UPDATE! VIDEO ADDED.
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he will retire, letting President Donald Trump nominate a successor who could create the most conservative court in generations and put the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion-rights ruling at risk, Bloomberg News reports.
The court said Wednesday he will retire effective July 31.
Kennedy, an 81-year-old Ronald Reagan appointee, has been the court’s pivotal vote for the last decade, joining liberal justices to legalize gay marriage and voting with conservatives to throw out campaign-finance restrictions.
“For a member of the legal profession it is the highest on honors to serve on this court,” he wrote. “Please permit me by this letter to express my profound gratitude for having had the privilege to seek in each case how best to know, interpret and defend the Constitution and the laws that must always conform to its mandates and promises.”
Former President Ronald Reagan nominated Anthony Kennedy to the high court in 1987. He was sworn in on Feb. 18, 1988.

Statement from the White House:
THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 27, 2018
Statement on Justice Anthony M. Kennedy
Today, we thank Justice Anthony M. Kennedy for his thirty years of distinguished service on the Supreme Court of the United States. In 1987, President Reagan nominated him to the Court, and he was swiftly confirmed without opposition. A Californian—like the President who appointed him—Justice Kennedy is a true man of letters. During his tenure on the Court, he authored landmark opinions in every significant area of constitutional law, most notably on equal protection under the law, the separation of powers, and the First Amendment’s guarantees of freedom of speech and religion.
Justice Kennedy has been a tireless voice for individual rights and the Founders’ enduring vision of limited government. His words have left an indelible mark not only on this generation, but on the fabric of American history.

Is Ted Cruz yelping, rolling on the ground and begging yet?
President Trump said he expects to choose from the same pool he chose Justice Gorsuch from 👍🏽.

Is Ginsburg ever going to retire?

They will probably have to carry her out. She’s been there about 20 years now.

As liberal as she is, I would have thought she would have retired when Obama was in office, thus guaranteeing another justice of her ilk. She must not be as dedicated to the cause as she is to herself. Or she thinks she’s never going to die.

Nope, no contingency plan for a Trump presidency, the old bat was gonna retire under the first female president imagine that would have been quite a carnival Hillary replacing Ginsburg.
Sucks to be losers 😀.

Nope, she’s just gonna shrivel up and become an ol’ rotten raisin on the bench or she’ll fall over dead one day and aim her body at Clarence Thomas hoping to impale him with one of her ribs.

A few days ago, either here or next door, I’d posted that one or more of the superannuated justices should retire so that instead of waiting for one or more of the walking dead justices to go to courtroom temp. Well lo and behold my wish came true – there probably goes my ‘win the lottery’ wish but that’s OK.
Czarina left my truck radio on NPR and as I was about to change channels they announced it. They must have needed a mop in the control room as the crying and pee-peeing by the mouthpieces of the Left was awesome. There couldn’t have been more wailing had Bernie Sanders, Hillary and Bill, Nancy Pelosi and Schumer all have met theior maker in one huge Left-lane crash. They went on for hours about how the most evil president since….oh, Ronald Reagan…now has the chance to ruin Western civilization for decades to come.
My lord, you’d have thunk from the NPR reaction they’d have asked NPR to play music working people actually listen to. They were dragging in people off the street to bash anyone Trump even remotely might recommend, thery were so eshocked that they didn’t even dare comment on the possibility he might get a 3rd chance too.

Now the complaining about how the vote shouldn’t take place until after the election. McConnell is thumbing his nose.
