Kiddo had his preschool “graduation” today but 3 days left to attend. His gift was that he decided to sing the songs and wear the props instead of standing up with his hands on his ears. All but the last song. It was nice. I gave him a couple balloons and chikfila. Fair trade!

He is eating better. Enough that I notice a change in behavior. I have to make him stop playing and remind him to eat, but thats not unusual for kids. I dont have a scale so I cant quite tell if he is gaining but he isnt losing either. Maybe all the summer heat will make him grow like a bean stalk!

Three sons, three grand children, three great gandkids and I still sweat the ‘eating’ part. GGS is a carb eater, he’ll eat carbs 24/7 if we’d let him, so we’ve developed novel ways of sneaking dairy and protein into his feed.
He’s growing but even though his dad’s 6’1″ nhis grandmom’s a shortie so we’re pushing for at least 5’10” on him. The blong hair, blue bedroom eyes and 6″ eyelashes will carry him so far but he’s gonna need some bulk for those jealous boyfriend bar fights.

According to all the dr.’s, kiddo is supposed to be 6’2 at 18. Due to illness hes lagging a bit and catching up on good sleep so he can shoot on up. He takes so long to eat though! Unless he gets See’s chocolates….gone before he knows he ate it. Kinda like my beagles.

GGS is in the 90th percentile for his age group and is growing but we’ll have to see what happoens when he hits 14 or 15. He’s not going to be a yard gnome but I’d like him to be as tall as his grandpa.

I was the second tallest student in my 6th grade class. I, too, ended up at 5’4″. Both grandmothers were 5′ or under. My mother was 5’2″ and my sister is about 4’11”.

Today’s state flower is the Florida Orange Blossom!
The Florida legislature designated the orange blossom as the state flower in 1909. The orange is also the official state fruit & orange juice is the state beverage. Oranges & Magnolia are in the same taxonomical Class – Magnoliopsida. The orange tree is actually an evergreen, originally from Southeast Asia, that can reach a height of between 20 & 30 feet. The full sun, sandy soil & rainfall of Florida causes the tree to thrive. Oranges originated in China & were introduced to Florida by 16th century Spanish explorers. Florida’s subtropical climate & sandy soils proved to be ideal for cultivating citrus, & before long seedlings had escaped from cultivation & become naturalized in the wild.
By the 19th century, citrus was being grown throughout Florida as well as in Georgia & South Carolina. A devastating freeze in 1835 & another in 1894-1895 knocked out most of the more northern citrus orchards. Since then commercial production in Florida has shifted to the central & southern parts of the state. Florida provides about 60 percent of the country’s citrus, amounting to about $1 billion in annual sales. When it comes to annual orange production, Florida has long significantly outgrown it’s competitors. However according to the latest forecasts, Florida might have to share the top spot with California in 2018. Florida orange production has decreased from a high of 224 million boxes of fruit per year in the 1990’s to 69 million boxes in 2017, with the 2018 estimate to be 45 million boxes. The decrease is due to the The Asian citrus psyllid which causes greening or huanglongbing (HLB) which came into Florida in 1998 (HLB makes the oranges useless for consumption). Symptoms of HLB may not show up in the tree until 1 to 2 years after it becomes infected. Within 3 to 5 years after HLB infection, the tree stops bearing fruit & eventually dies. Also more recently Hurricane Irma has caused fruit tree damage. (The Asian citrus psyllid has now been found in Louisiana, Georgia, Arizona, South Carolina, Texas, & California, coming into San Diego from Mexico).
The Orange blossom blooms in clusters of 1-6 during spring & results in oranges the following autumn or winter. The snow-white star shaped flowers with their five thick, waxy petals fill the air with their sweet fragrance during the spring blossom. Last year’s oranges often are still on the trees when the new orange blossoms are blooming. I put the 2 pictures together below for those of us who have never seen an orange tree. 🙂
Florida’s state flower also heralds a time of celebration. The tiny town of Davie celebrates the arrival of the blossoms with a three-day music event & rodeo known as the Orange Blossom Festival. Between 1925 & 1953 the ‘Orange Blossom Special’, a train from New York named in honor of the fruity flower, brought holiday-makers from the Big Apple in search of Florida sunshine. This state flower has been associated with good fortune, health, & fertility as far back as the Victorian era when the garlands, bouquets, & veils of brides were intertwined with these fragrant blossoms, & the practice continues to this day. Products from the flowers include an oil used in cleaners, aromatherapy, perfumes, & health & beauty products. Orange blossom honey has a delicious, mild, orange flavor. The petals from the orange blossoms are often made into an orange version of rose water.
I liked the below left painting by Australian artist Michael Zavros because it was so vertical with the graceful curve of peel reflected in the bowl. It did not showcase the flowers however, so I also included the below right oil painting full of blossoms & light by British artist Marianne North.

My mother’s favorite thing about Miami was “dooryard oranges” which meant people had orange trees in their own yards, ready for picking fresh to eat right there. Many housing developments & trailer parks were placed in former groves, with select trees removed to build, but the others remaining. Also mango, avocado & other citrus fruit groves.

Where my mom lived they had a huge grapefruit tree, a juice orange tree and a lemon tree. It was wonderful.

Our avocado tree died 3 years ago. It was pretty old and just couldnt produce any more. But what a lucky thing to have multi dozens of avocados just outside. We have a meyer lemon but I cant keep up with the juicing and storing it. Meyers arent so tart like a true lemon so its an acquired flavor.

Czarina and I still joke about how, back in the 50s, the 5&10 stores in Florida would have tray upon tray of ‘orange blossum perfume’ for sale. The stuff reeked, young girls and tourists liked it and…well…the stuff reeked.

I was very verbose at that age, though not that wise. If I had had the wisdom, too, I would have wrote (impeccably printed) “Get up and deal with it. If it’s bleeding profusely, ask the playground monitor for a bandage, and go back to the playground. And don’t kill Tommy. Or Trayshawn Leroy Jenkins or little Domingo Santeriea Los Angeles Del La Muerta, for that matter. Just make him never want to do that, ever again. Find a way.

Yep. Make them not want to ever do that again. If possible, make them incapable of ever doing that again. Or go full knees to testes. Which further makes them incapable of ever having kids, to teach to do that like they did.
I wish sometimes that I had had these lessons when I was a kid in a mostly black screwel district. I didn’t “deal with it.” like I should have. That’s why it continued. That’s why blacks forced most of the whites out of our town, in only 50 years.
SW MI were cucks in the late 60s. Come on in! Take our fifth of the state! We will enjoy watching you defile our wife. Then we doubled down in los 2000s. Then we doubled down again in the 2010s. Love those burquas. Damn, she’s cute! Well, she might be. Im’a go buy a Lottery scratch ticket instead, because, who knows? Maybe my new scratch ticket will be pretty, too!

…our town that my Great Grandparents and their families lived in and built.
White people are anathema and outcast where I grew up, now. Where my great grandfather grew up. It’s why my dad got us out of there. It’s a cancer, the progressive experiment.
It’s amazing what one little tiny, almost covert country town has in it for history’s sake.
I’m so grateful that my public schooling ended just before the mass-drugging started. I wish it had started a little later, maybe one or two years, because I might be talking to my brother right now, instead of visiting his grave.
Me and my dad’s best Morel Mushroom hunting spot became a sand-mine, when the land was bought, probably by an iron foundry. After they struck water (of course, we’re kinda at Lake Michigan level), it became a nice gated community with a few dozen McHouses and McMansions. I never thought that backwater would ever develop, but it did. That piece of land supplied us with Morel-fu, then became a source for much-needed sand, then became home to several dozen families, who live among lakes that used to be sand-mines, that used to be my Morel woods. That piece of land has, thus far, served three distinct and important services. Besides, you gotta go up to Allegan for the Morel invasion.
I wish I knew my backyard even better. I don’t even want to go elsewhere.

Great kid. Great parents. When I was in first grade I fell on the school playground during recess and was bleeding so I walked home to tell my mom 😜. Apparently none of the monitors saw me leave, my mom called the school, (she didn’t freak out) to let them know I was home and life went on.
I was always an odd independent kid, my mom walked me to the first day of kindergarten and I told her that I was good to go and didn’t need her to walk me any more. Of course school was only 3 blocks away but imagine a kid doing that today.

Too many crazy people, and the supervisors can barely be trusted either. I was sick and went to lay down in the school nursery. When I woke up it was 630 pm. They had forgotten me. Luckily it was a church and school. There was some church event going on and the office was open. No one called the police. I had to explain repeatedly who I was to use the phone. No one lost their job either. Imagine now…

In kindergaten we were playing a game “Mama Kitty where have your kittens gone?” I was a kitten and I hid outside of the room. No one noticed after about 20 minutes I went back to the room and again no one noticed 🙃.

I look forward to the day when there are no more public schools. No more prison-from-K-12. No more forced surrogate parentage by the State and the Fed. It’s no different than prison or the military.

OMG I would NEVER have even considered such a thing. The reception I would have gotten at home would have been ten times worse than anything that could have been happening in school. And, the worst part would have been that Mama never forgot anything or quit talking about it, or should I say throwing it back in my face.

When my older sister was in kindergarten (1944), her teacher sent her home because she didn’t have a note from Mom saying that her absence was justified after Sis had been out with a cold. The teacher didn’t have anyone call Mom to come pick her up or bring a note in. Instead, the teacher sent a five-year-old to walk alone across two large highways in an area she’d only traversed when Mom walked her (with me tagging along) to school each day (Dad using the only car to get to his job building ships in the war industry).
Mom heard a child crying, and my sister was found sitting on the back step with a note attached to her sweater saying what the problem was. Sis, of course, thought she’d done something wrong and was sent home for it.
Well, Mom was a tiger when it came to her children. She called the school and politely read them the riot act. Since kindergarten wasn’t mandatory, Mom then said she would not be sending Sis back to kindergarten at all, let alone with a note from her, as the teacher and the school were irresponsible and she could not trust them to do the right thing.
So, the rest of the school year, Mom set up a school for Sis and me where we learned the alphabet and practiced penmanship plus how to count, and listened to stories. By the time I entered kindergarten two years later, I already knew how to read and write thanks to my dearest mother.

After the war, our family moved to the San Bernardino County countryside where we remained until 1963 when my sister married and I moved to downtown Los Angeles.

I wonder how many of those people did not have their own wedding finery & could not have afforded those large bouquets, so the photographer provided the option of renting his for the picture. Seems like a way to remember your ceremony when a lot of money was not best spent on such one time uses. Remember the purpose of having a white wedding dress was to show the father of the bride was rich enough to pay for a dress which would only be worn once. (Not to mention the hideous bridesmaids dresses!). (Which are still a tradition!!!)

I was a bridesmaid a couple of times. One sister in law chose a lovely pattern for a summer dress we all had made in a pretty yellow summer cloth. Another made us by strapless long pepto bismal pink gowns that we had to pay over three hundred dollars for. My other sister in law threw hers in the trash can at the reception, and I gave mine away immediately. There was a snafu with the film being lost at the developers (yep, it was that long ago) and they wanted to restage the pics. New SIL was unhappy with the two of us. We did not care. That was a bunch of money back then, and I’ve never seen uglier dresses.

When I married the first time, I was 20 and I made my wedding dress and all four bridesmaid dresses. I just can’t imagine spending the kind of money it takes to be a bridesmaid now. Wouldn’t do it.

My mother made my dress, I had one attendant, who wore a dress she already owned, and we restricted our guests to immediate family and attendants (one each). We had the reception at my parents’ home. My veil was borrowed from my cousin.

Good day, Nyet! If you have some salt-less spices for the scrambled eggs, I’ll take those and a few pancakes with some low-fat vegetable oil spread…which sounds so unappetizing that maybe I’ll skip brunch today.

Later today or tomorrow I will be writing a letter and emailing it to President Trump, Vice President Pence, (ack puke Tammy Baldwin), Ron Johnson, and Jim Sensenbrenner demanding that WI be made a Sanctuary State for the unborn.
If Federal Law is optional for cities and states that want to declare themselves Sanctuary Cities for illegals then Federal Law is optional for states that want to declare themselves Sanctuary Cities for the unborn.
I have reached the tipping point. I am going to fight harder, better, stronger and attack liberals with their own tactics.
I’m going to make a form letter where folks can fill in their own State and US representatives if anyone wants a copy.
Let’s rip them out of their trenches and throw them to the sharks, baby killing MS 13 protecting filth.

Please make your own judgements about it as I am unfamiliar with the site, but may be good food for thought in what you are proposing.

I had lunch with a conservative friend yesterday who has been talking to her liberal sister and other relatives. She said she had to agree with gun control because people shouldn’t be having AK 47 assault rifles. I had to explain to her that they don’t know what they are talking about. That they want to ban the AR 14 or 15 rifles and they aren’t actually assault rifles. I just can’t believe all the fake news they are basing their beliefs on.

Thank G-D&Country I’m in WI, gun laws in IL are among the most draconian in the union. Chicago is a sanctuary city 🙄. A friend of mine just bought her first gun it is going to cost her about $2,000.00 to get her CCP. And then she is going to have to be knowledgable of all kinds of traps.

Use real mail, and stationery, and a postage stamp.
A formal letter will more likely be read and kept than an E-mail. Especially if hand-written.
Far more likely, as nobody writes and mails letters any more.
I would rather have a letter than an E-mail. A letter is real, and concrete. You can’t wave an e-mail in someone’s face.

One would think that with emails dropping the numbers of snail mails in transit that snail mail speeds would pick up. Just yesterday I received a card postmarked in Dallas on the 30th.

UPS and FedEX should just replace the USPS, which is an inefficent tragedy, and a propped-up relic.
And I love our mailpersons in this town. Known them all for many years. At the end of this season, driving their weird little mail trucks with the driver’s side on the right, they will all still be wearing shorts, while it’s snowing.
They don’t need to be working for the government, though. They’re couriers.

UPS and FedEx have agreements with USPS and they frequently work together. I think a good part of the USPS problem is they’re a government chimera that’s taken on the aroma of a civilian agency while still retaing much of the substance of a government compost pile.

This is the America we live in now. You can get fired for saying that pride is a sin. It’s the original sin, no? Especially for saying that pride in particular sinning is a sin. “How dare you not validate and even celebrate my sins, which I am proud of!?”

In addition to not supporting anti-Christian organizations that celebrate sin, Christians also must stop offering toleration in the workplace that they are no longer shown. Remember, the new standards is whether the statements made by an employee reflect the views of the employer or not. That means it is perfectly acceptable to fire anyone who states that sin is okay, that Jesus Christ never existed, or that Donald Trump should be impeached.

Pride has a deeper and older yet meaning. When Lucifer declared “I will not serve” he set the standard. Then Adam and Eve, in choosing to defy God and eat the apple, committed the sin of pride in choosing for themselves God alone’s prerogative of defining what is right and wrong.

I wonder. If I had an actual phobia, say, like arachnophobia. Which I do. And if I owned and operated a cake shoppe, and baked and decorated cakes for customers. Would I be required by law to make a giant, realistic-looking spider cake if a customer asked me to?
I wonder what would happen if I went into a gay bakery and asked them to create for me an AR-15 cake, with “Make America Great Again” on the stock. Could I say “You have to do it. It’s the law.”?

Yushan National Park, Taiwan
