After a long fight in Congress, the able Mr. Pompeo has been allowed to take his official position as Secretary of State.

He delayed his arrival at State Department HQ after his confirmation so he could fly to Brussels to attend a foreign ministers’ meeting at NATO headquarters and make visits to Saudi Arabia, Israel and Jordan. As we all know, he traveled to North Korea to meet with Kim Jong Un even before he was confirmed for the position.

When Mr. Pompeo arrived at the State Department yesterday, Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan introduced Pompeo by calling him “a cross between George Patton and Oliver Wendell Holmes”, referring to his military background as an army tank commander and a graduate of Harvard Law School.
