    • One of my favorite songs. I first heard it on the episode of ER where Dr. Green dies. It was so touching. Those characters had become part of our lives and it felt so personal. Every time I hear it, I think about that scene. Great show and great song.

      • Is why I quit watching “Walking Dead” by season 4.

Why am I weeping about fictional characters? I have enough real characters in my life to weep about and pray for. I don’t do soap operas any more. I have one in real life. It’s called Real Life.

I wept watching the Sci-Fi film “Interstellar” more than once. I can’t watch it without crying.

How do we care for fictional characters like that? It’s why I quit. They’re not real.

        My friends are.

Just saw a headline that Besty Devoss is being sued so that she’ll start moving on student loan relief. Who promised anyone student loan relief? I’m really wondering if I am one of the last few people actually paying mine off. No one promised me forgiveness for my loan; I promised that I would pay it back when I got out of school and got full time work.

There’s something wrong here. I don’t like it.

    Good morning Stellarites 🙂 .

I woke up to a surprise snowfall. Yippie! 😐

I grew up going to this toboggan hill every year as a child. It was so much fun, facing the picture on the left hand side was a small building where free hot chocolate with marshmallows was served.

My husband and his brothers and sisters (eight in total) used to live on this huge hill, so big that the Union soldiers actually mistook it for Missionary Ridge during the Chattanooga fighting and dug in up there.

We don’t get a lot of snow down here, and they were an adventurous bunch (understatement) so they used to ride their sled down the hill with no snow. The road is bumpy, patched, has holes in it. Terrible condition, the city won’t maintain it for the very few families who live on it. So, it was a bumpy, dangerous ride, and at the bottom of the hill a busy road crosses but you of course cannot stop there. They used to post a kid at the foot of the hill who would watch for cars and give the all clear, a not 100% safe plan.

One of my sisters in law’s friends was taking turns one day, had a crash, got beat the heck out of, tumbled head over heels, all pavement burned. When she finally staggered to her feet and started up the hill, all the kids were waving and yelling.

She told me she felt so warmed at their concern and encouragement, happy her friends were cheering her safety. Until she realized that they were all yelling “Get the sled! Get the sled!” There was an absolute rule that whoever went down on the sled had better come back up with it, and there apparently were no exceptions. 😀 😀 😀

Tough world back in those days. No one in the family ever grew up and looked for their safe space.

            That is hilarious !

What fun to be racing down the hill with the added adventure of the possibility of having to bail if a car appeared (out of nowhere of course) 😊.

Our summer house was at the top of a small hill. My dad bought us kids a giant blue metal contraption. It looked like a metal tire but on the inside there were two flat metal seats welded to the interior of the concaved wall. There was also a metal bar in front of both metal seats. Two of us would sit in it and it just took a small push and we’d be rolling down the hill head over heels. Great memory!

We still have it in the dirt crawl space under the Summer home. I’m not brave enough to dig it out but I may get someone to do it some day 🙂 !

My husband said there were always sparks shooting around that sled as they raced down the hill. They also built an elaborate zip line that went from tree to tree. That one resulted in at least one broken arm on a brother.

Yes, me too. One thing I have noticed, Sometimes the intent to help you is there, but when time comes, I will every now and then get the, you need it right now? I don’t say it, but I think to myself, no, I’m just asking to ask. I guess it takes time to get the routine down, where both are comfortable.

I’ll give you an example of what I sometimes run into that causes me to get the you need it right now? thing. Maybe you will have a suggestion. Through the week I eat frozen breakfast sandwich for breakfast and hub will make me a sandwich for lunch and leave in fridge for me. On the weekends he cooks my lunch, (my lunch is my dinner, I eat 2 times a day) so I can have real food, as he calls it.

The problem comes in because he asks me after I eat first time, what time I want him to grill or whatever he is doing. I can only give him a general time, so he says when you are ready for me to cook, let me know. Never works. So, I suggested that he just go on and cook it, and I will nuke it to reheat whenever I am ready. I figure that will give him the rest of the day to tinker with whatever he would like to do, uninterrupted. He won’t do it because he wants me to eat it right after it has been cooked. I understand why, but it causes a problem for me when I ask for it and he gets aggravated because he is right in the middle of something. Then I feel guilty and wish I had just ordered take-out or something. I miss real food but I don’t know how to fix this one.

My only suggestion would be to skip breakfast, or eat something really small (piece of toast with peanut butter or something); and then eat the “real food” whenever he feels like cooking it. I’m very happy to be flexible when someone else is willing to do the cooking. Hope something works out for you, tessa.

I thank you for the response Tundra. I really thought and still do think I was being flexible when I asked that he cook whenever was good for him, before he starts a project. Then all I need to do is nuke it. No problem whatsoever and yes I am thankful for him wanting to do that for me. We’ll work it out, guess I was just talking too much the other day. I hope you are well, and warm. Night, Tundra

      • Oh, I went back down to the hair salon where she was with a picture of my Nana I have from when she was about six years old and showed her. We talked for a half hour or so. She and the other ladies in the salon were touched, too.

The lady was 90. I think my Nana was 87 when she passed. Me and my mom talked with her every other day for an hour, on the phone. Mom talked with her every day. Nana drank Miller High Life, just like me, and we had some great conversations, with lots of laughter. I had a great conversation with this woman this morning.

We were just listening to that song yesterday at work. “I need a woman that’s twice my age.” Grateful Dead and my Boss, don’t think of changing his station on the Pandora. I did that yesterday, and he had ran down the basement and changed it back within ten minutes. And I don’t mind, he’s an incredible Chef/manager.

I told my mom about the song, and about the lady this morning. “I Need a Miracle” — Grateful Dead. Life is strange, and I can’t complain. (I can, but it won’t do any good. I figured that part out, at least.) There are periods of joy that nothing can explain but the influence of God. Every day.

          • She’s surrounded, at work, by crazy angry stupid Latinos. So, more rottweiler. I can’t blame her. They’re stupid, angry, entitiled, mean people. They won’t be there much longer, though. They’re not compatible with a kitchen crew. Not at all. A month or so. They’ll be gone.

She’s actually coming over to my restaurant. Good.

When the crazy family from someplace outside America leaves this nation, and our workplace, I’ll go back. Bossman is held by the huevos, though, in that he cannot fire the lazy two without firing all three. He needs to fire all three, and has the right to do so. They’re a package deal. One of them works. Barely. She cooks eggs. And really doesn’t give a darn what they look like on a plate. What the customer sees. She doesn’t care. And her husband on dish and daughter on prep don’t even care at all. Gimme my paycheck is all. Business? What business?

He’s lost like 5 employees because of this embedded family and how mean they are to his employees? She almost left the other day. I don’t blame her. I did. I lasted 4 days with these w@tbacks. They’re intentional a&&holes. They don’t give 2 s&^ts about this business, and they display hatred for everyone there that isn’t Latino. And they talk crap about us in their Mordor language all day long. Bossman is starting to figure it out. Finally.

So many people have quit (5?) because of how mean this family is. They need to go back home. Plain and simple. They don’t belong here, their beliefs are incompatible with our society’s beliefs, so they need to go back.

At Home Depot we tried hard to find Hispanics to hire in Dalton, GA. Back then that town had a much higher concentration of immigrants who worked in the carpet mills than average towns, and we needed Spanish speaking employees, although again, back then the customers were trying to speak English, they were learning, but not at all fluent.

We had one cashier who was Hispanic, a woman in her forties. Amazing woman, excellent employee, friendly, upbeat, always positive. Eventually she was promoted to head cashier. She was excited, proud, thrilled, and would have gotten a dollar an hour raise for the promotion. And she would have been great at it, could have moved up even further.

Next day she came in crying, explained that she could not accept the promotion. Her husband told her she could not take the job, she was too stupid to do it, she had to turn it down.

There was no change in her hours or working conditions. The SOB only did it out of spite, jealousy, threatened manhood, who knows? She would not go against his wishes.

I would have and both of us would probably have needed a trip to the ER because no one is calling me stupid. If my husband ever, ever tried that I would punch him, no doubt in my mind.

Many years ago I was in a group with a Hispanic woman who was an anchor baby. Her mother had come across the border and had her in a San Diego Hospital, got her birth certificate and then went back to Mexico City. They were not poor people. She was the Human Resources Manager in a big company there in SD. Anyway, this tall, beautiful, strong, intelligent, well spoken woman who had a degree in business would go back home to Mexico City and be called dirty names by her four brothers, and treated like dirt, because that is their culture.

      • I had to reset my router/modem this morning. All day yesterday the internet quit working entirely about every three minutes. I could temporarily fix it if I pulled out my USB internet thingie on my desktop, and plug it back in, but internet went out again in three minutes (if that.) I tuned off the power strip to which they’re both connected, waited thirty seconds (counted them, too), and turned it back on. No problems, now.

That’s usually the best solution to internet problems, I’ve found. Turn off both your modem and your router, wait thirty seconds, and turn them back on. Then go have a cigarette while they restart, because it will take that long.

        But, then, you’re good.

    Morning everyone!
Today we have the second Clyde Aspevig river painting:

    Along with these Thanksgiving images:
The first is from the 1920’s and is by Edmund Davenport

And here is a somewhat more modern Norman Rockwell method

So it snowed/sleeted 7 inches of wet misery here last night – totally killed my plans for today. A friend was taking me out for my (belated) birthday girls day out – oh well – maybe by December!

Chef has an edition that looks like a Bible. I thought that’s what it was, at first. Hardcover, gilt-edged paper. Nope. It’s the Chef’s Companion. I gave him a hug when I realized what it was. That book belongs in every single restaurant. Should be hanging on a chain next to the fire extinguisher, by law. Server: “Does the Chicken Noodle Soup have any gluten in it?” “There’s the book, lady. Look it up. Yes, ma’am, noodles have gluten, as they are made out of wheat.”

    Kitchen question:

I opened a can of chipotle chiles in sauce, and used a small amount. I put the rest in a plastic container in the refrigerator. Can I freeze it? I won’t be using the rest for a while.

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

“After watching her husband rip into pro-death senators who used Dr. Christine Blasey Ford in attempts to derail the appointment of her husband to the U.S. Supreme Court, Ashley is asking all people of faith to unite in praying Psalm 40, which reads:”

“BE PLEASED, O LORD, TO DELIVER ME, LOOK DOWN, O LORD TO HELP ME. LET THEM BE CONFOUNDED AND ASHAMED TOGETHER, THAT SEEK AFTER MY SOUL TO TAKE IT AWAY. LET THEM BE TURNED BACKWARD AND BE ASHAMED THAT DESIRE EVILS TO ME.”

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
