Today is National Iced Tea Day. One of my favorite beverages!
There are many varieties, but I like mine plain, strong and really cold. I brew a gallon at a time, half Earl Grey and half Darjeeling. Nice and dark with a bit of citrus from the Earl Grey.
My grandson is a big tea drinker, both hot and cold. His favorite cold variety is an Arnold Palmer – half tea and half lemonade.
What is your favorite warm weather beverage?

Yes, on the tea…

…especially Egyptian licorice and mint tea from Yogi.
A group of women friends and I would meet once a quarter for tea at various tea rooms or hotels around Los Angeles. We would dress for the occasion, often with hats. We’d also have tea gatherings several times a year at each others’ homes, using our tea services supplemented by special antique cups/saucers. Those were such fun times. Wonderful memories of wonderful women.

Hey, sand! It was a lot of fun. An absolutely fabulous group of women…myself and 3 others met on the job in 1978. The rest were friends of one of my co-workers, plus my mother and my best friend’s mother.
Everyone just fit in right away…totally non-gossipy…by far the most unusual group of women I’ve ever been friends with, seeing each other through on many a downturn, illness, accident or breakup. Christmas was always held at the home of one gal and that was the only gathering in which our men were invited. Which was fine with them as they’d all rather be at a sporting event anyway during the rest of the year. LOL!
Four of the group have passed away; and I stay in touch via phone or email with the others. Miss each one of them and will forever.

My poor wee British husband had never had iced tea in his life when he met me. He still only drinks it hot, with milk and sugar.
However, he had to learn how to make iced tea when he went to work in management for a large restaurant chain. He makes it better than anyone I know! Now he makes at least 2 HUGE urns every day! That’ll teach him.
My fav is Red Rooibus!

My Brit grandmother by ‘tea in those little bags’. We still have a real tea strainer and a tea ball though living in the South, the American-Australia, out tea is culture is Brit-derived but someone decided to put ice in it along the way.
I can’t see me sitting down with a BBQ pulled-pork sammich and a cuppa hot cha, that tall glass of iced tea just tops that Southern food off perfectly.

As far as I can tell, I’m the only southerner who never liked sweet tea, but I have converted my husband over to what my sons call the dark side. I like almost every kind of tea except anything with sugar in it.

I may also be one of the few women down here who has never owned a single monogrammed item. I have a daughter in law who’d buy monogrammed toilet paper if they made it. If they do I hope she never finds out.

I remember seeing a catalog back in the late 70’s or early 80’s that had things like monogrammed toilet paper. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was still someone offering ex-spouse, mother-in-law, politician names on each sheet.

Any Sweet Tea Comprehensive Purge would be met with armed resistance down here, we’ve gone so far as to have an actual tea farm/plant locally, they sell locally. Our revolutionary tea cartel is already plowing the ground.
I still have some GI underwear with my name written in it, does that count as monogrammed?

When I married a Yankee and went up “Nawth” I asked for iced tea and they looked at me like I had two heads. What I got was a cup of hot water, a tea bag, and a small glass of ice. AND, I had to pay for each glass. 😯 My in-laws laughed at me for drinking iced tea in the winter………..while they drank their sodas. No wonder the South tried to secede from the Union.

I get the feeling iced tea is much bigger down here than anywhere else in the country. My mama hated tea, I didn’t start drinking it until after I married.

I grew up drinking it. I couldn’t have coffee until my late teens, but iced tea was always available. I lived in S. Cal. for many years. When we moved back, we knew we were in the South because of the availability of iced tea and especially of banana pudding on the menu. We could get iced tea in s. Cal.

Yes, iced tea is big in California…but, then, early on there were a lot of transplanted Southerners who lived in the Golden State. It actually was a rarity to meet someone of my parents’ generation who had been born there.

Having lived in IL, WI, NC, TX and a few other places I can confirm that the South is unrivaled in its reverence for iced tea.
I’ll never forget my first Sweet Tea !!!
I don’t know if it is like this everywhere but the folks I knew in the south added sugar to cold tea, when it was cold, not hot, so it gave the tea an entirely different flavor than what we do up north which is add sugar to hot tea and then let it cool.

I’ve tried green tea, white tea and others but few things make a hot Southern afternoon or a good meal complete like tea bag brewed plain old iced tea. Lotta ice.

When my sons were in high school the first of the downtown coffee shops, way pre Starbucks, opened up in an old building that looks like it got transported from New Orleans up here. When my middle son was a sophomore and his older brother off to Nashville, we used to walk downtown and finish up there at the coffee shop.
Every morning I had coffee, he had hot tea and a blueberry muffin. They eventually tried to discontinue his brand of tea but he went on a campaign and they ordered and kept one tin just for him. The place is still open, Same owners, members of our parish. We often go there on Sunday mornings, but the morning tea drinker is no longer with us.
I have very good memories of those days before he got a car and I lost my morning companion for walks.

Apropos of our discussion a day or so ago, today honesty confronted reality.
I’d ordered an item from a MAJOR online service that shall go unnamed. I opened the box an lo, where I’d ordered one there was two. I decided to cal the order department and, after a long hold, got another Indian contact rep whose name is ‘Steven’ (no it ain’t).
I explained to Steven that I’d received two vice one item that I’d ordered and that I’d double checked my order on line and it showed only one so there’d been a mistake. Steve looks up the order and tells me that they’d seen their mistake and have billed me for the other. No one contacted me, their system recognized the error and instead of contacting me billed me.
Well now, they gave me the option of keeping it or sending it back so I decided that as I didn’t need or want two I’d just send it back. Sounds simple, right? Well they won’t send me a label, I have to wait for the UPS guy to show up tomorrow. That means I’m stuck here as we have one truck that services hundreds of miles of rural roads and when he gets here depends on where he starts and the number of stops he has. And there goes a day.
I love the way they cover their butts by recognizing their errors and putting the burden on you to make it right. Rather than notify you they charge you to make sure they get their pound of flesh regardless, don’t notify you, they make their mistake your problem.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Sometimes if you push them, they back off. I did that last week when I ordered a set of four casters and received three. They wanted me to send the three back (they did offer a label and UPS pickup), and would reship the four. I said that was silly; why not send me just one? I pushed and sort of got my way. I didn’t have to send the three back, and now have seven.

A few years back Czarina ordered a knife holder for me, it’s a freestanding wooden box loaded with hundreds of metal wires standing on edge, a bit large.
When it arrived it was in a much larger than expected box, half a footlocker sized. When we opened it there was whole case of them, six I believe. They were too big to keep and useless outside of storing kitchen knives so after a conversation with the company, where we had a bit of difficulty getting them to believe it, we finally got them returned.
It’s not a new problem, just irritating.

Seven! I once bought a knife holder for Czar, but they sent a case (4). So I called, and they apologized for the error. Since they had only charged for 1, and I only needed one, I offered to send three back. They seemed soooo grateful, like they were just a little company and the loss would be significant.

Walmart is terrific on customer relations. I’ve never had a single problem with them when the Customer Service contact is via their website and we do the typing back and forth bit. Each time they’ve told me the correct item would be sent immediately. They always say to keep the wrong order or return it to a local store. But the option to keep it is their first offer and so I take it since I don’t have private transportation to take a product back. I’m charged only for the item I ordered.
Last year it was my order of cheap paper towels. They sent me two packages of another brand that was of such top-of-the-line quality they’re practically like linen. The CS guy said to keep them. I’m still using them since there were 8 rolls in each package. LOL!

Listening to ex-Father Jonathan Morris right now on why he left the priesthood. Was hoping Menagerie had a thought on this.
My last Pastor (before I moved) was an ex-Priest who, rather than commit a sin with an affair in his parish, left the Catholic Church, married, and became a Lutheran minister. He was one of the better Pastors I’ve had, which admittedly have been few. But ex-Fr Morris said he did not leave to marry.
Are there many Priests leaving the Catholic Church? idk I’ve no memory of Priests leaving the Church like this, was curious.

Many priests left after Vatican II, nuns as well. They spend many, many years in formation. Priesthood is a calling, one the Lord invites a man into, but the choice is his. God give his priests, who take permanent vows, abundant graces to live their vocation.
Holly Orders is one of the seven Sacraments of the Church. When a man makes those vows, at the hands of a bishop descended from the apostles, his soul is marked, changed by the Holy Spirit.
I try to remember to pray for our priests every day. Their sacrifice is on of God’s greatest gifts to the world. It is a sad tragedy when one abandons that vocation and gift of the Spirit.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Col. Flynn:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

I got this email a while ago from Brian Kolfage at webuildthewall.us.
THIS IS AN URGENT CALL TO ACTION:
The Globalists at the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) just showed up at our wall to LOCK THE GATE OPEN. They even invited the media to join them as they make another attempt to keep the flow of illegal human and trafficking open that our wall has shut off.
Our legal team at WeBuildTheWall has done everything we can to work with the IBWC but this latest media stunt has gone too far. We aren’t going to let a bunch of UN globalists trample on the rights of the Americans our wall is protecting
I need you to call the IBWC’s office at (915)832-4100 and tell them to CLOSE THE DAMN GATE. Why are they doing the bidding of smugglers and human traffickers by keeping the gate open? You can ask for Jayne Harkins. If you can’t get through keep calling and leave messages. Be firm but respectful.
The IBWC is half owned by Mexico We just had an entity 50% owned managed by Mexico open our gate using American police as muscle. Mexico just opened all gates In El Paso sectors by way of IBWC. @harkjay350 needs to RESIGN NoW!
