Today is the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, a Catholic holiday. In many predominantly Catholic countries of Europe (and Catholic cantons in Switzerland), today is a public holiday as well.

Here is a general article about the Immaculate Conception of Mary:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immaculate_Conception

Here is the Catholic Catechism on the subject (made a smaller link with tinyurl.com)
    https://tinyurl.com/ya7s2fbz

This topic has generated a lot of debate over the years (and some downright nasty comments), so please spare all of us the religious diatribes and just enjoy the day, where we think of the Mother of our Lord, the God-bearer (Theotokos) and her special role and place in the heavenly design. No, we do not worship her; that alone is reserved to Jesus. But we do honor her and ask her to join her prayers to ours, much like we ask our families and friends to pray for us, too.

Prayers, imagery, and music to Mary are manifold; some sublime. However, many (even Catholics!) confuse this day, the immaculate (sinless) conception of Mary by Anna and Joachim, with the immaculate (sinless) conception of Jesus (celebrated March 25th), and the music you might hear today is often for the latter, not the former.

Here is a typical iconic representation of Anna and Joachim (“Embrace at the Golden Gate”) after receiving the news that elderly Anna and Joachim, childless to date, would finally become parents by divine intervention – to Mary, who would grow up to be the Mother of our Lord:

No music today – I do not want to contribute to the confusion — I just ask that you take time from Christmas preparations and the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the tumult of politics and the markets, think of Anna and Joachim and their joy, think of the Blessed Virgin Mary and give a prayer of thanks that God indeed loves us.

Big dogs, with the possible exception of the American Mastiff, generally don’t, Zauber only made it to ten.
What bothers me is that the same innercity s**t that is ruining the pitbulls by breeding them as indiscriminately as they do themselves, almost ruined the rottie breed in the 70s/80s. Can’t tell you how many I ran into being used to guard ‘houses’ and bred for every wrong reason, when we busted a rottie-guarded ‘house’ the dogs generally had to be put down. The rottie was replaced by the pit in innercity settings as the breeders were looking for a dog that wasn’t smarter than they were – pits didn’t work either so they just stayed there.
It took the Romans/Germans centuries to perfect the rottie breed as a herding/wardog and the innercity thugs just about ten years to…,screw the pooch.
Don’t start me on what the South Florida trash did to dobermanns.

  9. There is a gaming service and interface called Steam. There are forums on Steam. There is an off-topic forum, and the most popular thread is called “What are You Listening to Now? v. 3.0”, and the rules of the thread are: “post a youtube video and nothing else.” It’s well over 3,000 posts, some of them mine, and has introduced me to much music, and made me realize that gamers listen to pretty much everything. I throw some wrenches in their works, and nobody minds. Gamers aren’t typically religious……………………….. Here have some liturgy, in multi-part harmony, you hippies. Then someone posts some Grateful Dead. Then I post Chopin. Then someone posts Al Greene. (“Aw yeah baby. I’m finna do yo dishes. Finna get ’em all hot and wet, and give ’em a good. Hard. Scrubbin.” — New employees don’t really know what to think when I say that to them with Al Greene’s voice.)

Over 3,000 posts of the best (in our humble opinions) music in the world. I wish I could make a Pandora station that plays every video in that thread (and v 1.0 and 2.0) sequentially.

    • I’ve never used Edge, don’t use Firefox any more, will never use Internet Explorer, and certainly not Chrome. I’ve been using a browser made by the guy who was fired from Mozilla for donating to CA’s Prop 8 years before he was fired (they found out about his $50 donation 8 years after the fact, and fired him for it, because SJW gonna SJW), the browser is called Brave. So far, for more than two years now, I love it.

I used to love Firefox, too. Too bad they got converged and taken over by SJW NPCs who fire their CEO for donating to Prop 8, 8 years prior. Oh, well. It’s not like you buy a browser. And good for Mozilla. They have a staff of people with multiple piercings, tattoos, alternative sexualities, and alternative religions. It’d be sweet if they had a staff of people who could make stuff work, but they have that at least.

      https://brave.com/download/

I won’t use a browser made by a SJW-converged company. Which precludes all but Brave. They can all go do things with themselves, things that can’t be spoken of in polite company.

Been beavering in the garage on this little project, a stationary miniature steam engine, built from scrap metal and junk I’ve acquired over the years. The bore is 3/8 of an inch and the stroke a little over 3/4 of an inch.

Finally putting to use some tiny drill bits that were given me almost 40 years ago. Used one to drill the sideways hole in the piston for the wrist pin, which connects the piston to the connecting rod. That hole is 32 thousandths of an inch in diameter; the wrist pin will be a 3/8 inch long piece of a small wire paper clip.

Here’s the plans I’m working from, with “on the fly” modifications to suit my available selection of materials and supplies, and my knowledge of mechanics. Like knowing the specification that the axle be 1 inch is wrong, since a 3/8 inch thick flywheel goes on each end (consuming 3/4 inch) and the bearing carrier in which the axle spins, with the flywheels outside the carrier, is 1.2 inches wide!

If I do things well, it should spin at 3000 rpm on 30 P.S.I. of air pressure.

    http://npmccabe.tripod.com/index-3.html

This is just an exercise to build my machining chops so I can build an internal combustion engine the likes of which I have never seen except in my head. The typical engine loses about 30% efficiency in heat loss out the radiator, and another 30% to friction losses. Mine will have insulation to keep the heat in, and a trivial number of moving parts. It will also not have the extreme pressures and temperatures that oxidize nitrogen, so it will be pollution free without the need for the energy wasting smog pump and an expensive catalytic converter. It will light and of a compact size, with a power to weight ratio better than that of a two-stroke engine.

    In theory.

My youngest son was out shopping and found a plush llama stuffed toy. It has a Santa hat and a blanket sweater on it that says “Fa la la la llama’. He texted me that his wife asked him what a llama has to do with Christmas, what should he say?
I suggested it’s cultural and related to the large amount of South Americans immigrating to Denver and the melding of the cultural traditions. We have reindeer Andes people have llamas.
Things have been quiet for a while…

We just took the kids to a local church for a walk through Bethlehem. It was an amazing production, the whole large church was turned into a town with shops, etc, and yes, inns that turned us away.

Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus were surrounded by goats, miniature cows, little bitty ponies and a tiny donkey, and yep, a llama. Which the kids thought was a camel.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
