   Dr MacDonald’s argument that “we just cannot afford it” is easily countered with “we cannot afford not to.”
   Until people start being provably harmed by the lowering of standards, we may be forced to deal with this.
   Perhaps the female parents having to deal with their daughters being pushed into a STEM field in which their daughters do not wish to participate, we may be stuck with this crap. Or someone comes up with a better argument.
   Would wager many here, myself excluded, have a better argument.
