   A very touching service with a room full of those who sought the Truth and found it. All across Christendom we may have different orders of service, different traditions and practices but the central message is the gospel, and by belief in Christ–in His good news–we are one…

   St. Paul’s First Letter to the Church at Corinth, Chapter 15, verses 1-4 (The VOICE version):

   “Let me remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I preached to you when we first met. It’s the essential message that you have taken to heart, the central story you now base your life on; and through this gospel, you are liberated—unless, of course, your faith has come to nothing. For I passed down to you the crux of it all which I had also received from others, that the Anointed One, the Liberating King, died for our sins and was buried and raised from the dead on the third day. All this happened to fulfill the Scriptures; it was the perfect climax to God’s covenant story.”

   I seldom watch long videos but watched all of this – some of it 2-3 times. So fine.

   Two additional thoughts:

   At the CTH someone posted a link to Billy Graham, Cliff Barrows, and George Beverly Shea singing “This Little Light of Mine” – and it is just beyond the best!

   Second thought – as the funeral service was opening, I was blindsided into tears with the opening song, “Until Then” – I sang that so often over the many years, the first time in public was at my father’s funeral when I was 17. I had sung it for him often during his last weeks – sitting at the piano in the living room (not on the farm – in town at a friend’s house where they needed to be to be close to the little country hospital).

   Tears have been close to the top for me for some days now. Yesterday was four years since Grant left us. …. and they’re not all specifically sad tears – just the deep feelings of life-as-it-is, memories, prayers of gratitude and yearning for heaven and sometimes, frankly, for all of the things we deal with here to be over with.

   But this trio of “This Little Light of Mine” by this blessed men was my primary reason for this note. I’ve listened to it three times already – –

     All three of them gone on Home now – if Grant hears the three of them singing away somewhere, he might get to join them. He had a strong, strong tenor voice and really loved belting it out on simple gospel songs……………

     That video is precious. I know that during the ceremony in the capitol, someone played and sang “Just As I Am”. It brought back so many memories. Music does that. Just takes you right back many years ago.
