When Senior Couple Receives Citation Over Trash-filled Yard, Teens Step in to Help

Nice, but none our neighbors be askin’ “what’s that tractor/broken car/washingmachine/pile o’flamin’ trash doin’ in your yard?”. Then again, no one asks out here, they just ‘do’. We have a big stream that runs under our road and whenever it gets plugged by beavers someone’s usually out there with their backhoe clearing it out. We had a large limb fall into our dtkiveway and as it was an ‘off’ day we didn’t get down the drive to check the mail until after noon but someone that morning saw the limb, got a tractor and moved it. Nice living out in the sticks.

“What’s it doing there? Why, it’s just a sittin’ there. Minding it’s own business.”
:long stare:
I know what you mean, though. Even in SH, and thereabouts, it’s the sticks. Even if it’s downtown. Adversity is what makes you realize that when you’ve been in a place for a decade. There’s a lot of people in this town, county and state with that steel, and that willingness to help people they don’t even know, in even small adversities. Me and a buddy used to drive around in his truck, in the backwoods, in really bad snowstorms, just for fun and to be good neighbors — to pull people out of ditches.
I think Country is more a state of mind than location. Everyone in downtown SH treats everyone else here just like that. Maybe because most of us have kin in the woods, I admit.
People like us are why Trump was elected.

Recently I posted an ANTIQUES ROADSHOW UK which aired their show from the Somme, France. This is a further bit of ARUK about one of the appraisers who appeared in the earlier episode, Paul Atterbury. It’s just a short portion but I think you will find it touching. Begin at 2:28 for Paul’s story….

Husband and wife duo. Such phenomenal skill. They used to be in heavy metal bands.
Then they evolved a bit.

It’s hard to wrap the mind around these two. Listening for years.
Gabriela’s the percussionist with her guitar, and it’s hard to even follow her hands.
Are there any more husband and wife duos that can do this? Serious.

John McVie and Chistine McVie of Fleetwood Mac?
Yep. There are.

At 10:45 or so, he does the Bobby McFerrin thing, and makes the crowd a part of the performance.
It’s astonishing what these two do. No drums. (She takes care of that.) No looping effects, and no effects but Rodrigo’s wah-wah every now and then. Just two people with two guitars, with nylon strings. And that much awesome.

They “cut their teeth” on heavy metal and it clearly shows in the structure, yes the young lady does have an incredible style. If you’d like more of that style, the guitar work in the film August Rush was performed by a young women named Kaki King, she plays an extremely percussive style as well and it’s something to see.

Fantastic, moving film, Gary. Every frame in the movie is about music, and contains music in some fashion. I don’t watch movies very often, but wow, that’s some great filmmaking.
I don’t know why I’ve never heard of this film, but I know. What it’s like to have music in your head, all. the. time.
People ask, what’s your desert island collection? What ten music CDs would you absolutely need to have if you were shipwrecked and landed on a desert island?
I don’t really need any, per se. I have more than enough in my head.

Thanks – more like Katy bar the door. Power is out, roof shingles are flying like a flock of geese (although not in formation).
Good news is that the generator is hooked up and powering necessary equipment. The other good news is that there is no precipitation. The other good news is that no one has been injured.
I called my Uncle in upstate NY this morning – he had had (at around ten) about three feet of snow. So all in all, I’d say we’ve been sorta lucky.
I’m signing off until the real electricity comes back on.
Be safe out there Stellars!

We had some heavy wet snow yesterday and last night, and I expected that the power would go out, but it didn’t, fortunately. Sun is out today, and temps in the high thirties, so some of it is melting. The trees and bushes were loaded and the branches touching the ground.

Power is back on….Yippee! However, the roof has not reassembled itself. Looks like another project looming on the horizon.
At one point this afternoon I went out on the windy side of the house and as I was walking back to a protected area the wind ‘tripped’ me – literally blew me over. I was surprised – have been out in hurricane winds before but never knocked to my knees….
Hope everyone is safely weathering the storm!

I did that once….Guy on a motorcycle tailgated me all the way into the student parking lot and before he had a chance to get his helmet off I was out of my car, in his face, calling him my special names for “moron on a motorcycle”. When he finally got his helmet off, the moron on a motorcycle was my professor. Luckily he had a sense of humor.

One morning a little ‘honey’ was on her way to an early morning interview with ME. She proceeded to tell the elevator car full of people that she was on her way to an interview with Mrs. XXX and she heard XXX was a “Beotch” and “harda..” but anyway she sure hoped she got the job…Yeah, I was in the back of the elevator car….not one person in the elevator ratted me out either….LOL

Oh, elevator conversation can be soooo interesting at times! Great story, litenmaus!
I was riding up in one of the elevators at Universal Studios’ “Black Tower” and it was packed with various MCA executives. We stopped at one of the floors and on hopped a flamboyant young woman who had been on sick leave for a couple of weeks. She had a very cheeky sense of humor. I greeted her, saying we’d missed her and made the mistake of asking if all was OK now.
She responded, “Oh, sure, it was just “******” (a social disease). For a moment everything stopped and you could have heard a pin drop. Then everyone erupted in hilarious laughter. My face was red, but her creamy complexion stayed creamy and her eyes were sparkling knowing she had shocked me. Life! LOL!

Elevator story I heard two hours ago at work from our bartender.
This guy is a hoot, and not afraid of self-deprecating humor.
He was in a big city, with a three or four year old daughter, on the way back to their hotel room, on a floor in the 30s. He really needed to poop, badly. By floor ten he did. Floor 12, four more people got on. Elevator keeps going. Four people start sniffing the air, and their faces all look like they’re playing funk music, and they ask, “What is that?”
His little daughter says, “My dad just pooped.”
He’s got 20 more floors to go with these folks.

When I was in Jr. High, about 14 yrs old, I made a remark about our gym teacher and used the term “dyke”. After which I noticed she was walking about 2 ft behind me and looked me right in the eyes.Well, I don’t think she liked me before that anyway. But, the funny thing about it all was, I didn’t know what a dyke was really. I just knew it was a woman who wasn’t feminine looking. I had no idea what a homosexual was or anything else. 🙄

One morning there was a large group of students standing outside the Psychology I classroom. Apparently the professor was late and the room was still locked. One of the students was complaining and I quoted to her something the prof had said during our previous session: “Maturity is being able to accept present frustration for future gain.”
As I said this, the professor brushed past me and quickly opened the door. He then turned to me and said, “What is your name?” Thinking that maybe he thought I was being a wiseacre in quoting him, with trepidation I gave him my name at which point he exclaimed, “YOU are getting an A today!” LOL!

Karma is definitely horrible. I know.
I drove 350 miles a day for a living, for a few months, years ago. Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, twice a day, and finally back to GR. In a Geo Metro. Yup. A three cylinder Geo with bicycle tires.
I had road rage, among other sorts of rage, back then, and it was my habit to hold my middle finger out the window when someone did me wrong on the highway for a mile or two.
I did that one day to a pickup truck. Contractors. A whole truckload of Mexicans. They had phones. A whole ‘nuther whole pickup truck was with them. They were fully tattooed and leaning out of their windows yelling “You wanna piece o’ me!?”
I got away after some quick subterfuge, or God… whichever. They were trying to block me in by slowing in front of me in the middle lane, and the screamers on my right. Me, being the law abiding citizen that I am, hit my left blinker. Went left, and they did too. Then I hit my right blinker and went right, and so did they, still screaming spanish invective at me.
Then I hit my left blinker, and went RIGHT, up an off-ramp.
Then I never flipped anyone off in traffic ever again.

People are, of course, responsible for their criminal actions. They alone must pay either with a long prison sentence or via death. But there are days when I think, Oh, God, all the lost people with no structure in their lives, no holding back on emotions, no sense of morality, or goodness or decency or the precious value of life.
The young perp in this case can fault everyone else and take no responsibility. He can kill again, perhaps the police officers who pursue him…and he’ll think, So what difference at this point does it make! Anything can happen.
It would be too heartbreaking for me to work with wayward or criminal youth. A goodly percent of the time there is no turning back for them, no owning-up, no desire to change…they’re too far gone even at a young age. It takes a special kind of love above and beyond usual concern.
For several years I wrote to adult prisoners via a Prison Fellowship program. Some were in foreign countries and I would send them food items since oftentimes Third-world prisoners are fed once a day and some days not at all. Most of the time the lifers were happy to receive some communication from the outside. But occasionally, one would be abusive and berate me like a former British military noncom did who was incarcerated for running drugs. He wasn’t the least bit interested in redemption. I don’t know what his motivation was in signing up for the program.
It’s a broken world and we do our best in whatever way we can. Sometimes it’s not enough. Sometimes it is.

I feel the impact of your words Lucille. I have often thought of the utter waste of these young lives, the violence and degradation of their existence. From birth many of them might as well have been raised by animals for all the civilizing influence they’ve had.
It’s a great waste, a waste of human lives and potential, not to mention the devastation they are inflicting on society, and the use of resources we spend just keeping them alive to kill again another day.
On the one hand, I can look at them collectively and feel utter contempt and anger at what they have chosen.
But still, I can look at a young man like Mike Brown laying dead and feel sorrow that he was what he was, his life was lost before he ever even died, and that America has so many more.
I don’t think they can ever be helped. Until an individual assumes responsibility for their own choices, no change can ever come. Since, as a society they have chosen to buckle down on blaming others for their choices, their violence, and their failures, nothing is going to change.
The morality most of us live by is utterly foreign to a number of people.

We all have our gifts Lucille, each different. I count the success not the fair because that is the best I can do.
Back in Ohio I was part of a team that wen worked with at risk youths. I was myself relatively young then and teenagers could relate to me and I to them.
One night in particular at a teen night’s out I was drawn to a teenage girl I had not met before. Long night short she was planning on committing suicide that night. We talked, we talked after the club closed, the club was run by a christian man who happened to be a news personality, (I don’t remember his name). She ended up seeing some beauty in life and the last I heard she was doing well in her adult life.
That same group of kids had a young man, always polite, quiet, very troubled, horrible abusive alcoholic mom, he reached his breaking point after another night of being terrorized by her and murdered her. This is a kid I hugged. I talked with. I failed in many ways.
This is his case don’t read it if you don’t want to read something depressing.

I think of them both often because the happenings were days apart.
For some reason your post reminded me of those dark days after the murder and how I drew upon my experience with the suicidal girl for hope.

Apparently it was a family dispute, and the two who were shot were not students.

the 19 year old killed his mother and father. apparently he had been busted for drugs and at the hospital the night before, and the father was a law enforcement officer too.
no mention in the news as the kid is protected under the BLM cover of MSM non reporting.

Just saw the Billy Graham funeral. It was a really beautiful service. This photo made me feel so much better.
It’s soon to be spring, ya’ll!

Afternoon Everyone 🙂 Great posts as usual!
I did not have time for paintings today. So here are my “painting” images. Both are from Granitegrok.com
Have to run & get my wildflower order in today. I’m turning the outer parts of new “yard” into wildflower meadow so I don’t have to mow it.
Have a great day everyone 🙂

Forgot to ask –
Has Pres.Trump said anything about the Obama disparate impact, Promise Program being the cause of the shooting?

I can’t say I have heard PTrup say anything. But, the Dem idiot liars are out in force denying that the kids are getting away with violent actions. They say that Obama was talking about minor infractions that the black kids were being put in jail for. I watched Laura Ingraham and she had a list of violations that were being covered up, an OFFICIAL list and he still denied it.

That’s what liars do…deny, deny and simply lie some more. He’s confident that his lies will be ignored by the lying media.
One of the reasons he needs to be outed asap is that Michelle plans to run for office. WE NEED to have them running for cover instead.

New Orleans Museum of Art has a Faberge exhibit with 36 miniature eggs, & several other pieces produced for the Russian royals. This is a beautiful one, but not at NOMA

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
