Went out to a local grocery store today and they had a special: a package of two ten-pound primal pork roasts for $1.00 a pound. I snagged a 20-pounder in a heartbeat, brought it home and cut it into 4 5-pounders for later use though I held one out for smoking.

The cool thing about this is that our gray cat, the middle aged cat who still looks like a kitten, and the 22-pound fat cat jumped up on the island, eyes the size of saucers. Generally they don’t like raw dead meat but as I was trimming I sliced off a little piece for both – they hit that like a Mack truck. Intrigued I sliced off two grape-size chunks, one for each. They both jumped on that and went into full feral mode, humming with slanty eyes and full protective body posture as they scarfed it down.

It was about then I relocated the roast I was working on to another counter for safety. I haven’t seen them with that body posture and expression eating fresh mouse tartare, it was almost as if they’d reverted to some previous life as tigers, hunting long pig. I’m worried about how, after their ‘other white meat’ experience, they’re going to react to their canned breakfast.
