A couple of us were talking about our favorite Bible verses yesterday on the General Discussion thread, because one of the pictures I used was a meme derived from the Love Chapter, I Corinthians 13. It went like this:
I like the sign Stella. It is a favorite passage for me, as it is for so many.

I think a lot of people confine most of their scripture reading to the Gospels. Reading St. Paul is a must in my opinion. You miss out on so much if you don’t. Sooner or later he gets to almost everything, and often in beauty, such as above.
I memorized those two, Psalm 23 (of course), Psalm 100, and Luke 2, verses 8-14 (for a Christmas pageant, but it brings tears to my eyes even now).
Oops, how could I forget the 23rd Psalm? Eventually I knew the nativity story by heart, but only because I had heard it so much, not because I memorized it. I did, when I was maybe third grad or so, memorize all the books of the Bible. It was a huge motivation to get whatever prize it was they offered, but more so to get the recognition.
I thought about others that I like, and I thought of this one, which was a favorite of my mother, Psalm 121 (KJV):
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
Then there is this one that often comes to my mind Psalm 27:1:
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
With the subject of abortion so much in today’s news, this one is often in my mind, Jeremiah 1: 4-5 (KJV):
4 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Another testimony of God-given life, found in Psalms 139 (KJV):
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
“Be still and know that I am God” has sustained me at times.
