Confirms that they know nothing and are simply plugged into their leftist masters indoctrination machines which put big Xs over the lives and faces of anyone on the right.

Wayne was the kind of man who stood on set with his arms around his friends’ shoulders and kept his pals for a lifetime; professionally he had the respect of his peers. He was generous and a man who loved to joke and laugh and have a drink (sometimes more than he should) and share good times on his yacht. His usual manner was reputed to be courtly toward women. He adored his children and they adored him.

He had friends both on the left and the right. Robert Vaughn said he had a huge library and only the “best of conservative writers on his shelves.” Lauren Bacall had a wonderful time working with him on THE SHOOTIST (and if you haven’t seen that film, you must…it was his last).

He also was downright beautiful as a young man…

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51g-RIGhQmL._SX466_.jpg He didn’t complain endlessly when he was diagnosed with his second bout of cancer but took his illness with dignity and delighted in those who cared for him at the end.

I have a friend who knew Wayne well and felt privileged to love him. The day he died was my birthday and when I heard her voice saying “hello” on the phone I thought she was calling me to wish me a happy day. All she said was, “Duke died.” And we cried together.

So phooey to the naysayers. His was a life well-lived.

I cut up and crisped three strips of thick bacon that I had left in the frig, then I took the bacon out of the pan. Cooked 1/2 large onion and a couple of ribs of celery, diced, in the bacon fat on low heat, then added 1/4 cup of flour to make a roux.

Added 2 cups of water, 2-3/4 cups whole milk, 1/4 cup of cream and a spoon of chicken “better than bouillon”, then about 5 medium potatoes that were peeled and cubed. Heat and cook until potatoes are tender. Used crisp bacon on top in the serving bowl. Chives would be good, or green onion, but I didn’t add any.

You might want to cook the potatoes in the water, then add the milk, but mine worked out okay.

Nothing like home made, especially potato soup. However my husband’s aunt, gone now but for decades one of the best cooks who ever lived, introduced us the Bear Creek packaged soups. When you have no ingredients except water, their soups are a pretty good second.

            • Sorry! Just saw this. DD and I are thinking about making it this weekend. There’s no bullion or anything like that available that she can use, so we are trying to figure out a workaround. We will switch the wheat flour for potato flour. I think it will still be good, just not as flavorful.

The flour is just a thickener, so you could use potato flour, or corn starch. Instead of water and bouillon, use chicken or veggie broth. You could probably do without it altogether, but add a bit of butter when you saute the onions/celery and make the roux. If you ever see the “Better Than Bouillon” in the store, it is a great product, as it keeps well in the frig and is available to add to water or any other liquid. Much better than bouillon cubes!

Oh yeah, NOTHING compares to homemade soup. I made cream of leek and potato last week, we ate that for three days with dark bread. One day plain, one day with homemade bacon and one day with fresh shrimp. Red beans and rice with smoked neck bones and sausage tonite.

Unless you’ve been to NOLA and been on St Charles during Mardi Gras you probably don’t know about the Montgomery-Grace mansion, locally more well known as the Rex house. It was a fixture during the Rex parade, Rex ran along St Charles and would stop at the house to exchange a mutual salute/toast as the house was home to a former Rex and two kings of Comus.

The most salient part of the house was that during its almost 140 year life it was home to people with, and knew money and how to use it. It was a museum with people living in it, it was a prime example of late 19th century American-European opulence. The furniture, paintings, woodwork and appointments were classic – no pressed wood or plastic touches, all handcrafted wood.

No more though, it caught fire at about 7:30 this morning and is still burning, it’s a 7 alarm fire. The city has lost a major historical building and a priceless collection of art and Mardi Gras memorabilia. St Charles has lost one of its main mansions and attractions too. So sad…

I want to share this good news here. It was posted on the next door on the Pres. Thread by Nick the Deporable.

    The US revoked her citizenship.
“She is not a U.S. citizen anymore.
Ms. Hoda Muthana is not a U.S. citizen and will not be admitted into the United States,” Pompeo said in a statement. “She does not have any legal basis, no valid U.S. passport, no right to a passport, nor any visa to travel to the United States. We continue to strongly advise all U.S. citizens not to travel to Syria.”

I have to confess, I’m not doing very well since my little Foxy died. I have always handled deaths well, but this has hit me really hard. It has been over a month and a half and I am still struggling with it. In the last 12 years, I have lost my brother, my mother, my father, my best friend, and my sister. But, I guess I always had things to do and people to take care of………….until now. I’m not ready to take on a new pet. Last year, between dental work, glasses, car repairs, and vet bills, it just isn’t financially feasible and I don’t think I am ready emotionally anyway. I think I am okay, and then I come home and she isn’t here and I fall apart. I am not good at asking for help, but I could use some prayers for comfort.

My heart goes out to you, aus. Your little Foxy knew she was loved and gave it in return. That she’s remembered with love and sorrow at her passing is a tribute to her great spirit and presence.

After my little dog that I had for 17 years had to be put to sleep, it took me a very long time to get over his death. He’d been devoted to my own best human love and that made me love them both all the more.

      God bless you!

I’ve had a lot of dogs over the years, most I was really attached to. Now that I think about it, Foxy was probably the one who needed me most. That may be part of the problem.

Oh Aus. I am so sorry.

I think about that day when I will come home to an empty house or go to bed without my little buddies and it makes me very sad to think about it. I don’t know your pain but I really feel for you.

I will pray for God’s healing peace.

You missing her so much shows us us what we already knew that Foxy was a loved, blessed, happy and lucky dog.

I do know things will get better, the pain less acute, that emptiness will be filled, how is between you and God. I hope for an answer to come your way soon.

I’m also sorry that finances are tight, that makes everything harder. Playing catch up is never fun but you will find your footing, you are resilient you have shown us that 🙂 .

My old Daisy’s getting old. I went out to check on some things related to the rain and when I looked up towards the orchard area there were four big, beautiful does feeding under the trees about 100 feet away. Daisy just looked up and ambled away, too wet of a day to mess with deer I guess.

The lookout doe saw us, she was standing there fixed on us, nervously but slowly stamping alternate front feet but when she saw neither of us had her on our menu she went back to grazing on the fresh greens too. They were quite happy with giving us an occasional glance but my starting up the sump pump was just a bit too much. Another day…

BTW, I know it’s not kind to say, but that woman always reminds me of an obese beady eyed rat.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
