THAT’S an urban/spoiled cat. Ours would just be sitting back waiting for the possum to finish…”Yu, stuffed possum…”.

Well, now I’m wondering if the full grown whatever that I saw crossing a neighboring street this morning was a possum and not a raccoon. My initial assumption was raccoon, since they are a familiar fixture in this agricultural area, semi-rural edge-of-town setting; but the colors were not the obvious, classical raccoon. Possumbilities? Hmmmmmmmmmm…..

        We have;

A giant raccoon living in the neighborhood. Huge. Really I think it is a mutant.

A dead possum about 2 blocks away from here.

        Lots of very goofy squirrels.

But no skunk so far this year 👍🏽.

I have smelled eau de skunk at night in my neighborhood. Never see them, though (thank heavens).

After our adventure last year with the dead skunk I’ll be happy to not see one this year. I did smell one a few nights back. Gross.

Crossing the road late last night
He shoulda looked & he shoulda looked right
He didn’t see the station wagon car
He got squashed & there you are.

You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
And it’s stinkin to high heaven

Take a whiff on me & hold yer nose
Roll up your window & hold yer nose
You don’t have to look & you don’t have to see
You can tell it in your olfactory.

Yeah you got your dead cat & you got yer dead dog
& on a moonlit night you got your dead toad frog.
You got your dead rabbit & yer dead raccoon
The blood & the guts will make you swoon.

              Come on stink!
              You got it!
              It’s dead
              It’s in the middle
& it’s stinkin to high heaven!
All over the road. Technicolor man!
              You got pollution.
It’s dead. And it’s stinkin to high, high heaven…..

Pretty, pretty kitty at top of page!
Below is “A New Arrival” by Irish artist Walter Frederick Osborne (1859-1903) :

I noticed the girl’s tattered dress, yet she takes in and feeds another. Very touching.

Czarina called…she’s out dealing with patients…she wants me to remind you all it’s not only Caturday, and St Patrick’s Day but the feast day of St Gertrude, patron saint of cats and those afflicted with cats.

    • Tell her thank you from me. Not being Catholic, I’m fascinated with the tales of saints of old times. I reckon they have a Saint for just about everything. Seems very comforting. I love the kitties!

From what I’ve seen saints come and go, 1960s were a particular bad time. I can just imsagine being one of the old-line saints and someone tacking an eviction notice to your cloud…I’m not even sure you get unemployment benefits.
