President Trump arrives at Buckingham Palace for UK visit

As usual, take what they say with a huge pile of salt. Mute if it seems appropriate.

The ‘pile of salt’ comment is correct. The Brits are like a few other European countries, still trying to decide if it’s worth all of the trouble to be free individuals or just to take the lower/easier road and become serfs again.

The upper class Brits are hopelessly…British, a class and creature unto itself. They’re represented by the House of Lords which, without proof to the contrary, must have been created by Monty Python. It’s as if the tide went out when the power of the royal family was (mostly) broken and all of those slimy creatures too slow to go with the flow were left flopping in the shallows. It’s membership is hereditary or appointed, giving the hoity-toity a guaranteed representation.

The non-royalty have the elected House of Commons, a Benny Hill production. Anyone who thinks our House is a mess should watch the Commons in session, the ones who aren’t sleeping provide a show in and of itself. The Commons almost make you believe that the Brtits have adapted to democracy…or comedy performance art.

Czarina and I were watching a BBC 3-part series on how the US has reluctantly dragged Britain into an era and government of fear created by professional government fear mongers in order to deprive us of our freedoms. Thing is this is a 2003 production and what the BBC was talking about is the US’s new era of Islamophobia created after our 2 generation long era of manufactured Communism-o-phobia. As the BBC is a government-created, government tax supported yet ‘totally independent from government content controlled’ beast there’s no doubt that its slightly left-of-Left views reflect those of a certain portion of the Brit government. The series we were watching was heavily critical of Bush II and came close to blaming American policies, not radical Islam, for 911. Their love of the Left carries through to their dislike of Trump.

In the 20th Century we pulled their arses out of the fire twice…3 times if you consider the $$$ we pumped into them after the war to keep them afloat. We were their first colony, just about all from their blood, who kicked them out and resisted two more attempts by them to subjugate us and turn us back into their owned bitches. I do believe that all still stings the Brit upper class and added to the fact that the US, China, Japan and Germany have larger economies than Britain (and India’s poised to jump Britain too) we’re seeing a bit of not-so-stiff-upper-lipishnes.

Let Britain sit in the corner and stew, it’s really been waving that ‘Special Relationship’ around lately, let that petulance play out. Were it not for that Special Relationship and their having nukes they be lower down the list then they are now and probably just as ungrateful.

I think most of that is absolutely true. I am fascinated by and interested in the monarchy, like a lot of other Americans, but can’t really understand the homage paid to them by most of the citizens. I actually think that today’s monarchy pays an important role in diplomacy, and will continue to do so as long as they watch what they do and stay out of politics.

I don’t know what is going to happen to the Monarchy when Elizabeth is gone and Chuckie takes over. I think he is a mess.

I sort of believe the Royalty provides the Brits with a Linus safety blanket, it gives them a vision of that time long gone when England ruled the world.

Other European countries also hold on to their monarchies to some extent but then we have our celebrity worship so maybe we ain’t that far off of our ancestors.

When we used to visit my step grandmother in Canada as a kid, I noticed the picture of the Queen on the wall and wondered, “What’s up with that?”

My grandmother used to send the Queen a birthday and Christmas card every year from when she came here until she died. Every once in a while she even received one of those preprinted ‘thank you’ notes,

I’d mentioned I’d worked the 1988 RNC in New Orleans, I’d been put on leavr from active duty with the Army and my job was driving and providing security for Fred Malek.

I got to meet a number of pols, President Reagan included, and was seated under the podium in the Superdome when he gave his speech.

When I dropped Mr Malek off for the last time he asked me if there was anything he could do for me and in my stick-up-the-butt military bearing I said “Thanks, but no.”. You bet I lived to regret that.

If one may be so bold, please allow sharing the thoughts of Col Pat Lang on the review of the guards.
Will make you love the Pres more, if that is indeed possible.

“Please watch the video of the official reception at Buckingham Palace. The troops are from the Grenadier Guards Regiment of the Household Division. President Trump when escorted by the commander of troops to inspect the guard of honor asks the Grenadier officer if he may speak to the men. After a moment’s thought the commander responds in the affirmative and Trump chats his way down the lines speaking with astonished soldiers. Prince Charles finally joins in the conversation. Trump’s exchange at the end of the front rank with the Regimental Sergeant Major of the Grenadier Guards must have been a wonderful moment. The two companies of the Guards then passed in review behind “Here’s Health Unto Her Majesty ,” and “The British Grenadier,” (their regimental march.)”

“Pilgrims, I have been in a hell of a lot of parades, guard mounts and the like and IMO the president’s desire to talk to the men was altogether charming. pl”

Did you notice how TALL most of the guards are? The President isn’t a short man.

Yes, and also noticed the Queen smiling as Pres Trump conversed with the guards.
Even Charles condescended to speak with one. How can one not love this ordinary man who just wandered into the White House to take up residence as one of our greatest Presidents?

Watched all the other vids you posted this p.m. Awesome vids. As Pres Trump, those buildings just fascinate me, always have. Can you imagine the architectural thoughts running through the Pres’s mind?
