Morning Lucille! Very cute greeting! Where has 2018 gone? It’s just flown by.
I’m going to my DD’s house to help set up baby B’s room, later today. Can’t wait! It will look like a butterfly garden, which is fitting, as my DD always had her room, here at home, covered in butterfly pictures. So sweet.
Hope your Saturday is a beautiful one!

Awww! Thank you. We had a nice time and the room looks great. I actually got a picture of a blue morpho at my local park earlier in the year. I’d never seen one around here. They are gorgeous.

A woman that I’ve been friends with for about 30 years is Chinese. There were a lot of similarities between her and this woman. One thing she will never do is dwell on the past. One of her favorite sayings is “forget it.” She is a blessing in my life.

I only have one story to tell. I once called her a “he” when I replied to her comment. I think she was insulted and pointed out that she was a she. My reply was that her frog didn’t have eyelashes so I would know. The next comment I saw, the frog had eyelashes.

I wish I could say that Friday wasn’t a lousy day at work, but it was. I’m trying not to dwell on it, but that’s hard for me.

Anyway, if my link came through, check out this dress I found on Pinterest. Fashion has made a wrong turn somewhere.

Sorry that work is lousy Rhea. When I was in a lousy work environment I had one kindred soul and we really bolstered each other throughout the day.
Remember you are trading your daylight to pay your bills, that is it, you are not attached to your job in any other way so try not to get emotionally invested in chaos, it makes righting yourself emotionally difficult. Compartmentalize. Your current job is a means not an end.
Keep looking and the right job will come along.
As to fashion making a wrong turn somewhere I bought a 1940’s Ann Kauffman dress to wear for Christmas. I’ll take a picture and post it later.

Thanks, lovely. It’s hard to keep that in mind in the middle of the chaos, but I will try. The hardest thing right now is to keep my mouth shut, but I saw on Pinterest a quote that said, “don’t trust your mouth when your heart is bitter.”
Well, okay then.
Please do post your dress later! I keep finding pictures of these dresses from the early mid 1900s and they are so pretty! Modern fashion has nothing on these clothes. I don’t know how to say it; it’s like people dressed like appearance mattered back then.

I have to add that clothing, in general, has declined in quality and detail since the 1970’s, when clothing was still made in this country. You might not have been able to afford as many nice things, but they were available to the average person. I remember some beautifully tailored blouses that I owned in the 1970’s, finished with buttoned sleeves and trim on the sleeves, collar and button placket, and beautifully tailored slacks, jackets and skirts. Of course, we used to dress up for work every day too. I also sewed some of my own clothes to pad out my wardrobe. I made one pair of light gray wool gabardine slacks that I literally wore out!

People just don’t seem to care about how they look anymore. I don’t want to sound like we should bring back vanity, and I don’t want to have to dress up fancy just to go grocery shopping, but I feel like more people should put in some effort not to look like trash out in public. You can dress in clothes that aren’t fancy but are still neat and clean and don’t force the rest of the planet to have the misfortune to glance at you and have to be treated to a view of your underwear (or potentially worse, lack thereof. Once was enough to see a woman who should have known better skip their bra in the morning) or every fat roll or movement of flesh that clingy clothes show off.
I don’t know if that makes any sense.

One of the first clothing purchases I made after moving to Los Angeles in February 1963 was a simple red wool, 3/4th-sleeved, slim-skirt, knee-length dress. Working in an executive office then meant high heels, nylons–before pantyhose, girdles, slips, suits or very nice fitted dresses for wintertime. The cost? $25–which is $202.73 in 2018 money.
That dress lasted for many years and remained in style because it was so unembellished and classic. I eventually sold it in good condition to a used clothing store…yes, there was such an establishment near my apartment in downtown L.A.
Everything was so new and exciting then. Downtown was clean with no one laying on the streets, though there was a Skid Row which the various Christian missions served. And there were dozens of churches downtown, too, with vibrant congregations. There were two newspapers…the Examiner and the Times…seemed to me one was a morning and one an evening…and both on the conservative side.
Oh, man, don’t get me started!

I keep trying to remember that, stella. It’s hard.
Hoop skirts don’t look like so much fun either. But the dresses were pretty, if you could afford them.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Trouble is, it was hard to keep clean, you had to mind the hem not get wet or muddy, and it helped to have someone in the house to pull the strings on the corset! Of course, they were lovely! And it feels so nice to dress up to go somewhere fancy! I’m not going to say I like much of current fashion, but I really never dress for anyone but me any more (except uniforms as required by the hospitals).

I get the feeling it was the kind of dress that would have been worn to a party or a social function. It’s still prettier than most of the dresses people wear on the red carpet in Hollywood.
You brought up the hem, which now that you point it out, would be the bane of my existence if I had to wear it

Conservative Democracy
Liberal principles have brought us to a dead end
https://www.firstthings.com/article/2019/01/conservative-democracy
The present moment is one of growing discomfort, both in America and in Europe, with the regnant liberal political theory often described as liberal democracy. It is frequently said that the only genuine alternatives to liberal democracy are Marxism and Fascism, but I don’t believe this is true. I want to sketch an alternative viewpoint that I will call conservative democracy. This position is closer to the spirit of traditional constitutionalism in both America and Britain than the liberal political theories of our day. Moreover, it is far better equipped to maintain the free institutions of these nations than liberalism.
There are prominent scholars and public figures who are convinced that “things are getting better” in almost every way. As for me, I find it difficult not to see the Western nations disintegrating before our eyes. The most significant institutions that have characterized America and Britain for the last five centuries, giving these countries their internal coherence and stability—the Bible, public religion, the independent national state, and the traditional family—are not merely under assault. They have been, at least since World War II, in precipitous decline.
In the United States, for example, some 40 percent of children are today born outside of marriage. The overall fertility rate has fallen to 1.76 children per woman. American children for the most part receive twelve years of public schooling that is scrubbed clean of God and Scripture. And it is now possible to lose one’s livelihood or even to be prosecuted for maintaining traditional Christian or Jewish views on various subjects.
Add to this the fact that the principal project of European and American political elites for decades now has been the establishment of a “liberal international order” whose aim is to export American norms and values to other nations, and you have a stunning picture of what the United States has become—a picture that in certain respects resembles that of Napoleonic France: an ideologically anti-religious, anti-traditionalist universalist power seeking to bring its version of the Enlightenment to the nations of the world, if necessary by force…
There is, then, in recent Western tradition, at least one well-developed alternative to liberalism that is neither Marxist nor Fascist. This is the Anglo-American conservative tradition. I do not mean to endorse every evil that was tolerated under the old republicanism in the United States—the institutionalized abuse of the African-American minority being the most obvious example of something we should be very pleased to do without.
But I do believe that it is possible to think in terms of what might now be called a conservative democracy. Such a political model would reject the axioms of the liberal-rationalist system, and would instead be concerned to maintain a balance between the principles of limited government and individual liberties, on the one hand; and the principles of religion, nationalism, and historical empiricism that had maintained free government in Britain and America for centuries, on the other…
Many can now see that the nations of the West are hurtling toward an abyss. I have offered a sketch of what it would mean to back away from it. I have suggested that there is no need for a revolutionary revision of the great constitutional documents of the Anglo-American political tradition. But the liberal axiom system must be set aside: We must cease to consider it the source of our political institutions. We must stop teaching it as a dogma to our children. And we must retrieve older traditions of Anglo-American political thought, which may yet be revived as a political model that can be called conservative democracy.

The rule is always and everywhere the same: in Muslim countries, one must conform one’s behavior to Islamic sensibilities. And in non-Muslim countries, one must conform one’s behavior to Islamic sensibilities.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
