    Years ago I was able to read a few of the letters my husband’s grandfather, who was in the military, wrote to his grandmother. They were not married at the time. In a language most kids would absolutely laugh at today, from a man who was a carpenter, not educated beyond high school, he expressed his earnest desire to court her when he returned home.

    He went to great lengths to express his admiration, not as much for her beauty as her character and virtue, and her faith. He poignantly wrote that he hoped just to be allowed to see her again, to allow her to judge him worthy to further spend time together, and get to know each other.

    The time period was supposedly during or after World War I. You betcha it was a different world, and we are not better off in relations between the sexes, and family life.

    We were better off when young ladies were that worthy of the esteem and cautious approach of a young man hoping to recommend himself to her. We were better off when those young men were that admiring and respectful of a virtuous woman.

    And, in my opinion, women were in charge of a large part of that society, holding a good deal of the power. They say women had no rights back then, and I am not blind or stupid. It isn’t a world I want to go back to, and we have made great strides as a society. But I say that women choosing to leave virtue and chastity behind for “freedom” and fun was neither wise nor, in the end, the best choice individually or for society.

    Had women not made the choices they did, they might be getting letters like my husband’s grandmother did early last century. And they would be worthy of that kind of respect and admiration and treasuring, as she was. Instead they “hook up” without even a date.

    Our young women, in choosing sexual freedom, have chosen to publicly and proudly debase themselves. They throw pearls of great price into the mud and muck, never even having known what they might have had.

    We slaughter our unborn and half our society considers that not only a right, but a good thing for women, that we can do that.

    I’d like to think of my granddaughters being treated the way their great great grandmother was. Instead I think about how I can influence them to slam a locker door into a young thug trying to get them to meet him for a hook up. I think about how I can help teach them how much worth they have, how bright and beautiful and worthy they are, and how it won’t matter at all if they don’t see and treasure it first.

      Menagerie, what my 60s generation lost sight of was the importance of real love and devotion and the effect this blindness would have on our emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological well-being. We certainly didn’t start the movement toward immorality (if it feels good, do it) and away from God. That has been with us since Adam and Eve. But a goodly percentage of us didn’t do anything to stop its taking over, either.

      What does this corruption of God’s gift to men and women lead to? Rejection. Doesn’t matter who does the rejecting, you or your partner(s). Our minds read it as one giant lumping together of using others, rejecting, being rejected resulting in unhappiness. And it all could have been avoided if we’d truly listened to God’s call on our lives.

      The youth of today will find this out, too. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

      NOT gonna like it. Sorry letenmaus. You sure made me stop the whining about our freeze warnings coming up.

      My woods are full of dogwoods in bloom, I found some wild growing azalea bushes we didn’t even know about. I took a stroll around two days ago just looking at the splendor. And yesterday we were sitting in a fog cloud most of the day, soft rain falling.

      All in all, I have nothing to whine about.

          I sure envy you the tulips. I’m thinking of getting a big pot of them and putting them right out in the middle of the minute area where the sun shines here. I see pots of them, but I don’t know if you can keep them in pots. I would so hate to kill them.

          Only thing I have managed to keep alive here are ferns I hang on the porches, and I don’t think I’m going to mess with them this year.

    In case anybody is interested, the new Trading Spaces is starting tonight on TLC. They are running the old shows all afternoon and then from 6:00 to 8:00 Eastern there is a Trading Spaces: Countdown to the New Season. The Premier starts at 8:00. I really enjoyed the show until they fired Paige, then I started losing interest. But, she is back with them. The whole crew seems to be there.

      Oh, dear. I was going to record the old Trading Spaces shows this afternoon and had forgotten how much I liked them and can’t seem to tear myself away now. 🙄 On the other hand, I had forgotten how much I disliked Hildy because she destroys people’s walls doing something really weird. And, I saw a show where she was interviewed in her own home that was all in chrome, mirrors, and white. And, she puts these ridiculous colors, bright red and yellow, etc. in these people’s homes.

    Anthony Borges is the 17 year old Venezuelan who saved multiple lives in Parkland by using his own body as a shield to block a door as he himself absorbed 5 bullets. Borges’ actions stopped the mentally ill mass killer Nikolas Cruz from entering a room and killing more students.

    Borges through his attorney is laying the deaths and injuries of his classmates and teachers at feet of Sheriff Scott Israel and the Promise Program.

    Parkland shooting hero blames sheriff and superintendent for failing to prevent massacre

    A student who was gravely wounded after being shot five times while shielding classmates during the Florida high school shooting in February criticized the county sheriff and school superintendent Friday saying they failed the victims by not arresting the shooter before the massacre.

    Runcie and Israel “failed us students, teachers and parents alike on so many levels,” Arreaza read for Borges, who sat next to his father, Roger. “I want all of us to move forward to end the environment that allowed people like Nikolas Cruz to fall through the cracks. You knew he was a problem years ago and you did nothing. He should have never been in school with us.”

    Arreaza said that although Borges’ father, a maintenance worker, appreciates that people consider his son a hero for protecting classmates, he believes such talk detracts from the serious message that action must be taken to stop school shootings.

    Borges is suing Cruz, the estate of his mother, the family which Cruz was living with before the deadly rampage.

    There is a 6 month grace period in which the school district, school, Sheriff Israel and the Broward County Sheriff’s Department can not be sued. I expect Borges to file a multi million dollar suit in August.

    I expect a class action suit to be filed in August also by multiple students and their families.

    Many anti-gun warrior children/activists/puppets have painted themselves into a very nasty corner, it is hard to be credible and blame the lack of action of those who really allowed this environment to create a killing field on February 14th 2018, when all you have done is say that the only thing that could have prevented the slaughtered is gun laws that are not yet on the books.

    Bravo Borges!

      I am pretty tired of this “sue the family he lived with” bs, tbh. The family tried to do a good deed to help someone who had nowhere to go. I don’t fault then for that.

      And as sundance pretty conclusively proved, this is the fault of the school district, who could have intervened but did not.

        Hi Rhea, I don’t mean this to be a curt reply but it is dry so I’m afraid it might come across that way, nothing snippy is meant in my reply, I’m just reiterating the facts as I know them.

        Borges has a very astute attorney. It always comes down to one or two things very astute legal representation and/or an activist jury.

        That Borjes is suing the family with which Cruz was staying is good attorney work. As to the estate suit, Borges will likely win the inheritance of Cruz.

        The court must lawfully ask when the suit against Sheriff Israel, Broward County Sheriff Department, the School district and the particular school is filed, is there any other party which bears a percentage of the responsibility, Borjes’ attorney will have an answer to that question, an answer decided by the court, that is why the attorney rightfully has included the family in whose home Cruz was staying in after his mother died.

        I don’t know what sundance proved or didn’t prove, but he didn’t prove conclusively that the entire fault for this horror sits on the back of the school district because legally and morally it does not. It is the school district and the sheriff’s department that dropped the ball. It is a simple deduction. It is certainly not solely the fault of the school district it is also the fault of Sheriff Israel and his department. More generally it is the fault of the Promise program. But the court will ask, what are the variables at this school from the schools that have also implemented the Promise Program with success. It does’t matter that the success of the Promise Program is smoke and mirrors, what does matter is what can be presented in court on paper, in other words data from school districts participating in the Promise Program will show that there is less illegal activity recorded in them than was previously recorded in the school district by school children before the program began.

        What matters is what each side can legally present before the court. what is admissible before the judge?

        The school district is at fault.

        The promise Program is at fault.

        Cruz should have been medicated and or committed long ago. The Sheriff’s department had a greater chance to set those wheels into motion than did the school district.

        The sheriff’s department should have arrested Cruz, long ago.

        Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School had armed guards, they had Cruz on a watch list, but they swept criminal behavior under the carpet for dollars. They swept death threats and a disturbed individuals behavior under the carpet for dollars. That individual who they protected from his own actions then went on to slaughter 17 innocents. that is where the story began and ended then the school district would be solely at fault but that is only one piece of the puzzle, the armed guards who stood down and allowed Cruz to continue on his killing spree, belonged to Sheriff Israel’s department. Sheriff Israel is lawfully responsible for those deputies. Sheriff Israel and his department is also guilty of malicious negligence in not acting on the multiple calls they received and the clear threat that Nikolas Cruz presented.

        Sheriff Israel’s defense has so far been that Nikolas Cruz’s threats were not credible, therefore Sheriff Israel and his department acting lawfully.

        What is the barometer we can use to find out if Israel’s assessments of the risk Cruz presented to the community was a reasonable assessment that another sheriff would have made?

        Did Cruz have opportunity? Yes.

        Did Cruz have means? Yes.

        Was Cruz clearly being satirical? No.

        Are there 17 dead human beings ? Yes.

        The reasonable man would have deemed Cuz’s threats valid.

        The school deemed Cruz’s threats valid as did his schoolmates.

        Even the woman who Cruz lived with before she threw him out because of the gun deemed Cruz’s threats valid.

        All that said, the family who took Cruz in should not have allowed him to have a gun. Locked in a safe or not. Cruz got the “only” key and he got the gun and he killed 17 people. There is no way that family did not know he was disturbed. Everyone knew he was disturbed.

          Agreed. Whatever happens to the Sheriff, well, I don’t care. I stopped caring when he threw his deputy under the bus to try and deflect blame.

          My issue is that this family tried to do a good thing and help someone who they thought they needed help, and now people are promising that they’re going to get sued. That whole part of it reeks of “no good deed goes unpunished” which irritates me a lot. If I give money to person begging on the street, and they use that money to buy drugs and end up killing themselves with bad drugs, will I get blamed for that now? How about if they give the bad drugs they bought with the money I gave them to someone else? Will I still get sued?

          That’s the issue I have, anyway. I’m not trying to be curt or rude either, lovely, but tht’s the issue I see here.

            And neither the school or sheriff’s department can be sued until August. Borges attorney has stated the intent to sue.

            “The failure of Broward County Public Schools, and of the Principal and School Resource Officer to adequately protect students, and in particular our client, from life-threatening harm were unreasonable, callous and negligent,” Alex Arreaza, his attorney, said in a notice of intent to sue.

            The school more than likely would have prevented the killings if it was not part of the Promise Program. I agree. 100%.

            But.

            Students called the sheriff’s department about Cruz. Neighbors called the sheriff’s department about Cruz. The sheriffs department did nothing.

            The Promise Program neutered both the school and the sheriff. The school put dollars before lives.

            Cruz posted threats online.

            Cruz harmed animals.

            Cruz reported himself to the FBI.

            The sheriff’s office received calls that Cruz could become a school shooter, he abused an ex-girlfriend and fought her new boyfriend.

            There is little chance I’ll be convinced that the family which took Cruz in and allowed him to store guns in their home didn’t know that he was a disturbed young man. They in my opinion did drop the ball. Maybe they were just doing a good deed, I don’t know, whatever their intention turning a blind eye to Cruz’s mental health issues was not a good deed in any way.

            If you give money to a known drug addict yes I would say that you have some responsibility for what that drug addict does with that money. Better to buy him a meal or a coat or shoes. If he trades that for drugs then do you still have a moral responsibility, I guess that is between a person and their conscience.

            From the interview below;

            “Everything people seemed to know, we didn’t know.” “He seemed normal.” ”This wasn’t the person that we knew.

            The only unusual thing about the boring of the shooting that the can recall is that Cruz did not go to school that day. And James deadpans “He said he didn’t go to school on Valentine’s Day” as if that us a reasonable thing for Cruz to assert.

            Eh?

            Another red flag is that James kept talking about how normal Cruz was in their home yet James did not trust Cruz with a key to the safe that his own guns were stored in.

            According to James Cruz only asked twice in 3 months for James to unlock the safe once to clean a gun and James said yes and once he said no but James can’t remember why he said no, if they were sitting down to dinner or getting ready to leave. This seems very odd to me that Cruz would only ask for access to his guns twice in three months.

            This is the first time that I listened to this interview, at one point Kimberly and James said that they never had any qualms about Cruz having guns, previously James also said that he believed that he had the only key to the gun safe yet they then added that Cruz obeyed the rules and never took the guns out of the safe when one of the adults was not home

            Hmmm….

            How would Cruz take the guns out of the safe with a key that the Sneed’s were convinced he didn’t have until the day of the shootings?

            Again all that said the family is very likely not ever going to lose in a civil suit. There are far bigger fish to fry like the school, the district, the sheriff’s office and Sheriff Israel.

            There are a lot of ways this could have been prevented.

            I guess I am simply not surprised that some people partially blame the Sneeds.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

    Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

    Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
    Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

    We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
    Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

    In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
