   House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) confirmed Thursday that the House will add $5 billion in funding for border security plus additional money for disaster relief to the current interim bill after President Trump refused to sign the bill that came from the Senate last night.

   Earlier Thursday, Rep. Mark Meadows, VP Mike Pence, Rep. Mo Brooks, Rep. Paul Ryan were all seen entering the White House for a meeting.

   Paul Ryan emerged from the meeting and said President Trump will not sign the interim spending bill that came from the Senate last night.

   President Trump now put a tremendous amount of pressure on the House to provide border wall funding in the bill or it’s lights out in less than 48 hours.

   If the House approves of the bill with the new changes to include border wall funding, it goes back to the Senate to get approved.

   The State Department has already been directed to prepare for a shutdown, reports FOX News.

   Tried watching this for a few minutes. Unfortunately viewing such proceedings doesn’t up a person’s confidence in that body.

   Occasionally a friend sends me a copy of a private politics/economics newsletter he subscribes to. The following is a small portion of a recent newsletter:

   “I think by now you all understand that I view Trump as a very bright fellow who plays his opposition into corners and works on quiet but big solutions with many formerly seen as adversaries.

   “Yet the most of the media can’t or don’t see any of this. Their failure is primarily based on their inability to view events and leaders in an objective manner. The tag “Fake News” is well deserved.

   “Let’s examine the on-going budget battle, potential “government shutdown,” and the Wall construction first. Missing from virtually every comment I’ve been able to find is the fact that Trump and team have succeeded over the past year in getting 3/4 of the federal government funded on long-term budgets, NOT CRs (Continuing Resolutions) as have been used by the Uniparty for much of the past decade. Actually, I think the percentage is higher than 75% now that last week’s agreement on the Agriculture Department has passed and was signed into law.

   “Hence, “government shutdown” now translates into only a minimum few departments being closed if Trump determines to pull the plug. And positions within those few departments deemed “essential” will not be shutdown. Personal opinion — shut it down if the Dems want to play hardball over an issue 65% of Americans strongly favor — that is, they want the Wall built.

   “In the interim, lots is being accomplished behind the scenes. The Left and their media toadies don’t appear intelligent enough to grasp after two years how Trump throws the bait out in public tweets, lets all of them “chase the rabbit,” bashing him and the “stupid stuff he’s always saying,” while doing the business of the people we expect of Presidents — and unannounced till it is done. Too much of the public blindly follows along with CNN, MSNBC, NYT, WaPo, et al. with nary a thought about what’s been accomplished. Sad that all they seem to want is to hate someone. That’s counter-productive to the max.

   “All this leads me on a constant pursuit for news sources that have the basic intelligence to see what’s happening. Not blind cheer leading, but insightful perceptions of what’s occurring in our government and our world. Trump seems to take the businessman’s tack of identifying the most important issues and facing them head-on without allowing himself or staff to get boxed into thinking about the challenges in standard us-them format that haven’t ever resulted in true solutions.”
