            I think spring is finally here. Nice evening. A little cloudy, but warm and dry. My tomato plants look great! Most of them are outside now, but still in pots. Some will go in the ground this weekend. Others will go in grow bags and big pots.

        Morning news had a piece on a 72-year-old Air Force vet who’s walking across the country to raise awareness of veteran’s issues. With 22 vets a day suiciding a day, some now right at a VA facility, with no attention being paid (so what else is new?). I’m not sure what his walk will do but I’m envious of someone at our age who can.

            He is an AF vet, after all, not like they wasted a lotta time doing military stuff. I can say that if I’d have stayed AF instead of transferring over to the Army I’d have fewer broken up places today. Then again, I’d have missed a lot of fun.

    Just saw these online at Amazon…yeah, everyone to his own taste…but they’d make me laugh if I saw a guy wearing them at the beach…

    ‘Caine Mutiny,’ ‘Winds of War’ author Herman Wouk has died

    Herman Wouk, the versatile, Pulitzer Prize winning author of such million-selling novels as “The Caine Mutiny” and “The Winds of War” whose steady Jewish faith inspired his stories of religious values and secular success, died on Friday at 103.

    Wouk was just 10 days shy of his 104th birthday and was working on a book until the end, said his literary agent Amy Rennert.

    Rennert said Wouk died in his sleep at his home in Palm Springs, California, where he settled after spending many years in Washington, D.C.

    Among the last of the major writers to emerge after World War II and first to bring Jewish stories to a general audience, he had a long, unpredictable career that included gag writing for radio star Fred Allen, historical fiction and a musical co-written with Jimmy Buffett. He won the Pulitzer in 1952 for “The Caine Mutiny,” the classic Navy drama that made the unstable Captain Queeg, with the metal balls he rolls in his hand and his talk of stolen strawberries, a symbol of authority gone mad. A film adaptation, starring Humphrey Bogart, came out in 1954 and Wouk turned the courtroom scene into the play “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial.”…

    I’m making Pork Marbella tomorrow. I made the marinade tonight and put the pork tenderloins in to marinate. I have never made this dish, but I’ll let you know how it turns out. It’s a sweet and sour concoction, originally made with chicken, and features prunes, green olives and capers (and the meat, of course). Kind of old fashioned, but sounds yummy.
