Tis another blue monday, Dave Bartholomew died this weekend. Dave was Fats Domino’s producer and writer, working with Fats on so many of his hits, Blue Monday being one. It’s been a tough few months for NOLA music.
I was doing a detail at a nighttime fundraiser and was watching the back gate of the venue to make sure the wrong people didn’t slip in.
I’m out there at the gate when a big dark car pulls up, I step out, the car stops and the window comes down. The driver says that he’s there to deliver the occupants and I ask, looking at the list, who they are. A window comes down and of the back comes a voice: “We’re the Dixie Cups dawlin!”. I look in the back and sure enough, the Dixie Cups. One waves and, smiling I say: “Didn’t recognize you for a second, you don’t look like you did in the 60s.” A smile and comes back: “Neither do you ‘, neither do you”.
I’m having a wonderful time with the Indian scam callers this morning – you know, the ones who tell you in that thick Rudyard Kipling accent that they can lower your credit card interest rates ‘substantially or to zero’, those who sell you drugs, especially the ‘US Pharmacy’. Today the calls I love came in, the one where Gunga Din tells you in miserable English that ‘multiple law enforcement agencies have told Social Security to suspend your Social Security Number to prevent further criminal activities connected to it’. That’s second only to the one where they tell you that there’s some sort of Federal warrant out for you and, unless you send X amount of money to them, you’ll be arrested and jailed.
I have a couple of completely phony identities made up and I see how long I can play them until they catch on and hang up. I have found that some have elaborate setups with connections to private identity services that LEA and skip tracers use which allow them to immediately spot you’re pulling their legs and that shows you how quickly they can steal your identity and financial information.
The one this morning only lasted about 5 minutes as his lack of English skills had him hang up in frustration but it was fun while it lasted.
We get the same ones out here in Cali! They’re playing the “spoofing” game….using local sounding names and prefixes they think we’ll recognize. I recently started trying to **** with them a little myself…..just nothing but heavy breathing upon pick up. Responses have varied….childish I know, but yet, somehow still pleasurable.
I don’t answer unknown numbers any more, but in the old days a couple things I would do is put them on hold, or put the phone down, or ask for their number so that I could call them back.
My answer machine message: If this is a telemarketer please remove my number from your list. If you’re soliciting money, I don’t have any to give. If this is a friend, please leave a message, I might actually be here and pick up.
For the natier ones I’ve mentioned how I’d appreciate it if they could call me back later as I’m eating dinner and I probably have one of their deities on my plate as an entree or that ‘when the British left did they take all of their manners with them?’.
I’ve had a few try to get obscene with me only to discover that there’s no way they can compete with my 40 years of military service and the 18 years prior to that living in a military environment. Czarina is amazed at times how I can go ten minutes with them without repeating myself.
My Mom always had a message for telephone “salespeople” wishing to speak to my father after he passed away. She’d say variations of, “Well, I think it’s best to remove his name from your list. Unless you have a way to call heaven, you can’t talk to him since he’s been with the Lord since last year.”
I get some so PO’d that they’ve started screaming at me that they’re going to come to my house in the morning and keeeel me. I just casually mention that they can meet me at my local 7-11 where I’m sure there’s someone who can translate for them.
I don’t get many calls anymore but one number kept calling and calling, So I decided to answer. I turned my Bose up to an un-arrestable level and geared Tiny Tim, Tip Toe through the Tulips” . The number appeared I placed the mouth piece of my phone by the speaker and I’ve never heard from them again 🙂 .
Well the purple martins have left the house(s). They are the darndest birds, they are flying around making a noisy racket on one day and the the next morning they’re all gone. No ‘So long and thanks for all the fish’, nothing, like bnsd renters they’re gone with no warning or heads-up – poof, as I said.
On the other hand I went out onto the patio to get some plants and interrupted a chameleon orgy. They must have been about twenty, they were in the herbs and scattered in all directions when I went to the basil. No tiny reptile togas, cheap wine bottles or little bongs left behind but generally when you get that many chameleons in a couple of pots (there was catnip on the shelf) they’re not studying commercial law.

The New Orleans Parish Public Defender’s Office hired a woman to be a public defender, donning armor and defending thugs, murderers and the usual street trash that’s been polluting the city for decades. OK, notb ALL of them just the few they manage to catch. In her tenure she defended (what they admit to) over a hundred cases, a SWJ of the first water.
Now for the punchline: no one checked her CV/application and she’s not a licenced lawyer or admitted to the bar in Louisiana. The DA’s office is mum but she might not even have graduated from a law school, they’re not taking any questions about what’s an ‘ongoing investigation’.
The thing is this effects allllll of those cases. Those folks who got off will undoubtedly have their cases stand regardless but all of those convicted will have an automatic appeal, this will clog the hell out of an already clogged ;’legal system’ and most likely force the courts to shanghai local criminal lawyers to handle the overflow. There’s also the question of civil suits against the Parish by persons represented by the non-lawyer and victims whose attackers were let off.
Who needs reality programs or circuses, we gots da city and dey pro-vides a feast of comedy on a daily basis. Did I mention the government’s all Democrats?
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

For the natier ones I’ve mentioned how I’d appreciate it if they could call me back later as I’m eating dinner and I probably have one of their deities on my plate as an entree or that ‘when the British left did they take all of their manners with them?’.
I’ve had a few try to get obscene with me only to discover that there’s no way they can compete with my 40 years of military service and the 18 years prior to that living in a military environment. Czarina is amazed at times how I can go ten minutes with them without repeating myself.

My Mom always had a message for telephone “salespeople” wishing to speak to my father after he passed away. She’d say variations of, “Well, I think it’s best to remove his name from your list. Unless you have a way to call heaven, you can’t talk to him since he’s been with the Lord since last year.”

I get some so PO’d that they’ve started screaming at me that they’re going to come to my house in the morning and keeeel me. I just casually mention that they can meet me at my local 7-11 where I’m sure there’s someone who can translate for them.

I don’t get many calls anymore but one number kept calling and calling, So I decided to answer. I turned my Bose up to an un-arrestable level and geared Tiny Tim, Tip Toe through the Tulips” . The number appeared I placed the mouth piece of my phone by the speaker and I’ve never heard from them again 🙂 .

Well the purple martins have left the house(s). They are the darndest birds, they are flying around making a noisy racket on one day and the the next morning they’re all gone. No ‘So long and thanks for all the fish’, nothing, like bnsd renters they’re gone with no warning or heads-up – poof, as I said.
On the other hand I went out onto the patio to get some plants and interrupted a chameleon orgy. They must have been about twenty, they were in the herbs and scattered in all directions when I went to the basil. No tiny reptile togas, cheap wine bottles or little bongs left behind but generally when you get that many chameleons in a couple of pots (there was catnip on the shelf) they’re not studying commercial law.

Had to post this here, already put it next door but it’s too good not to share widely:
And in the neverending reality program that is New Orleans…
The New Orleans Parish Public Defender’s Office hired a woman to be a public defender, donning armor and defending thugs, murderers and the usual street trash that’s been polluting the city for decades. OK, notb ALL of them just the few they manage to catch. In her tenure she defended (what they admit to) over a hundred cases, a SWJ of the first water.
Now for the punchline: no one checked her CV/application and she’s not a licenced lawyer or admitted to the bar in Louisiana. The DA’s office is mum but she might not even have graduated from a law school, they’re not taking any questions about what’s an ‘ongoing investigation’.
The thing is this effects allllll of those cases. Those folks who got off will undoubtedly have their cases stand regardless but all of those convicted will have an automatic appeal, this will clog the hell out of an already clogged ;’legal system’ and most likely force the courts to shanghai local criminal lawyers to handle the overflow. There’s also the question of civil suits against the Parish by persons represented by the non-lawyer and victims whose attackers were let off.
Who needs reality programs or circuses, we gots da city and dey pro-vides a feast of comedy on a daily basis. Did I mention the government’s all Democrats?
