As I posted next door, the NOLA city government is crowing over the PD arresting 45 of the city’s most violent wanted criminals. No word on why they took so much time in doing so, why they couldn’t have arrested them piecemeal rather than staging a huge perp walk.
They were marched in front of commissioners and magistrate judges who then set bail for many of them, some as low as $1000. You have to admit that $1000 is low for a violent offender you rate as ‘some of the city’s most violent’.
No word on if the liberal bail group that’s been formed to bail out poor black offenders who’ve received an ‘unreasonable’ bail amount (i.e., they can’t pay it) will be bailing out some of the 45 who can’t afford it. So far this group has an impressive record of bailing out perps with multiple violent crime arrests for whom judges have set bails high enough to keep them off of the street.

So the police department is basically saying… Look at us, look at us, aren’t we’re awesome? But the reality is that they left those super “violent” criminals on the street to cause mayhem until the decided to grab them en masse for a publicity stunt? That’s messed up.

Not so much the PD, I believe it’s a PR stunt by the new mayor and her new hand-picked chief-of-police.

Just now finished watching a piece on Robert Hanssen, the FBI agent who spied on the US for the Russians from 1979 to 2001 and was considered THE most damaging traitor in US history.
He was caught when an ex-KGB agent sold him out and you can imagine the Bureau’s embarrassment when they learned his identity. The Bureau knew it had a KGB mole in its service so it assigned the task to agents to locate him and one of the assigned agents was Hanssen himself.

I been missing some exciting stuff around here lately. I am glad you’re okay, Wooly! If you’re reading this!
Glad everyone’s okay! Was not able to get to work today. Car wouldn’t start this morning. Aah! I hate taking days off in the middle of the week. I hate taking unplanned days off, period. But I tried more times than I should have to get the car to start. Blah. Were’s global warming now? When’s the climate gonna change, back to something that’s not -40 below? (I don’t mind cold unless it actively interferes in my life. Heat, I mind heat. I can’t stand it. And Indiana has humidity in the summer, which makes it worse.)
Stay safe and warm everyone!

My car started bit it barley did. Second try and I was thanking God ! What a day. Way way too cold. I had half a tank of gas yesterday and wanted to fill my tank because of the bitter cold. I went to the gas station and my little gas door was frozen shut 😦 ! Thankfully it opened today 🙂 . The gas station was the busiest I have ever seen it.

I remember back in the day running a weatherproof extension cord out to the car with a light bulb placed on the engine block. It helped.

I might have to try that. I tried to park it out of the wind, but that evidently didn’t help much. Ambient air was too cold, I guess.

Thanks for the link. I am looking at it now.
No block heater, and no idea how to get one at this point. I do have a lightbulb on an extension cord. It’s one of those work lights that you can plug into a wall and then take a light with you under the car while you’re working on it. Did you use something like that? And did the wind affect the light at all (I’m thinking bulb freezing, exploding, etc)

Yes, that is what I am talking about and no, the bulb didn’t explode or freeze. I don’t know if it will work for you, but it can’t hurt.

We stayed at my Aunts near Chicago when I was a teen. My memory says it was -60 with a -100 wind chill factor. Even so they still made my dog sleep in the garage. They had a passive solar home (with regular heating system backup, I think) & we were nice & warm inside. The dog’s water dish froze in the garage, even with a woodstove going near her bed & dishes.

This was late ’70’s or early ’80’s…no later than ’85 I think. We were in a station wagon covered with a huge pine tree (think Christmas Vacation) to put up in their 2 storey living room.

OK, just looked him up to discover I’d misspelled his first name, s/b Erich. And the new novel likely was: (1936) Drei Kameraden; English translation: THREE COMRADES (1937).
Remarque had the privilege and honor of having his books burned by the Nazis.
It was also made into a film. See: Three Comrades (Original Theatrical Trailer)
And the trailer mentions that the book was serialized in GOOD HOUSEKEEPING…love it!

An analysis by the Media Research Center found that New York’s Reproductive Health Act has not received a second of airtime on any of the major broadcast (ABC, CBS, NBC) or liberal cable news networks (CNN, MSNBC) since it was signed into law on January 22. The new legislation legalizes abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy in some cases, and it permits healthcare workers other than abortion doctors to terminate pregnancies.

For the same reason that they wouldn’t talk about the Gosnell movie, if I had to guess.
I wonder how many people who support abortion would balk if they knew that this new law pretty much gives the mother the right to commit murder right up until the moment that the baby’s head is out of the birth canal.

HI there 🙂
Check out this idea for education. It sounds interesting, but don’t know how to stop educrats from killing it, other than getting HUUUGE grassroots support to change laws.
Except from “Educaid” article:
… Poor people demonstrate that they can’t afford to pay for X. We let them choose a private provider of X, who meets basic standards, and we give them money that can be spent only on X. If X is medical care, we call that Medicaid. If it’s heating oil, we call it LIHEAP (the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program). If it’s food, we call it SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or Food Stamps, or EBT cards). If it’s housing, we call it Section 8 (the Housing Choice Voucher Program). And so on. [TOGC: I’m not saying there are no problems with these programs, there obviously are, but it’s the model the author is talking about.]
This is so well-established that we might call it the ‘standard model’ for helping the poor.
But if X is education, we abandon this model in favor of a government monopoly in which providing a service is equated with producing that service. It’s like saying, well, some people can’t afford food, so the government had better start farming.
But what the standard model calls for is an Educaid program. We could license teachers — the people who are actually providing the service — in much the same way that we license doctors, and let parents find the best teachers for their children, in much the same way that they find the best doctors for their families. And when they can’t afford what they need, we would help them pay for it.
For parents, Educaid would mean having to actively participate in educating their children, instead of just shipping them off to the nearest government-run school. But they would gain a wide range of educational opportunities to choose from — not just private schools, but also the kinds of products and innovations whose creation is spurred by competition, and stifled by monopoly.
For some teachers, Educaid might mean giving up tenured jobs, pensions, summers off, automatic pay raises, and other perks. But they would gain the chance to be recognized as, and truly act as, professionals. … Doctors do this. Lawyers do it. Why not teachers?
For bureaucrats and administrators — there isn’t really a trade-off. They would just have to go out and find other jobs. It’s all downside for them.
But for taxpayers, Educaid would be all upside. Competition brings costs down while it drives quality up — the opposite of what happens with state monopolies. Another is that providing aid only to those who demonstrate a need for it would relieve people of the perverse burden of subsidizing other people who are better off than they are. [*1]
A less obvious benefit is that since Educaid could be used only to educate students, it provides an opportunity to untangle education from day care. It’s one thing for your taxes to be used so that kids don’t miss out on education, but it’s quite another for you to be paying for other people to park their kids while they go out and increase their incomes. It’s one thing to use taxes to avoid a society filled with people who are illiterate, innumerate, or irrational, but it’s quite another to require people to subsidize sports, hobbies, college-level courses, job-specific training, social services, therapy, medical care, meals, transportation, and whatever else can be stuffed under the umbrella term ‘school’.

[*1] There was a woman who wrote she lives in a town that just voted for a new high school – probably between $100 million- $200 million that’s what’s being spent for them here. She said she came from NYC, hates it here in the country, only came here so her kid could be safe & get a good education. She will move back to NYC once the kid graduates. She said she votes for EVERYTHING for the schools because she is only there for a relatively few years, and she won’t be stuck paying for it for 30 years like the people who stay and live in the town. This is actually a BIG problem up here believe it or not.

Dangerously cold temperatures struck Chicago, forcing rail workers to light portions of the train tracks on fire in order to prevent damage. Sub-zero temperatures are expected to linger in the region, which can cause the metal on the tracks to shrink, resulting in the rails pulling away from each other.

A better visual.
At least it is too cold for the thugs to get off their couches and try to put the flames out.

On the plus side at least we know the Chicago River’s not too polluted to freeze.

They reversed the flow of the river so that the water comes into the river from the lake. There is a lock at the entrance to the river. That happened a long time ago. Now it flows into the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

So the pollution goes in a different direction now.

Well, considering that the drinking water comes from the lake, I think it was a good decision.

Ours came out of the Mississippi, the terminus of 1800 miles of industrial/agricultural sewer line. It’s processed by the infamous NOLA Sewer and Water Board whose system has so many leaks the city loses about 50% of the water it produces.
Ours now comes from our own well and tests 100% clean.

By the way. Just an ignorant uniformed thought here, but the train ties are made of wood, wouldn’t setting fire to the rails eventually burn the ties and thereby derail trains since the integrity of the track will be compromised?
Maybe the ties are saturated in something that won’t allow them to burn?

I have been thinking the same thing. I know they used to soak telephone poles and, I though, railroad ties in creosote, but I doubt they do that anymore. I don’t know if that is flammable or not anyway. I also wondered about the integrity of the metal ties and bolts, etc. too.

Mornin’ aus. I don’t know what the railroad uses for ties in urban settings, but creosote is still used on all the railroad ties installed on the northern US rail line.

I tried to look up whether creosote soaked ties are flammable. I know that creosote buildup in a chimney is very flammable. Couldn’t find an answer.

Right? It all seems odd. Stella suggested that the ties aren’t made out of wood anymore. Could be.

I’m not sure they are wood. Btw, I posted a video of this somewhere.

I just know that a million years ago when we walked along the railroad tracks (now a felony 🙄) from our cottage into town that the ties were made of wood. We would sometimes find loose spikes and lug them home.

“Railroad ties are traditionally made of wood, but pre-stressed concrete is now also widely used, especially in Europe and Asia. Steel ties are common on secondary lines in the UK;[1] plastic composite ties are also employed, although far less than wood or concrete. As of January 2008, the approximate market share in North America for traditional and wood ties was 91.5%, the remainder being concrete, steel, azobé (red ironwood) and plastic composite.[2]”

YouTube to crack down on “borderline content” that comes close to violating its “community standards” but doesn’t
JAN 29, 2019 3:00 PM BY ROBERT SPENCER
This will likely be the end of JihadWatchVideo, since the social media giants and the entire Leftist establishment have wholeheartedly signed on to the spurious claim that opposing jihad mass murder and Sharia oppression of women, gays and others is “hate.” Of course it is actually a matter of simply standing for justice, but these social media giants allow for no appeal in matters such as these.

2,000 Muslim Child Marriage Immigration Cases In 10 Years
January 25, 2019 Daniel Greenfield
https://freedomoutpost.com/2000-muslim-child-marriage-immigration-cases-in-10-years/
Naila Amin was only thirteen years old when she was married off to her Pakistani first cousin twice her age who beat and raped her. “He dragged me about twenty feet – the whole length of the house – by my hair,” she relates. “He began kicking me in the head and it was so hard I saw stars.” She described how, “My mother would watch my husband and my father kick me together in the head.”
Even though Nalia was a United States CITIZEN, she was engaged to be married when she was eight years old. And at thirteen, her application to bring her rapist to the United States was APPROVED by USCIS.
While Nalia is the youngest of the “child brides” in the Senate report, “How the U.S. Immigration System Encourages Child Marriages”, the young abused American citizen is one of thousands of young girls who are either trafficked into this country or who are used to bring their older “husbands” to America.
Between 2007 and 2017, there were 8,686 petitions for spousal or fiancé visas for or on behalf of minors. And during that same period, 4,749 minors on spousal or fiancé visas got green cards. Even while the United States was claiming to fight sex trafficking in underage girls, our own immigration system was rewarding and promoting the sexual trafficking of girls as young as thirteen.
2,152 spousal and fiancé petitions for or on behalf of minors from Muslim countries were approved.
While Mexico had the highest number of underage petitions, that’s because it has a high rate of immigration to the United States. When the report evaluated the percentage of child marriage petitions among visa petitions in general, Muslim countries entirely dominated the list.
These numbers show how prevalent child marriage is in Muslim countries and how much of a role our immigration system plays in importing child sexual abuse under the guise of marriage into America. As Muslim immigration to America increases, the rate of child marriage trafficking will rise along with it.
No age was too young for the petition filers. there were more spousal and fiancé petitions filed for nine-year-olds than thirteen-year-olds. The number of petitions sometimes increased as the ages of the children dropped. These numbers are the inevitable outcome of our immigration system.
Pakistan has a 21% child marriage rate. In Iraq, it’s 15%. In Jordan, it’s 8%. In Afghanistan, it’s 57%. In Yemen, it’s more than two-thirds. Child marriage is an inescapable part of Islam.
These numbers invariably bleed over into immigration from countries where child marriage is normal. As long as child marriage remains a part of Islam, Islamic immigration will continue to be a vector for the sexual abuse of children in the United States.

Thank you for sharing this important topic, G & C. What a wretched life these girls live. Our government must do a better job of screening for this, but during the Obama years, they looked the other way.

Introducing a dog to wearing boots
Many dogs aren’t happy campers when someone puts something on their feet. So if you want your pup to wear boots in the cold, you’ll need to introduce her to them gradually and positively. In fact, some dogs are even uncomfortable with having their feet handled. If that’s the case with your dog, work on that first and then introduce her to the boots. To learn how, see our resource called Grooming and Medical Handling: Dog Training Plan.
Once your dog feels OK with her feet being handled and having the boots put on, she still may not want to walk in them. That’s because wearing boots is not a natural sensation for a dog; it’s something that takes some getting used to. If your dog won’t move, bites at the boots, lifts her feet uncomfortably or just looks miserable when she has her boots on, here’s how to help her feel better about it:
Try putting on one boot, feeding her a high-value treat, and then taking the boot off. Keep doing this until she looks happy when you put the boot on.
Next, ask her to move around the room, wearing the one boot, with a special treat as a reward.
Once she’s happy walking around in the one boot, repeat the process, adding one boot at a time until she is walking around the room wearing all four boots. Then you’re both ready to brave the snow and ice!

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

There was a really good discussion on Hannity tonight. I just happened to catch part of it. I can’t remember the names of the women, but they are contributers who are on all the time. Anyway, one is a longtime Dem and she was having a fit about the NY abortion law. She said that even pro-abortion people don’t really want this.
