Lucille we have a picture of a large sailboat in our bedroom, except it is on rough seas and looks like a wave is about to cover it. An awesome picture, one of my keeper possessions.
Funny how things are working out. I have very few pictures I want to get rid of, but very little else I want to keep, except pots and pans and silverware.
And dang, I can’t seem to clean out the junk drawer and the alcohols cabinet!

The junk drawer should be packed and taken with you. Hey, you never know when you might need some of that misc. junk. Right? And, the alcohol is easy………….drink it. 🙂

Even as a kid, I couldn’t clean out my junk drawers. Too many treasures….until momma made me do it! 😁

Menagerie…strange the things we keep and the things we give away. There are many items I wish I’d retained, even if they had to be stored in boxes in the closets. But sometimes we have to be brutal with ourselves and simply pass on to others the things we really have no use for.

czarina33, before I forget again, you were correct. It is not the hard water causing the fingernails hair, and eyebrows to chip and break off. It seems to be related to the lack of humidity. Going from the shower or bath (90% RH) to outside (11% RH) directly after (dressed of course) seems to cause fingernails to act like shrinky dinks and break.

Many years (like about 50) we visited friends in Arizona and the humidity was about 0 and when I laid down to sleep that night, I couldn’t breathe. The air was caught in my throat and I just choked. I had to sleep with a wet washcloth over my face that night.

And just the oppo in New Orleans with 100 or near 100% humidity many times…harder to breathe for the folks with respiratory problems. Lake Ponchartrain is the city’s northern border. Miss. River to its south. And just a little further south is the Gulf of Mexico. Lots of water around.
I remember sleeping by an open window at night with air coming in when the attic fan was on. Wake up in a very moist bed and night clothes.
Kinda like sleeping with a wet washcloth over your face.

I am familiar with that. I grew up in the humid south, mostly FL. I live there now. Sometimes I open the door to go outside and it is like walking into a swimming pool.

We lived in West Palm in the 50s, didn’t have AC, and I don’t remember it as being that humid or hot. I do remember going into town (on an un-air conditioned bus) and going into McCrory’s, Belks or the old Palms theater and reveling in the AC. Used to have that particular slightly dampish and mild mildew smell to it.

Yep. I remember my shoes mildewing in the closet.

Leather ones especially. We spent most of the summer barefoot, long before we knew how dangerous it was. Luckily none of us or anyone we knew ever succumbed to the myriad deadly dangers associated with going barefoot in the Southern summer but I’m sure someone somewhere might have.
GGS and I are now, as we have in the past, going barefoot around the farm when he’s here. I’m expecting the American Association of Butinskies to file abuse charges at any time.

When we were on the job we’d have a pretty good idea of the relative humidity by the various smells in the Quarter. The urine and vomit on Bourbon had a certain piquance at different temps/humidity levels and we could double check for accuracy by going by the seafood shop dumpsters on Iberville and Royal.

It was amazing, the city and its stooges had the contracts to clean the Quarter for decades and it was always, save for a the aftermath of a tropical storm or hurricane, filthy and stanky. Somehow SWD got the contract and not only picked up the garbage and actually regularly CLEANED the streets – but wait, they also sprayed a citrus perfume that had it SMELLING GOOD!!! and at a lesser price.
That lasted a couple of years and the city went back to a service with less service.

In Egypt we were miles inland from the Med and the Nile, it was pure Lawrence of Arabia desert. Temps during the day (they arranged for us to be there in August) were over 120 and humidity was really zero, we’d line up our soldiers hourly and everyone would have to stand in formation and drink a bottle of water. About four hours into the day your uniforms were caked with white mineral deposits, necessitating pills to replace what was lost.
We’d get up before dawn and have out first formation before breakfast and as the sun came up to avoid the heat while we went thru all of the morning stuff. Funniest thing was that as the sun cracked the horizon there’d be a bank of fog rolling in, it was so thick you couldn’t see the person standing next to you. It would be there for about 20 minutes and as the sun rose it would just disappear. Poof, gone as fast as it rolled in.
Your uniform would be very damp, the tentage and all of the equipment would be dripping and an amazing assortment of insect and rodent wildlife would appear out of nowhere to take advantage of the moisture. About an hour after sunrise the wildlife had disappeared again, your uniform was dry and you were back in the desert.

I love the desert. We went out to the End of the Road, turned and went about 30 miles southwest. We were in the middle of a sea of rocks, there was sand but mostly it was a sea of rocks. Only landmarks were some scattered mesas off in the distance.
The sky was almost jet black when you looked up but the air was crystal clear, it was amazing.
You gotta go to Egypt, see the sights and all (including the Coptic monasteries way out ion the desert, but also get a responsible tour way out into the desert to really appreciate and experience it.

You’ll have to try various creams for hair, skin & nails to find the ones which you can stand on you skin while they help keep moisture (some are just too greasy). Be sure to put them on wet skin or lightly towel dried skin to keep all the moiture locked in. I needed lip balm constantly, elbow & foot cream, hand lotion reapplied every time I washed my hands…

Hm. I don’t know what happened. The Prince may have had him killed. I wouldn’t be surprised. After all, it is a religion of pieces. But, I am wondering what this has to do with Iran and what they are up to. I have always felt there were forces trying to put a wedge between us and Saudi Arabia. I would put my money on Iran and those connected with the controlling leaders there, like maybe Kerry and Obama even.

Iran (the mullahs) is trying to take some of the heat off of its own back by pointing to the blood thirsty Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Simple math is that the Crown Prince (and his billions and billions of dollars) is an asset to America, Iran and its Mullahs are a drain so it doesn’t matter how much Iran stamps its foot about President Trump being in bed with the Crown Prince Iran is going to burn and the Crown Prince is going to prosper. All wailing aside.

The characterization by person who posted it at lucianne.com: “As is typical of leftists, some of the alleged “misstatements” and/or refutations, fact-checking, are petty, picayune, nitpicking and nonsensical.”
Keep this in mind the next time you read that President Trump has lied “10,000 times”.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
