This is simply an astounding performance on the part of each individual involved.
When they frequently discuss the fact that boys are novice swimmers/divers, I am always brought to the thought that their survival, one by one, is dependent on each boy’s choice to trust the specific diver who takes responsibility for them through the process.
I can only try to imagine the specific instructions that each boy is given as they prepare to begin the process: with eye contact, very brief, specific instructions/reminders given, and somewhere in the midst of it – the foundational assurance, “I will be right there. I will not leave you.”
Puts me near tears to just consider what is required of each one.
