My thoughts about Mitt Romney and Ronna McDaniel

I’m sure you have all heard, by now, about Mitt Romney’s Op-Ed in the Washington Post, in which he sharply criticizes President Trump.

Here’s the link, if you want to read it.

Washington Post

To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation. A president should unite us and inspire us to follow “our better angels.” A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. As a nation, we have been blessed with presidents who have called on the greatness of the American spirit. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring…

First, my opinion of Mitt Romney writing such an opinion in a major newspaper before he has even been sworn in:

He’s a rat bastard, a two-faced swine, who holds his finger in the wind to see which way it is blowing. As for his “integrity”, how would you characterize a man who asks for and accepts the President’s endorsement and then stabs him in the back as soon as he is elected? To me, that’s not a man of integrity. As for being a uniter, Mitt should look in the mirror, because with this kind of first-day attack, he is attacking every one of us who voted for President Trump and continue to support him.

Mitt made a big mistake this time, in my opinion. Yes, he is being praised by the globalists, the Never-Trumpers, the leftist journalists and the Democrats. Mitt wants to be President, and he thinks that this will set him apart from the President, and earn him some kind of respect for “resisting”.

On the other hand, he is being sharply criticized by Trump supporters and some non-supporters, like Michael Medved (it’s a pretty tame criticism, but criticism it is.)

A couple of examples:

I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I know that I will NEVER again vote for Romney, even if he is the only one running. Now, I would like to talk about Ronna Romney McDaniel. She is being attacked because she is related by blood to Mitt Romney. Some are saying that she must have known in advance that Mitt Romney was mounting this attack.

I can’t prove that Ronna McDaniel didn’t know about Mitt’s Op-Ed in advance or that she doesn’t approve of it. But then, those who say she did know have no more idea about this than I do. Personally, I don’t believe in guilt by association, and I can only look at what the woman has done and said.

First of all, she publicly criticized her uncle.

Second, Ronna McDaniel is a great fundraiser and has strongly supported President Trump – first in her home state of Michigan, then as RNC chair. If she turns out to be a fink, she can always be fired, but why turn on her when her only sin is being the niece of Mitt Romney?

She may be a blood relation, but her mother divorced Mitt’s brother, Scott, in 1992. I live in Michigan and follow politics here. Her mother (the elder Ronna) has been very active for years. She a Republican, but not a Romney by birth.

When Ronna Romney, Ronna McDaniel’s mother, ran for the Senate in Michigan in 1994, George Romney supported her opponent, Spencer Abraham.

I imagine this made an impression on her daughter, Ronna, as she was supporting her mother for the Republican nomination to the Senate.

Just because two people have the same last name or are in the same family doesn’t mean they love each other. I know that from my own family, and I’ll bet you do too.

Ronna McDaniel has been a staunch Trump supporter and a big fundraiser. In my opinion she worked hard for and brought in Michigan for Trump. McDaniel had activist Wendy Day removed from her Michigan party position as grassroots vice-chair due to her refusal to support Donald Trump. These are the reasons why she was chosen to lead the RNC.

So far, I haven’t seen any reason to believe that Ronna McDaniel is an enemy of the President, or that she should be removed from her position because of some imagined betrayal.

From today’s Detroit Free Press (lefty newspaper):

The back-and-forth between Mitt Romney and the president — with McDaniel in the middle — harkens back to the 2016 campaign. The day before the Michigan primary, Mitt Romney urged voters to reject Trump as “a phony, a fraud.” But McDaniel as state party chair became a full-throated supporter of Trump, helping him to become the first Republican presidential nominee to win Michigan since 1988.

Mitt Romney might have been a decent man if he hadn’t gotten bitten by the politics bug. Personally, I think he I should constantly measuring himself against other powerful men and not measuring up. He never struck me as strong. He just lacks strength of character and resolve.

Also, he absolutely the insider poster boy. Mitt would never deny whatever the powers that be tell him to do.

I never like Mitt…anyway I do believe his nic name is “two faced” appropriately!

Ronna I’m not lumping her in with cousin Mitt but I do have a bone to pick with her

Ronna should have grabbed the bull by the horns after 2018 MidTerms

Republicans won election night only to lose 1 week later by mysterious ballots

    Where was Ronnas outrage?

I did expect her to go to bat for her Republican candidates

    As I recall hearing from Ronna was…well…not a peep…not a word…silence

But perhaps I expected too much of her

While I respect and appreciate ex-President Romney’s opinions on Presidential conduct….oh…wait…he never was drafted or elected…never mind.

Yeah, Mitt, unite us like Obama did. Sour grapes.

It’s probably already been said but this is a campaign speech. Romney is going to run for POTUS.

The world needs American leadership, and it is in America’s interest to provide it. A world led by authoritarian regimes is a world — and an America — with less prosperity, less freedom, less peace.

I can see the slogan now Romney; Make the Presidency Moral Again.

So President Trump endorsed Romeny and Romeny happily accepted that endorsement but then President Trump’s actions this month by Romney’s calculations have turned Romeny against President Trump. Again.

    Flip flop Flip flop.

But, on balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office.

Romney is going to run as the candidate of “character.”

With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable.

    ****

Trump’s words and actions have caused dismay around the world.

Romney seems to think that this is a bad thing? President Trump’s actions and words have only cause dismay to the enemies of America, this is why we elected President Trump.

The world needs American leadership, and it is in America’s interest to provide it. A world led by authoritarian regimes is a world — and an America — with less prosperity, less freedom, less peace.

Aw gee, Romney tell us who you think might provide that leadership.

I do not intend to comment on every tweet or fault. But I will speak out against significant statements or actions that are divisive, racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions.

Wait what? Just a couple of months ago Romney was kissing the hand of someone who he considered to be divisive, racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions? And Romney is not going to comment on every tweet and fault of President Trump? Has anyone other than Paul Ryan asked him to opine at all?

I remain optimistic about our future.

So do I Romney. I hope you find yourself bearing the brutal force of your treachery on a very public scale.

And last but far from least is the most telling line in the whole pathetic squall; Mitt Romney believes that we were a better, safer, more stable, more respected nation when Barack Hussein Obama was president.

In a 2016 Pew Research Center poll, 84 percent of people in Germany, Britain, France, Canada and Sweden believed the American president would “do the right thing in world affairs.” One year later, that number had fallen to 16 percent.

Romney does not think that he can win in 2020 he just thinks that he can harm President Trump enough that any democrat will be able to beat him.

What a vile piece of humanity is Mitt Romney.

Romney might be aware that he isn’t ever going to be a winner. He sure as heck isn’t going to play kingmaker either.

It seems to me that he has backing in Utah, probably largely Mormon. That’s all he has. He’s just a cleaned up male version of Hillary and the Won’t Go Away tour.

The only part where we disagree is that Willard is going to run for POTUS again.
Have you read the comments in WaPo? Hysterical. D.C. will never accept Willard.
Willard will be “beloved” in Utah only, just like McCain was in Arizona. Even a dummy like Willard will understand that there is no support for a Willard Presidency, ever, not from anyone.

On the bright side – cannot wait for Willard’s next flip-flop on Pres Trump. The response ought to be epic lolol.

  9. Romney pretended to run for POTUS.

That is the truth. And I said it when he was pretending to run. Just like McCain.

Obama was the Chosen One, and they were just placeholders for the GOP.

Remember, before they both “ran for President”, they were both the Democrats’ and the MSM’s absolute favorite Republicans. They were called “Mavericks”, positively. “They’re the GOOD Republicans.” They were only, and ever, the Evil Beast Nazi Monster when they won the nomination and pretended to run against Obama, all the while proclaiming that “I think Obama would make a Grrrrrrrrrrrrreat!! President!” and doing everything except put an Obama bumper sticker on their podiums.

Media loves them both (McCain, RIP), again, of course. They always did.

Obamacare was modeled exactly after the failed Romneycare in MA.

I’m so glad for the 2020 Trumpslide.

I agree with the post. Ronna came out against the oped and guilt by association isnt fair. Sins of the father(uncle) and all that. People will watch her closely even more now anyway. Romney seems to velieve this time he will be President or at least get to destroy the current one. He was very friendly with mccain and flake.
I hope the turtle is willing to work for maga and get him in line.

Stella – Ronna knew. Willard called (texted?) her the day before to let her know. Ronna called Pres Trump and told him.
Can we fault her for her uncle’s bad behavior? I think not. imo

I didn’t realize that she knew but, like you, I don’t think she approved of it, and can’t be faulted for his behavior. I believe in judging people by what they say and do.

This was today, a.m., 3 Jan 2019, on Fox and Friends, taken from Fox’s youtube channel.
Only 2 guesses were possible – Ronna knew, or Ronna did not know. Meh. 50/50 chance on a guess.

The real decision is, is Ronna complicit? Ronna called Pres Trump and told Pres Trump. That is the correct action, and puts her squarely on the side of the good guys imo Ronna is blameless. imo

        and you need no defense!

I think the insinuation that many people were making is that she knew and was colluding with her uncle. That is clearly not true, since she immediately informed the President. So whether or not she knew of the op-ed ahead of time isn’t material.
