The two favorite basil dishes: a salad made with basil, fresh tomatoes, sliced onion and mozzarella, and pasta with pesto. I have three nice lettuce leaf basil plants growing already. Make a lot of pesto while the basil is available abundant, and freeze it for those icy winter nights when you need a touch of summer sun.

    Still lots of investigation/experiments to do, but it’s great to have science begin to confirm our observations over the years…one of my grandnephews worked tirelessly to have cannabis legalized for general population consumption in Canada…he had learning disabilities long before his own illegal use, due to his mother’s drug and alcohol use from a young age…sad.

      People believe, with a devotion that puts even religious fanatics to shame, that if we just legalize marijuana all our problems will be solved.

      And because they are fanatics, you can’t get these people to see any evidence they disagree with.

    My son and his family live just outside of Columbus, Ohio. I was very concerned when I heard about the tornado hitting Dayton, but they are all right. This weather needs to stop. 😦

      It’s Spring in the Plains. I used to live in Oklahoma and come Spring we watched the skies like we do here during hurricane season. It’s something somewhere wherever you live. Glad they’re OK.

        We get tornadoes here in Michigan, just not nearly as often. I checked on my cousin (with the sheep farm here in Michigan’s Thumb). They have had a LOT of rain, and much of his pasture land is under water. Said they got 3″ in one day, which is a lot of rain here in Michigan.

          I believe there’s no doubt we’re getting some sort of climate change but the question is: for how long and how bad? as we’ve had oscillations from the declared ‘normal’ in the historical past.

          What bothers me is that the genetic politicians who crave and claw for power ,like stable flies do manure, are using it as an excuse to grasp for complete power over the people of the world.

          Howzat for paranoia?

      It was not too bad where I am in Indiana but that storm blew by a little closer than I needed it to be.

        My heart sank this morning when I saw where the tornado hit. They are just outside of Columbus. I wasn’t sure how close that was. So, I texted my DIL. ❤

          My friend’s son in law crossed the finish line at the same time as the bomb exploded at the Boston Marathon. My friend and her husband were in their car listening to coverage of the marathon, news of the bombing came right after she said to her husband “I bet he is crossing the finish line right about now.”

          He is actually in some of the photos. Daughter and grandchildren were waiting to greet him.

          None of them were injured.

          Terrifying time.

    I read michellec’s posts about the Batfish without comprehension. Yesterday, I heard what it is: a 300′ long WWII submarine placed at a war memorial in (landlocked) Muskogee, OK, and why it is of interest. It was sitting on dry ground, but is currently floating on 15-18′ of flood water and (possibly?) could float down the Arkansas River, to damage a dam! Of course, officials reported they are “monitoring the situation…”

    Insalata, one of my favorites. When in DC a friend and I go to Georgetown where we get it at an Italian restaurant owned by (at least then) Iranians.

    BTW, bring that basil plant in during the winter, give it a home by a south window and buy a small grow light if you have to. You can also get a shelf and put a larger grow light over it and have fresh herbs all winter long, it’ll pay for itself over time but who can put a price on quality fresh herbs?

    *Note I said ‘quality’ so that leaves out the ‘you-know-who’ big box store.

    A shorter version of something I posted next door:

    A branch of German intelligence just published a large report on nations trying to advance their WMD capabilities, and it specifically mentions Iran.

    Those of us in the business for a long time know that during the Cold War and beyond Germany made lots of money dealing prohibited WMD equipment to a number of nations, especially the Moslem Mideast. To be fair Germany also sold military goods to Israel so that they could defend against the offensive weapons’ materials they sold the bad guys – sorta like Nazism-lite, the newer, gentler and kinder 4th Reich. Germany also excels in selling deep military bunker and tunnel technology to bad guys around the world but also appears to be selling the technology on how to destroy them to the good guys.

    Well Merkel is being rather cool to Trump and is really mouthy about his pulling out of Obama’s Iran Deal and sticking sanctions not only on Iran but anyone who violates our sanctions. As Germany has traditionally been one of the major trading partners with Iran this rankles the German bottom line. Germany wants trade even at the expense of Mideast peace…though a new Holocaust just might open up even more trade venues, especially in body bags and ovens. But I digress.

    Seems the Bavarian customs police stopped a banned welding system from being shipped from an unnamed country (hint: rhymes with Fermany) to Iran through cutout countries. The machine is used, among other things, for precision assembly of missile bodies. Merkel has already conspired with other European pols to establish a commission to circumvent Trump’s sanctions both on Iran and those who trade with Iran, she’s more interested in Germany’s fiscal dominance in Europe than Europe’s safety. She’s looking to allow Germany (and some of those other pesky EU countries who owe her fealty) to provide Iran with the tools to destroy Israel. You can take the German government out of the 3rd Reich but it seems you can’t take the 3rd Reich out of German government.

      I don’t want to talk about this too much, because my unfounded opinion based on reading books may be just that. But I do want to say that some of the WWII books I read noted that the German state of Bavaria was none too happy with Berlin and was more of a, well, one writer noted that Bavaria had to go to war because Hitler had stuck their necks out too far, but they were none too happy about it.

        Bavaria was a separate City State and had territory well up into the Rhineland. Joining into the German state seemed never to be a popular Bavarian item and even today most Germans look at Bavaria as the ‘Arkansas’ of Germany.

        This mess is getting stomped on by the German, European and US media, there’s a helluvalot more here than anyone wants to dig up.

        I have the feeling that since Russia stopped providing their Mideast client states with chem/bio assistance that certain European firms have stepped in and the governments turn a blind eye.

        Let’s also not forget that those European countries Germany took over in WWII were largely responsible for the roundup and transportation of their national Jews to German concentration camps, the Germans couldn’t have done it alone. Germany had to divert troops to deal with the Hungarian Jews and that hurt combat operations, had they have had to round up the western European Jews alone it would have crippled military operations. Some of that anti-Semitic sentiment remains regardless of how hard they deny it.
