One of my friends son made sure that all animals including the goldfish were evacuated from NC along with the three kids. If your animals aren’t family, then why have them?

I was so mad at that. 6 fox hounds. Good dogs. SD psted anither of at least 6 beagles being rescued from a kennel. I think they were standing on their houses inside. All so scared they were just whining. As a hound mommy and with a fair amount of compassion it disgusts me. I think they are “hunting tools” and not valued. There should be local laws about leaving animals behind like that.

Do they have to give them back? That makes me so angry. When we had the hurricane hit here last year, it crossed my mind to go to a shelter if I had to. But, then I found out you had to have a certain kind of cage for them, which I didn’t have, and they take them away and put them somewhere else anyway. I stayed home with mine. I would do it again.

They just showed this one on the news. The owners had evacuated their family and other pets to a shelter and when they came back to get these dogs the authorities refused to let them reenter. That jives with what happened during Katrina so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

        • Lucille says:

If they HAD to leave the dogs when they supposedly went back for them, they also HAD to know each dog would die and the “authorities” knew that, too. So what “authorities” gave the no-go-zone order? Surely they took cell phone photos or made vids of the “authorities” refusing to let them enter their own property. Show the world the proof!

          • czarowniczy says:

Trust me, the authorities don’t give a rat’s ass about animals left behind. You don’t see the films anymore – didn’t see’em much then either – but folks who brought their pets to bus/helicopter pickup points in Katrina were told you dump the pets right here right now or you stay behind. State shelters were the same way – no pets. State passed a law regarding per accommodations after Katrina but Feds aren’t as nice.
Those guards they put on ingress/egress routes only know what they’re told and they do what they’re told. We had credentials and FEMA and FEMA-hired guards gave us crap, it’s how the system ‘works’.

Your imbuing the authorities and their minions with qualities you have and you presume they have them too. These ‘authorities’ are functionaries whose job it was to plan for the welfare of their charges whom, 13 years after Katrina served as an example, are still housed in cushy emergency quarters during/after the storm while strangers from another state spend their own $$$ rescuing these charges. Seeing any dereliction of duty here?

I understand your explanation and please know I’m not upset at it or you. But I do have some questions:

How many days did the family have to figure out how to evacuate properly?

What would the officials have done if the family simply said they’re going back to get their animals? Shot them…arrested them…let them go but not allow them to come back?

Rescue groups can go into a flooded area, but owners can’t…that’s the rule?

              • czarowniczy says:

The water rose very quickly and the family had to evac from not only their home but from their first shelter too.
Hard to say what the authorities would do – FEMA here would arrest you, put you in whatever vehicle was there and transport you to the closest jail accepting prisoners.
Generally that’s the rule. The authorities at the control points get clearance from their uppers to let the various 1st responders in and after a while you all get to know one another vand once you’re known the folks at the control points will let you vouch for someone.
If you make the choice to leave you cannot reenter until the governor/mayor or whoever says you can return. Even if you have ID showing you live at an address your having left after the ‘authorities’ closed it kills your return until everyone could. We had folks who went out of NOLA to Hammond a month into K for food and were refused reentry.
Czarina and some of her facility’s staff had to sneak back into NOLA through a back road that wasn’t manned to evac some of their medically fragile patients.

Oh, my…not being able to evacuate patients! THAT is disgusting! Their lives weren’t important ’cause the government says the rules are the rules and let ’em die instead! Those government reps have to be sick-in-the-head. Depressing beyond measure!

Yes, and your point is? The state’s plan to deal with them was unviable on its surface but they needed a plan, they created a plan and that was it.
We had hospitals with supposed emergency evac plans where a number of patients died because what they had was ‘a plan’. Didn’t have to be viable, just a plan.

Have to say that I sat and cried for 5 minutes after posting this. If it had been the governmental officials’ mothers or fathers or family members, does anyone think for a moment the rules would have applied to them? Sick, sick, sick!

This man has a big heart and a big bus!

Tony Alsup has spent the last week in a school bus, rescuing dozens of dogs and cats left in the path of the deadly storm.

The bus, emptied seats, and with “EMERGENCY ANIMAL RESCUE SHELTER” emblazoned on its side, has been responsible for saving the lives of 53 dogs and 11 cats from South Carolina animal shelters threatened by Hurricane Florence.

“I’m like, look, these are lives too,” the 51-year-old Greenback, Tennessee trucker told the Washington Post. “Animals  — especially shelter pets — they always have to take the back seat of the bus. But I’ll give them their own bus. If I have to I’ll pay for all the fuel, or even a boat, to get these dogs out of there.”

Saint Frances Animal Center, one of several from which Alsup has rescued numerous animals, sanghis praises on Facebook yesterday.

“It’s all true,” they said. “Tony swooped in at 4am Wednesday morning to pick up our ‘leftovers’ – the dogs with blocky heads, the ones with heartworm. The ones no one else will ever take. And he got them to safety. Not the most conventional evacuation, but surely the one with the most heart.”

Many others are joining in support of Alsup’s efforts. “Hats off, sir. There are still heroes among us,” one user said. “What a wonderful man! Gives me hope back for humanity! Thank you so much, sir,” added another.

While most of the pets have been transported ot shelters with room to house them, many have already begun to be adopted, with some users even requesting to know where the ones Alsup is rescuing specifically would be available. All in all, he has not only saved their lives, but is instrumental in offering many of these would-be companions new ones.

Alsup’s mission is ongoing. Today, his goal is to make it through the flooding to Wilmington, N.C. There are animals in desperate need of a ride on Noah’s bus.

Looooong day – spent a bunch of it on the phone with my GGS’s school.
Seems he got into some behavior-related trouble and when we dug deeper we found out that he’s not been receiving his ADHD-related services at his new school. His IEP clearly states it was to ens 5-23-18 (last day of elementary school) and be reviewed on 8-8-18 (first day of middle school). Well Mom and I received nothing related to the review so I called. Long and short of it was the review wasn’t done and there was much irritation at the Czar Bunker.
I started with the principal who was nice and reacted professionally as I went on about their being over a month late in doing what they’re legally bound to do, how at his jast school I had to eventually get a POC at the US Department of Education and a lawyer before hings started to move. She assured me someone would be getting into contact with me.
20 minutes later the phone rings and it’s the vice-principal for 6th grade. We talk, roughly same thing as I’d discussed with the principal, and while I kept my cool I did mention again about the lawyer and how other problems, one threatening his mom’s job, have this failure to review and implement his IEP as a proximal cause. I also mentioned that if she were to lose her job due to this error of omission it would surely lead to a damage suit. Someone will call me back…
Half hour later the individual responsible for managing the special ed programs calls. Polite chatter and as we talk she says that she’s looked alllllll over his IEP and can’t see anywhere it says there was supposed to be a review on 8-8. I ask her if she’s got a copy of the 20-page beast and she says”yes” so I ask her to look at page one, fourth line down where it says: ‘review date’. “Oh yes”, she says, “I must have missed that!”. We have a meeting this Thursday.
What do people do when they don’t have time to punch this Pillsbury doughboy of a system?

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
