Hey y’all, remember the B-70 Valkyrie? It was supposed to be a supersonic strategic bomber that would outrun the Russian’s interceptor aircraft. The Russians would pick the incoming aircraft ujp on radar, launch their fighters and the ground radar crew would try to position them for an intercept. The B-70 was so fast that by the time the Russian radar picked it up and alerted the ground pilots the plane would be too far gone for the interceptors to catch it.

In response the Rooskies developed the MIG-25 and TU-28. They were also supposed to intercept the SR-71 but never did. Funny thing is that while the Russians were desperately throwing limited resources into building a plane to counter the B-70…we cancelled it before it ever entered service. They had two planes that really didn’t have a mission as the B-70 was kaput and they was too slow to even come near the R-71.

The beauty of Reagan was he realized that the CIA’s reports showing that the Russian economy was a sham and the DoD’s reports that most of the Russian military work was reactionary were the ideal way to bankrupt the USSR. Our huge military build-up and especially the Star Wars project, forced the Russians to heave tons of resources they didn’t have into trying to counter our build-up, especially that hinky Star Wars red herring. His plan ran the USSR right into its inevitable ‘Going Out of Business’ sale years earlier than predicted.

That’s very interesting. I had never heard that before. So, the Star Wars red herring wasn’t a mistake. Hmm.

Only to the Democrsts. Star Wars was a win-win-WIN!
No one knew if the technology would work but there was no way to tell unless we tried and the attempt was too expensive for civilian experimentation on a large scale and too big for one or two companies. Only the government could fund it and coordinate across the various industries and universities.

The whole program was very open, the Reds saw daily the work and brainpower we poured into it and how it was moving missile defense along. As their Death to America program was basically defensive they had no choice but to pour their limited resources into huge R&D efforts to build a retaliatory response we couldn’t counter. I don’t believe, looking at their programs and systems, they really were planning a surprise offensive attack, they were sure we were, think how they were hit in WW I and WW II.

Star Wars hugely advanced a lot of different tech areas. Computers, lasers, directed energy systems, radars all surged forward and increased the quality of civilian lives too. We now have diode lasers instead of pumped crystals, think about having a portable CD player run by a ruby rod pumped laser. Many medical devices were direct and indirect benefits, the entire list that evolved from that research, just as with the space program, is looooong.

The expense of trying to keep up with the US was just too much for the Soviets, their currency was valueless outside the Bloc, and they had to divert resources away from other areas trying to play catch up. Their economy was teetering for decades but until RR took active steps to indirectly target it it wouldn’t fall. We advanced technology, gave rise to hundreds of new systems for devices we use every day and fell the USSR, that also gave Clinton the ability to expand the economy in the 90s because we were no longer needing to push a good chunk of our economy into defending against Russia. RR gets scant little credit for that thanks to the progs in the media and academia. Not bad for a Hollywood cowboy.

Thanks for this info. I had never heard it explained this way. I did have a little trouble picturing “think about having a portable CD player run by a ruby rod pumped laser” since I have no idea what a ruby rod pumped laser would look like.

I do, however, remember in 8th grade, there was an article that came out about a new invention, the laser. The thing was huge. I stupidly raised by hand and asked the teacher if this would someday become the lasers of the scifi movies. She, of course, told me that was a stupid question, obviously the laser machine was so enormous. πŸ™„ I am sure she is dead now, but I sure would like to visit her and use one of those pen lasers in her presence.

Your CD/DVD readers use a tiny laser made from a diode, that goes a long way to making them a manageable size. Back in the old days lasers were made from artificially grown crystals or tubes full of gas like carbon dioxide, different crystals or gasses giving different outputs. When I was playing with them many years ago I had a ruby crystal rod that had a high output neon-like light tube wrapped around it. To make a rod run a ‘portable’ CD player you’d be dragging it around on a wagon, feeding it with lead-based 12-volt batteries. Oh yeah, did I mention the areas of energy storage and photoelectric cells that Star Wars influenced?

Had a Democrat…2 minutes reserved for laughter….accomplished this he’d have had statues honoring him all over the East and Left Coast but it was RR and…progressive crickets chirping. And RR did this while while welfare costs skyrocketed as that was the price demanded by Democrats for their support in Star Wars and cruise missile deployment.

Lots to be said for proof of force. A comment on FB by my friend Alex. It is in response to a comment on a photo that said ‘I just have always loved pictures of Jews with guns …’:

I remained a moderate leftist for a long time after I left Israel in 1975 but it was moderate and the move to moderate conservatism wasn’t difficult.

And among other factors I remember something from 1974. I was living on a kibbutz and there were problems negotiating the separation of forces agreement with Syria on the Golan and some talk that fighting might be resumed.

I felt reasonably safe and I realized that I did not because of the enlightened force of world progressive opinion but because there was an armored division on the Golan and a well-equipped and well-trained air force right across the valley. For Israel and Jews generally, the enlightened force of world progressive opinion is less than useless–I say “less than useless” because it presents problems if people are foolish enough to believe in it.

Paramedic on abandoned newborn baby found in alley: ‘Death wanted him. But this day, God said no.’

    https://www.chicagotribune.com/columns/john-kass/ct-met-abandoned-baby-kass-20190508-story.html

…But not the other day in at Norwegian American Hospital, in the ER, with a baby found abandoned in an alley on top of a garbage can, clinging to life, and a crowd around the baby, begging that little boy to keep fighting and live.

β€œI was in the middle of it and I didn’t have a camera, so I’ll describe it for you,” Dr. Nida Blankas-Hernaez told me in an interview Wednesday.

It was Blankas-Hernaez who led the resuscitation unit that helped push life back into that boy.

She had multiple teams of professionals around from Norwegian American: the neonatal group, respiratory therapy, anesthesiology, emergency room docs, labor and delivery nurses, pharmacy. Everyone who had to be there was there. But there was an outer ring around the child too.

How a newborn baby found in an alley beat the odds: ‘All the people in the ER were saying, ‘Come on kid, come on little boy’ ‘ Β»

Chicago Fire Department paramedics and firefighters, from Engine 76 and Truck 35 and Ambulance 3, and Chicago police detectives and officers. They formed a second ring around the infant. Tough men and women. Yelling β€œFight, kid! Fight!” and offering advice and biting their lips and bargaining with God.

β€œThe baby was such a fighter. And these are tough people, too, they are fighters,” Blankas-Hernaez said. β€œAnd I told them, as soon as the baby moved, open-eyed, turning pink, I asked them, β€˜Come and see, you did a good job guys.’ And they have tears you know. Tears.”

I am so pleased he survived.

What isn’t mentioned is that the poor baby was abandoned within a block of a no questions asked firehouse.

We have a family at our church who adopted a “firehouse” baby. He is beautiful and they are all so wonderfully blessed.

Oh, I pray that this dear baby boy has a wonderful life with a family who will rear him with all the love, attention, and nurturing he deserves. Under no circumstances am I giving this woman a pass for the attempted murder of her boy. Often, however, when a woman is brought up without compassion, not taught the tremendous value of life, not encouraged to be a caring, giving person, she will do as his mother did, not thinking of alternatives or consequences.

The other day another American young woman, 17 years old, went to the hospital at her mother’s insistence because she was bleeding so profusely. The ER doctor said she’d had a miscarriage. The real truth was she had birthed a full-term baby, stabbed the precious life out of her child and placed the body in a neighbor’s shed…then went back home to bed where her mother later discovered her condition. She’s in jail now and awaiting trial for murder after the neighbor’s son discovered the little body…something I’m sure he will never forget.

Psychopathic behavior seems on the rise. I don’t know what the stats are or whether horrific things are simply reported more now, but it looks like severe mental illness is more prevalent than I’ve ever known it.

Psychopaths are born, not created like narcissists are…and unless the personality disorder is discovered when the afflicted is quite young and proper training to curb the impulses is instituted (and there’s no guarantee the curbing will take hold), they will lead lives of chaos and crime. Mighty sobering!

Child rearing is the most important aspect of any society and so many today think lousy parenting will result in no great disability for a child.

Jeff is starting to be seen in public again apparently. He was also at Rod Rosenstein’s going away party last week, singing Rod’s praises. Fully granting they all obviously know more than I do about what’s been happening and maybe I’m completely wrong about Sessions and Rosenstein. However, there’s a whole lot of ‘splaining needed on a whole lotta aspects of the attempted coup. And they’d better get at letting us know the truth pronto.
