    I’m wondering if the not-too-frequent ‘comment could not be posted’ notices I get are due to the Akismet software WP uses to ‘reduce spam?

    I look at the Askmet site and I see that even though they say they don’t collect personal data they’…(check) all of your comments against our constantly-growing global spam database to remove irrelevant, malicious content before it gets published and damages your site’s credibility.” Interesting…

    Happy Sunday all. I just went out the door and wow, the scent of the fresh clean spring air is overwhelming. Light rain fell during the night, the woods are filled with singing birds, the fat squirrel is eating dog food again, the dogwoods are blooming all through my woods, and the air just must be magical, it is so filled with good, fresh scents.

          I don’t know if this is true, but I read somewhere that all those desert places they told us to move to if we have asthma or sinus problems had so many southerners who moved there, planted lawns, trees, etc, that most of them are no longer havens for the allergic.

          It would serve us right though. Every southern suburb dweller is in competition with his neighbor and the gold course for the greenest, lushest grass.

          I understand gardening. Flowers, vegetables, etc. I do not understand the love for grass. except that it kinda feels good to walk barefoot in fresh mown grass. Which it ain’t safe to do around here because of snakes, critters and crawlers and biters.

            I jest as I’ve become so used to green that I’ll have my sinuses turn themselves inside out before I’ll go back to desert. I remember Utah where spring and green were about two weeks in late April/early May and the standard color was a tan-ish. Iwent thru a drought in Utah and that was a big part in my moving to the South again (OK, so was Czarina but this is about weather). We went thru a year-long drought in NOLA too and that was no comparison – we never ran out of water.

              I can’t imagine a drought out there. We had one here a couple of years ago. Fires everywhere, smoke hanging in clouds, never going away, wells drying up. It was awful. So I imagine it is exponentially worse out west.

                In NOLA they just lowered the water intake pipe (city’s drinking water’s pulled from the Mississippi) but the coolest part was the Mississippi was so low that a saltwater wedge moved ~100 miles upriver as there water flow downriver wasn’t strong enough to keep it at bay. Area just south of the river where we lived had an ocean smell until the flow increased. That was the drought here.

                In Utah it was madness. No lawn watering, no car washing, swimming pools were closed and the amounts of water a home could use was limited with new limits regularly imposed. That was before the huge carpetbagger influx, heaven help them if that happens again as the population there’s more than doubled. No more living in a high plains desert for me.

    I guess I will never understand always being offended.

    Saw a meme going around FB that I thought was funny. A picture of a guy shirtless with shorts down past his knees, mullet and long goatee holding a catfish as long as him. Fake message asking, “what is that?” Reply, “I remember the first time I saw one, freaked me out, they’re called Okies and the whole state of Oklahoma is full of them.”

    People though can’t just laugh and instead are so offended because not all Oklahomans look like that or go noodling and we should quit being stereotyped and made fun of.

    As my granny used to say, “pull the stick out of your butt.” Her way of saying lighten up and quit being so serious all the time and see the humor in life.

      There’s long been a campaign of the Northern/Left Coast (Hollyork) elite trying to make folks in the South and ‘flyover’ country look like bumpkins not worthy of the time it would take to elevate us to their level of sociocultural evolution.

      They’re frequently amazed that, when they venture off the interstate into the wilds of Mississippi, that we have electricity, running water and we don’ be awhompin’ them slaves in the public square under the Confederate flag and right next to the statue of Robert E. Lee.

        I find the humor in it and we do have some Okies that look just like the guy that was pictured. lol

        I play along with folks who end up out here and look like they’re about to pee their pants. Amazing how many people are more scared of chickens than they are my dogs that are only allowing them out of their vehicle because I tell them it’s okay.
        So when they mention they drove so far and need to use the bathroom with that look, “like where do these folks use the bathroom” I tell them if they’re male, the men around here go behind a tree unless it’s the other then we have an outhouse outback over a hole in the ground.

          I’ve posted this before and never tire of it. We have a farm down the road that has a HUGE black angus bull, he’s gotta weigh better than a ton. Damn fool city folks are always stopping and calling to it to come over to the fence or, when it is by the fence, trying to pet it. I’m not about to get out and warn ’em, I figure that I can’t run fast enough if that bull gets really pissed and word of their getting stomped into a puddle of red jelly just might help a few others realize that a farm/ranch is not a petting zoo,

            Several years back we had a couple of heifers penned in a small area, they were getting fed out. You could up to the pen from the county road crossing over the ditch. One of these heifers was mean and the other was plain evil. I’m walking out with a bucket of feed one evening and see this idiot holding his year or so old baby over the pen calling them over saying she wanted to ride them.

            I got out there and told him to get the baby out of the pen and then asked him if he was trying to kill his baby or just stupid.
            He said he just wanted to let her see them and put her on their back. I told him these aren’t pet cows and you’re damn lucky they knew I was coming with the feed bucket and not paying any attention to you or your baby could have been killed.
            You never assume a beef cow is friendly and always assume you best not turn your back on them and you sure as hell don’t think they will allow anyone on their back.

    Pope’s decided that he’s not gonna wear that Trump 2020, and especially that MAGA, mitre again. The US, Capitalism and Trump by extension be re-sponsible for the whole mess. We’re too successful and if there’s one thing this Pope dislikes it’s successful people – those Lastin/South American ethos apples don’t fall far from the ferula. Of course hig digs, dress and eats are something he has to bear as a cross of his station, were it up to him he’d be living in a cave, he’d be wearing sackcloth and following the John the Baptist diet…but he has to suffer the system or no one would take him seriously.

    I’m waiting for his order that until the Capitalist depredations visited on the poor, downtrodden and nonproductive are addressed and the consumers are brought to parity with the producers each church will be required to to have at least one stature of Che on a cross to remind you whose sins of excess consumption el Che died for.
