that last year so I will continue to pray and hope for a miracle.

    My opinion…either Guatemala controls their citizens from migrating illegally to the U.S. and/or provides us assistance in becoming a “Safe Third Country” for non-Guatemalan illegal aliens OR all monetary aid will be cut to the percentage left over after we pay the in-essence “blackmail” money it costs to take care of the illegal aliens once they illegally arrive in the U.S. They want to enable criminal activity against the U. S. then it will cost them…

    It’s ‘rough irony’ day in the mews.

    (1) James Alex Fields, the putz who plowed his car into a crowd of protestors in Charlottesville in 2017 and ran over and killed a protestor, is being sentenced in state court. News reports that judge is awaiting ‘victim impact statements’.

    (2) In Baton Rouge a woman community activist who opened and ran a African American history museum in the city was found dead from suffocation in the trunk of a car. As the news droned on about how details weren’t available but they were going to blather on anyway, the cameraperson centered her car being towed out to impound, right past a huge road sign in front center saying ‘DEAD END’. Can’t tell me s/he didn’t see that.
