      Mornin’ lovely…Rene Lalique is most known for his glassware designs, but in his early years he apprenticed as a goldsmith and some of his jewelry designs are among what I consider to be the best of his works. I love the dragonfly.

          We love glasswork, Czarina was almost ready to get into doing so professionally at one time.

          I can remember when Ann Rice bought the old St Elizabeth’s orphanage in New Orleans. It had lain ignored for a long time and she spent a huge amount of money restoring it to as close to its original shape as possible. One of the things she did was to remove the stained glass windows from the 2nd floor chapel and send them away to be fully restored and when they came back they were beautiful.

          There are lots of 18th century churches in NOLA with gorgeous stained glass, well worth the look on a trip, the old time/Old World craftsmanship is stunning.

            I love all kinds of glass work too, everything from old dishes to fine stained glass and the first city in the world I’d travel to if I won the lottery would be Venice, and the first thing I would do is get on a ferry to Murano to see the wonderful craftsmen and artists at work.

            Shh, please, we must not tell the Pope that I put Venice over the Vatican and Rome. I would of course make it there before I head off to Dublin. Then the rest of my travels, aside from the holy land, would be to wild places, far from too many people.

            It’s kind of funny how I fell in love with glass. I was somewhat of a tomboy, and I never was really into girly girl stuff, and having three sons didn’t help. Then I fell into the home improvement industry in a time when there were very few women working in the field, and that didn’t help.

            Then my mother died and I had to clean out her house. She was a hoarder, and it was four months of hell. But she had some beautiful old glassware, dishes, crystal, all kinds of stuff passed down from both sides of my family. At first, as I worked my way toward that china cabinet and the built in hutch on the other side of the room, I looked at that stuff as just more junk. By the time I got down to it though, my heart had changed, and as I spent time looking at similar items in antique stores, to value the stuff, I found a love and appreciation for it.

            Some of it I sold, but a lot of it I kept, or my brother and his wife did. Now I am passing in on to some of my family, and I hope someday at least my granddaughters will come to love it too.

              Maybe one day Stella 🙂 can do a stained glass thread and we can post pictures.

              My mom has (supposedly and 95% likely true) Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass in her house. My dad and his friend used to buy houses and flip them before it was a thing. The glass is from one of the houses that they bought, my mom feline love with the stained glass windows so they took them out for her.

              Don’t worry about the Pope, he doesn’t seem to have that much of a interest in the Vatican either.

              I’ve posted before about the beautiful restoration Ms Rice did on St Elizabeth, she went all out and not only rebuilt but maintained it. On her full half-block of St Charles she bought there was a small church on it that she rebuilt and maintained, used it regularly during Mardi Gras for partying. She used the ‘house’ on St Charles and, at times, the two admin buildings behind it but never let the church on the Carondelet end of the property get involved. She wasn’t the voodoo queen folks played her as.

    I have been looking for a clip of this because Swalwell is so hysterically socially awkward.

    Just avoid a headache and go to the 28 second mark where Swalwell delivers a cheesy line that he was chomping at the bit to deliver, he waits for applause with an awkward smile and is disappointedâ€Ļâ€Ļ..again.

    Yea, it’s Friday. Our weather has been cold , wet & full of hail for most of the past week . Tuesday, the electricians came in an started the initial wiring of the garage and yesterday the HVAC guys showed up to install the heater. The garage contractor showed up to check on the work and he assures me that he’ll be returning next Wednesday and the concrete work and the inside of the garage should be finished by next Friday. Fingers crossed.

    Along with the other six gazillon ongoing projects on my list, I continue to work on the restoration of the vault door. This week I got far enough along with the removal on the lead paint, that I was able to discern an intricate gold filigree pin striping that frames out the door and it’s beautiful. Although it might take me another year and a whole crap load of Qtips, I’m feeling really optimistic that I’m going to be able to restore the door to it’s original glory.

    I was just outside watering, and checked my cucumber plants that I just transplanted this week. I have itty bitty little gherkins! So cute. Lots of teeny cherry tomatoes and quite a few green regular tomatoes. I also have a Cherokee Purple tomato plant, but no tomatoes yet – just blossoms. Same with my Amish Paste tomatoes.

    The family are off on a jaunt by themselves. Quiet…what a concept…LOL! So I’m reading/answering emails, eating leftover pizza, and checking what’s happening at Stella’s Place…litenmaus finding beautiful early creativity behind ugly paint jobs; Stella is is having fun seeing her veggies grow, plus learning she’s running for office; auscitizenmom is volunteering for work–leave your phone with Stella so we can call on your services, aus; czar is exhibiting totally proper righteous indignation at the flag switch; nyet has cooked another fine breakfast; lovely seems in fine fettle and feisty, to boot; czarina would like some exquisite leaded glass–take note, czar; Menagerie discovered beauty in what she’d thought was disposables; WeeWeed is coveting dragonflies of the jewelry variety; sand once again recognized there are more nuts in a Dem debate than are in a walnut grove.

    Stella, I made the severe mistake of reading the comment section at CTH for the story about the murder of Mackenzie Lueck (Utah Police Announce Arrest in Case of Missing Utah Student Mackenzie Lueckâ€Ļ). Some really strange folk/trolls are posting over there disparaging the victim, using specious websites to justify their contentions.

    Can someone go over there and clean up this filth? It shames the CTH community and new readers who may look to that site for truth will be shocked.
