In Bulgaria, Baba Marta Day, meaning “Grandma March Day,” celebrates the return of spring on March 1st. According to folklore, “Grandma March” was a snappish old lady who was always grimacing towards her two brothers; but when she did smile, the sun came out.
While there are different versions of the tale, nowadays most Bulgarians wear a small martenitsa adornment, made of white and red yarn, to symbolize their wish for good health and the coming of spring. Bulgarians wear the martenitsa until around the end of the month, when the first signs of spring arrive. Many people then tie their martenitsas to fruit trees for good luck.

Wow at the bicycle load of flowers! Good morning everyone.
I have a brother in law who sells all kinds of very, very expensive bicycles. He rides them a lot, long trips, once even from Cincinnati to Chattanooga. Just a few years ago I watched him ride his bike up a hill that is so steep the city never re-paves it, a tremendous steep grade. We all stood cheering him on, and he made it very capably. He is within a year or two of 60. Wish I was that fit!

The photo is from Vietnam. When I saw it I thought, you do what you have to do; and if that means learning to balance a huge load on a bicycle and not constantly fall on your face, then that’s what you do. That’s admirable, too.

Good morning, lovely! When I worked in Santa Monica, CA, every Wednesday was farmer’s market day where the city would block off a couple of streets so patrons could walk around leisurely. Loved it!

We used to do the same here with closing down the streets, now it has ben moved to another location and no streets are closed down. I liked it better on the street as it was also along the Fox River.

Hey, litenmaus! One of the fun parts of my job was to arrange my boss’s flowers each Monday morning when they were delivered. Often the previous week’s bouquet would still be in good condition. So I’d salvage them and make smaller bouquets to give to the office staff.

And I’d also take the dead/dying flowers and branch bouquet fillers and dry them to make dried flower arrangements.
When a couple of executives were moved to another city, there were empty offices on either side of an assistant alcove near my office. So I sat a dried flower arrangement on the credenza behind the assistant desks (adding to it on occasion). I also made sure the executive office doors were closed every day plus set up the assistant desk tops to look occupied so that guests wouldn’t be confronted by unattractive areas as they passed by on their way to my boss’s office.
It’s fun to have a certain leeway working for the chairman and owner. LOL!
