Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, undergoes lung procedure to remove cancerous growths

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, underwent a lung procedure to remove a cancerous growth on Friday, the Supreme Court said in a release.

She is “resting comfortably” at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. There was no evidence of any remaining disease following the surgery, the court said. There was no evidence of disease elsewhere in Ginsburg’s body, and no further treatment is planned.

Ginsburg, the eldest member of the court and the senior justice of its liberal wing, underwent a pulmonary lobectomy. Two nodules in the lower lobe of her left lung were discovered “incidentally” during tests to treat rib fractures she sustained in a fall last month. Both nodules were found to be malignant during an initial evaluation.

Sloan Kettering describes a lobectomy as the most common operation for non-small cell lung cancer on its website. It is the best treatment for “isolated lung cancer in an otherwise healthy patient,” according to the hospital.

Hmmm…They don’t usually treat an 85yo with cancer with chemo etc anyway, but then again that’s for us peons. The ruling class of politicians has the ferrari platinum healthcare plan. I wonder how old her parents and siblings have lived to.
My dad is still hanging in there in his 90’s after having cancer in his late 60’s and a different cancer in his 70’s. He can’t get around or work, although he does enjoy reading and his raspberry pastries, he sleeps most of the time. RBG sleeps a lot too, or she said it was too much wine! I wonder how much longer she’ll want to fake being able to work. If she refuses to retire, she could last another 20 years like my dad, but she would just not go to court, and keep her job, thereby having the court stay at 8???
