St. Theresa of Ávila was on her way to found a new convent, she was riding in a horse drawn carriage which flipped over and she found herself thrown from the carriage and covered in mud, the carriage of course stuck on its side, so she got on her cell phone and call Triple A, (No wait this was about 500 years ago), anyhow she exclaimed to God, “If this is how you treat your friends no wonder you have so few.”
Theresa of course did many wonderful, beautiful things for God and his flock, one of the things that allowed her to make such sacrifices and lead such a dedicated life is that she never lost her sense of humor nor was she severe with herself for her own humanity.
I remember that when I get to feeling scrupulous over morals, we are called to love, if we love the other things fall into place. Of course Love as defined by Christ not by Liberals.
Oh, and Teresa loved chocolate 🙂 !

It’s raining in the Idaho Panhandle, too, and quite cool out. But we definitely need the rain. Hope you had a great time visiting your family. What a blessing to still have them physically present with you!

I remember when we moved to West Palm in the early 50s, a lot of it looked as it did in these pictures. I have a friend there who says I wouldn’t recognize it now – even when I watch COPS and they have an episode done in West Palm I recognize the street names but have to strain hard to find anything else that’s even vaguely familiar.

That’s similar to when I moved to Los Angeles in 1963. There were actually vacant lots on one of the main drags, Wilshire Boulevard, which goes west from downtown to the ocean in Santa Monica. So many buildings have been torn down and replaced with modern nonentities. I walked all over much of that city–downtown, the west side, Hollywood, and north into The Valley. The south side and east side even then you didn’t walk around in but there were plenty of good restaurants and clubs to drive to. It was such a great and exciting city in the 60s and 70s.

I vividly remember the blue fish that would school into the Intercoastal in huge masses, sometimes you’s see large barracuda and sharks following them. There were rocks along the sea wall and workers would have to go down and shovel fish that had been scared out of the water and onto the rocks back into the water. Now littles comes into the Intercoastal as it’s an urban sewer.
ghere werre also docks right downtown where medium-sized boats would tsake you out on ‘jungle’ tours to forested areas north of West Palm where now only endless groves oif hotels, timeshares and coindos grow.

I’ll never forget ow as teenagers my cousin and I used to giggle at my moms smock type bathing suit. One day in the not so recent past my cousin called me and said “I’m at Walmart and guess what I have in my cart! A smock bathing suit!!!” 😀

One of my best friends had a knit bikini. It looked so gorgeous on her. However, when she went in the water, she had to hold the top with one hand and the bottom with the other hand to keep them from falling off because they stretched when wet. LOL

As extra bonuses, a sanctuary for birds of prey is shown, plus Owlpen Manor–a Cotswold Tudor home restored by the present owners after 100 years of disrepair.

OMG I am watching FOX and FRIENDS and it is really exciting this morning. So much going on. They showed Kim Jung Un in Singapore and I think it is his security detail looks nearly hysterical because of all the cameras and people milling around. Our SS isn’t there yet, but when we see them, they usually look serious. But, these guys look overwhelmed.
I also watched an interview of a psychotherapist (a never-Trumper liberal, obviously) and the guy interviewing her, kept stopping her and correcting what she was saying. She was talking like President Trump has already been found guilty and that all the female complaints against him are absolutely true. He threw P. Clinton back in her face on that one. That threw her completely off. LOL

It took me until today to gather the courage to read Charles Krauthammer’s farewell letter.
I have long admired him, his mind, his writing, his will, his wit, his deadpan crushing responses to liberals, I disagree whole heartedly with his anti-Trump nonsense and I was thoroughly disappointed by it, but I never lost respect for the voice he once brought to common sense conservatism or his indomitable will to live and thrive.
If you’ve ever listens to Kraut talk about his accident, he didn’t thrive “in spite of” or “because of” he did so because it was his life, like proceeding at a green light or stopping at a red light. It is his life, simple as that.
He wrote beautifully and convincingly and I never grew tired of looking up a word while reading one of his columns.
Lastly, I thank my colleagues, my readers, and my viewers, who have made my career possible and given consequence to my life’s work. I believe that the pursuit of truth and right ideas through honest debate and rigorous argument is a noble undertaking. I am grateful to have played a small role in the conversations that have helped guide this extraordinary nation’s destiny.
I leave this life with no regrets. It was a wonderful life — full and complete with the great loves and great endeavors that make it worth living. I am sad to leave, but I leave with the knowledge that I lived the life that I intended.
How extraordinary beautiful and rare to leave this world knowing that your life’s work had consequence, how beautiful to see his gratitude for his “small role”

I knew his letter would be hard to read, I knew he would face his death as he faced his life, matter of fact, it is what it is. I do not believe he knows how extraordinary this particular grace is in which he views the world.

Sobering farewell letter. And it was his public farewell. I like that he did not mention his wife and son but instead kept that where it belongs, between those he loves most in his life.
Something I respected about David Bowie was he did not make a grandstand of his going out, he simply left.
Unlike that bastard John McCain who will probably use his last bitter breath to attack America, Americans or President Trump, the true sign of a life ill spent and lived in vain, no peace in the end just anger.

LOL I went to Home Depot last evening and got a new microwave to replace the one that died. It evidently is much stronger than the last one was. I made popcorn and usually it takes 4 minutes. So, being cautious, I put it in for 3 1/2 min. Picture a bowl of mini charcoal briquettes. I am surprised the popcorn didn’t actually catch on fire. So I tried for 2 min and took it out before the time was up. Then, this morning I cooked the bacon which has been taking 2 1/2 min and put it in for 1 min and it burned a little bit. 😯
I should have waited on this breakfast. It isn’t burned. LOL Mornin’ Nyet, everyone. 🙂

President Trump is a warrior, no doubt about it, I just listened to the second half of his Al Smith Dinner speech and he exemplifies both quotes in his speech. He has Hillary laughing her horse mouth off then goes in for the kill where Hillary is clearly enraged and Dolan is sweating bullets.

She’s really clingy, sleeps curled up in his old spot on my chair with me every chance. As I said, she also goes over to where he’s buried and just stands next to his grave. I think it’s that she can smell him where he laid in the side while I dug the grave and she can’t understand what’s going on.

Not a hard situation to fight, first the Usual Suspects will say they turned the records over and they disappeared after they handed themover – they’ll argue that until it wears thin. They can argue that Trump had people remove the files as they could have helped prove the allegations against the Obamas/Clintons are pure fabrications. They can argue that the dog ate ’em.
The Clintons and Obamas are surrounded by loyalists who’ll not only do crimes for them but take the heat…or the documents… if the need be. Sandy Berger was caught playing fast and loose with records in the National Archive but who knows who else has and hasn’t been caught?

Hi Lucille, I’m replying to you over here rather than over there because I am not interested in the folks over there misconstruing my words. I am in agreement with you 🙂 .
Prior to his giving his life to God, St. Augustine lead a debauched lifestyle about which he later wrote: ““From a perverted act of will, desire had grown, and when desire is given satisfaction, habit is forged; and when habit passes unresisted, a compulsive urge sets in.” He understood addiction.
As far as history has recorded Augustine had only 2 sexual relationships in his life time. One was a long affair from which a child was born, a son named Adeodatus, Augustine cared for and loved Adeodatus and raised him on his own when Adeodatus’ mother left Augustine to join a monastery.
I always feel a bit defensive of St. Augustine because he was not sleeping with dozens of women as many people seem to believe, I’m not suggesting that you believe he was Bill Clintoning through the fourth century. Many Catholics have a misperception of Augustine pre-conversion because he was his own harshest critic and because of his mother St. Monica’s lamentations and prayers.
Augustine and his son were baptized together. A year later Adeodatus died.

St. Augustine knew his heart. He knew that even though he may have had one-two-three actual physical relationships in his life, the lusts of the mind also haunted him. IMO, that’s what he is referencing a lot in CONFESSIONS. He wanted his heart to be completely reliant on the purity of Christ.
He knew in his previous life he had not loved as God wishes us to love. He carried the sin of pride in his abilities, his reasonings.
After his conversion, he had to learn to give God all the praise for his gifts. His daily task was to allow God to do the changing of his attitudes, his thoughts–the renewing of his mind–because he knew that at any moment there was the potential to start wanting to do it all on his own again.
I think that Monica prayed just a tad in a state of guilt about how she allowed Augustine to follow his father’s moral lead rather than hers. She blamed herself. Not to say at all that her prayers were not sincere or that she did not have a Godly desire to see her son become the man of God she envisioned. God answered her faithful prayers just as he answers ours.
St. Augustine is simply one of my favorite people who ever lived. The fact that he wrote CONFESSIONS at all is almost miraculous. Who wants to have everyone know all your sins and guilts? But God encouraged him and he laid embarrassment aside because he knew that he was writing for all who suffered under the burden of sin and wanted to lead them to the One who could make them whole.
I’m looking forward to–as I’m sure you are, too–one day seeing him along with all the others who are redeemed by the Grace of God. What a glorious day that will be!

It is a mystery to me why Monica married an unbeliever, perhaps she wasn’t strong in her faith when they married? Perhaps she thought she would convert him as she was madly in love? Perhaps an arranged marriage. I really don’t know.
And I agree St. Augustine knew his heart, I just think many Catholics and others are under a misperception about his physical dalliances.
I’m a convert to catholicism and I was shocked to find out that St. Augustine was a responsible loving father and only had two lovers.
My favorite saint is perhaps St. John Vianey. I don’t know. Or Montfort, or The Little Flower, the list goes on. One of my favorite books is The Curé D’ars St. Jean- Marie-Baptiste Vianney, by Abbé Francis Trochu.
