I planted some bulbs last fall. Brown and dead looking they were, but with hope I covered them over. Now it is Spring and out in my garden I saw some cracks in the earth where the bulbs were planted. Soon some green tips appeared, then some leaves, and I know that one day a bud will appear and it follows that a bright golden bloom will brighten my Spring garden and like magic there will be purple and blue and pink so delicate and beautiful and out of place on the brown dirt.
I planted a prayer, and like the bulb it was without life until faith and the Holy Spirit worked a miracle, and God would make something beautiful come forth. At first nothing, then a sign of something, a further word or sign, and I can hope in the answer that the prayer has life and will bring forth that which God has intended, for His will is over all things.
We have only to set in motion by “planting”. He will do the rest.

But the thermometer is reading +25 and the days are noticeably longer than they were a month ago, so spring’s promise is there. Have those of you in the South got dogwoods blooming yet?

Sixteen could be a granma in the urban areas. I was floored some 25 years ago (Good Lord, time flies) when on a Sheriff’s detail I was talking with a woman who told us that she appreciated our being there as they remodeled this small apartment complex. She told us their group was creating a housing complex for young black girls who were unmarried and pregnant. It would allow them to teach the girls self sufficiency, how to care for their babies and themselves. Very important, she told us, was that they had a relationship with a local school so the girls could continue their education.
Bombshell was, as she talked on, how the girls ranged in age from 11 to 16 or so. 11, folks, 11.

These are black innercity children – and, as we were told – a lot of older men too. We’re not talking MIT grad students here, we’re talking young women from families, if there even is a family, for whom education is not a priority. Even if they were in school the city has THE worst educational system in the US.
The local news used to cover the young teen or even preteen pregnancy issue but it slipped into that ‘things you don’t talk about’ catagory. Louisiana still has a large teen pregnancy issue and a child death rate that is 3rd or 4th in the nation (fights with us in Mississippi for that honor) and an infant death rate in the US top 5 – Mississippi again takes #1 usually. This is the mess we’re dealing with.

Children learn from what they see around them. If a girl’s mother has five kids with four fathers and none of them is her husband, and she supports her children on welfare, it is easy to see why this happens. The problem is breaking the cycle.

Good luck – I can remember all of the talk about ‘breaking the poverty cycle’ when I was in social work classes and that was 50 years ago. Reality as I see it is that there are powers out there who fdeed off of poverty and the industry we’ve built around it and people in the poverty cycle who are quite content where they are.

I asked my son (it happened before they met) what made her decide to do that. His reply was that she said she got tired of being poor, wanted a better future. Now she is a very successful investment banker.

I got my shock when we were sent frpom the school to help protest a planned regulation that require welfare recipients to put in a few hours of pro bono work for the community in return for the freebies. Nothing manual like ditch digging, more in the order of cletrical.
I’m conflicted – what’s wrong with putting in a few hours of work benefiting the community that’s paying your room and board. Wrong question to ask – next thing you know I’m getting lectured from all sides about a person’s ‘right’ to state support, a right unemcumbered by the state demanding slave labor in return. Oooooooookay……
I went back, changed to Sociology just to get the paper then went back for an MBA. Sounds familiar, eh?

at our high school and feeder middle school, the black girls are opting to have nothing to do with the black males.
The Hispanic girls, however, are culturally trained by their mothers to get out of the house with some guy and go have babies as they are of no use in earning money for the household.
last year a young Hispanic Soph girl proudly announced to me in class that she was having a baby and the father of the soon to be was sitting behind her in class…Hispanic male, failing grades, skinny moustache….and he refused to look at me or the girl…..
The black girls that have anything on the ball are taking care of business….the ones that are loud and demanding merely echo the attitude and behavior of their loud mouth, hostile, angry mommas who have no consistent male in their household.
Race and culture are not homogeneous tribes anymore.

Last time the news ran a piece on this, some 20ish years ago, the results were that the young women wanted ‘something of their own’ and a baby filled the bill. Also gave them access to the welfare system and as they were already in a generational public housing/Section 8 the extended family could help raise the child/ren. Also cemented the younger ‘with child’ woman’s position in the public housing unit.
For the black male (age immaterial) the issue was proving his manhood by creating a child – supporting that child wasn’t in the mix, that was the state’s job.
You can see why the news stopped doing pieces on ‘other’ cultures.

My mind goes back to before 911 when we were sent to ride shotgun over a school fair. Some young black girls, many not yet even teens, were grouped around a boom box having a dirty dancing ‘booty poppin’ dance off. About 20 minutes into the rather heated affair some of the older black women came over, snatched up box and started screaming at these girls for being out there and nasty dancing like street ho’s. Girls just rooled their eyes, grabbed their radio and moved on.

Black families were once RULED by older black grandmothers and great grandmothers. They were fearless and fully engaged in controlling chilluns and the daddy too….they found their strength through the companionship and committments in their church, and they led their tribe relentlessly.
The great Migration from the South to Urban city for jobs and a life opportunity promised but never realized….They had a huge problem that they did not have property or land, and no assets in the South…but when they went to the North, Midwest, etc…they totally were enslaved by the ghetto street rules and the inhuman work at those jobs that were there.
Then they got free stuff.
Then they lost their own freedom and strength.
Today, they are just self made victims unless they take charge of themselves and get out of bed and make a good life for themselves and a family.

When I was a child, black female grandmothers were a wonderful part of society period. They had strength of will and character that few people ever achieve, and their contributions to their families and our society was priceless.
They were beautiful, faithful, stalwart women, and some part of me will always keep them in my mind as the models for courage, strength, and faith. Through determination alone, they held together families facing terrible times and terrible situations, many of them. But a few ruled over families settled into a secure and productive, happy life.

Morning Joshua I understand where you are coming from and I agree with most of your post.
Here is the problem. Birth control led to the sexual revolution that led to the denigration of sexuality and women, it led to the explosion of mass murder that women and the modern day Josef Mendels participate in 3000 times a day.
Many forms of birth control are in actuality abortifacients.
I on my own can’t change any culture, not the permissive sexual revolutionists, not the prolific Muslim culture that has stated that they will conquer the West through the womb, not the idiots that say “While by-gum they don’t really mean it lets bring them into our country and pay for them to have more future jihadists, not the anchor babies or the ghetto babies, it is beyond me.
But it is not beyond God. So I pray. I act and I speak to individuals because that is what I can do.
I am filled with joy that this girl did not have her baby chopped to pieces, burnt with saline, torn apart by a powerful vacuum stuck up her vagina, I am grateful that she did not give birth to his or body and let a doctor ram scissors into his or her head and suck the brains out.
This child is a victory for Christ despite how he or she was conceived. I rejoice in that.

Thanks for the info. I think the “sexual revolution” as they like to refer to the social mayhem of “If it feels good just do it”…was created by the Birth Control Pill, as well as the Playboy mystic of sexuality and social nihilism….
Birth control was formerly Abstinence and was cultural and value based in Iudeo/Christian Western European US society.
Parents and grandparents and church neighborhoods and school teachers and sports coaches all defended and promoted non-intercourse between minors and unmarried.
We lost that battle.

I am pro birth control. Call the Midwife showed very clearly a woman’s lot back then. I have a book with true stories from the early west. One was a diary written by a young woman who married and went west on a wagon train. She had a lot of stories. She had 7 pregnancies, with three live births, all who died young, I believe. She also died. She was 21 years old.

I will say, though, that my favorite stories are about the woman who had 25 children. The love between she and her husband, and the love in that family, were wonderful. I’ll grant you, that was an unusual example!

Part of the reason why babies and mothers died so frequently back then was a lack of knowledgeable medical care and births assisted by either nobody at all, or women who were untrained. Also the lack of cleanliness, even if a doctor attended the birth. There were many doctors who didn’t believe that dirt caused disease, or didn’t know.
Pregnancy and child birth were huge risks.
LikeLiked by 3 people
also no prenatal care, poor diets and no available drugs and antibiotics, as well as lack of monitoring equipment, and no ability to do a quick C-section if the birth went breach or seriously troubled….many women were already exhausted from running a house with tons of kids and doing all the work while the man tried to make a living.
no sanitation, cleansers, or treated water…..and a lot of “med schools” were just terrible.

And, the large number of pregnancies increased that risk.

Rather, let me turn outward to the beauty of the simple things and share them with a child, inspire someone who has lost hope to live again. Let me give kindness to all I meet and show them, if I can, their own true worth in Godās eye view ā each one important, each one loved.

I know I don’t have to tell you how lucky you are to have been loved and taught by your mother. I have gained so much in her inspiring words, Stella; it is so very kind of you to share your wealth of heritage.
“…for no slight or special treatment shown another can ever rob me of that given to me at birth ā Health and strength, a quality of holding on no matter what, a love of nature and a zest for life, a driving force that says āyou canā and, yes, some weakness, but a faith to overcome.”

Went on to the HHS site that lists breaches of medical records, just check every now and then to see what’s up. Sho’ nuff, the hospital that is connected with the local clinic had an almost 1700 record breach on February 1st. They have a few months to notify those involved but I decided to call their medical records section and see if any of our records were compromised. Rather chilly reception in their medical records section, they said that ‘someone will call me back…sometime.”

“I just called to say, ‘I love you’… I just called to say, ‘I care…'”
blah blah

stella and Mods, i apologize in advance…I might be starting a Forum Fire next door.
Listen, I just want you all to know that FB is a GIANT ZIONIST CONSPIRACY BY TEH JOOOOOS! I have this on good authority, of nut who’s convinced that WWII was caused by TEH JOOOS or something. (Hitler’s aggression and mad dream of conquering the world had nothing to do with it! Nothing at all!)
I know that when Trump became the frontnrunner there was a huge diaspora of, ahem, “conservatives” from other websites, but I liked the Treehouse better before the nuts moved in.

Thank you Menagerie. I see he wrote me back; oddly enough I didn’t get alerts about those, but since you warned him I will resist the urge to respond. š
Thank you for taking the matter in hand.

You didn’t get alerts because the nested comments ran out of room. When they go down so far there isn’t a reply function and the person has to reply to the last comment with that reply underneath it. So he had to reply to himself.

Next time I see comments like these, do you want me to just send an email to you all? I didn’t know if this was the sort of thing I should report or not.

SEnding an email is good but it may take longer for one of us to find it. We get hundreds of emails a day, and sometimes it may be awhile before one of us goes through them. It’s pretty low on the priority list since so many people have decided everything has to be sent to the Treehouse.
I don’t know whether Stella would prefer we not put this stuff on her site. We will wait for her to make that call. Several people have tipped us off that way, so I t wouldn’t hurt to have her decide about it.

I can’t even make myself go there anymore. It’s really sad what has happened to it. I guess the traffic is good for the blog, but it’s not so good for those of us who liked it the way it was. Not enough branches these days.

This film has always been one of my favorite melodramas…Grant’s character is a gambler…Day’s is a wealthy socialite trying to run a World War II refugee relief organization…

they do not say what he was doing when he was shot, I notice. Didn’t Florida go through this once before with Terri Schiavo except the husband wanted her to be allowed to die and Jeb Bush and congress people blocked that from happening….she died finally anyway, never had a normal moment, mostly braindead.

posted this late yesterday….modified today:
Teachers and staff at the High School where I sub are having a Soul Food Festival for faculty and staff on Thursdayā¦.to observe African American Month of something in Februaryā¦..since they mostly do not know about Southern Food anywayā¦..I just cooked up 6 pounds of black eyed peas and making three 10 inch iron skillets of serious cornbreadā¦.might toss in some candied yamsā¦decided not to do greens as that would freak some outā¦.taking some hot salsa for the peas for the Hispanic crowdsā¦..my heavens but 6 pounds of dried blackeyes cooks up HUGE after they hydrate.
so today I baked a sweet potato pie, and made a pan of peach cobbler too. having a tough time keeping folks at home out of my food stuff to take in….so I made some stay at home “soul food” too…
rainy and thundering…a couple of small tornadoes near dallas this morning…but good blackeyed pea and cornbread weather and a cool front is headed in tonite to cap it off.
just need some ice cream.

I made this soup a few days ago. The recipe came from a Womens World magazine, I believe.
This is a recipe that makes me think of chili, but isn’t. It is really tasty.
Sandy’s Vegetable Chicken Chili
2 TBS olive oil
3 LBS boneless skinless chicken
1 onion, chopped
2 jalapeno peppers, seeded, and diced, 1/4 c.
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 TBS chili powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp pepper
2 cans (28 oz. each) whole tomatoes, drained, carsely chopped, juice reserved
2 cans (28 oz. each) crushed tomatoes (or diced tomatoes)
2 cans (15 oz. each) spicy chili beans, undrained
2 cans (15 oz. each) black beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans (11 oz. each) Mexicorn undrained
2 medium zucchini, (6 oz. each) cut into 1/2 ” pieces
Sour cream and shredded Cheddar cheese, optional
In pot heat oil over medium-high heat. Add next 7 ingredients; cook, stirring frequently, until chicken is no longer pink, 8-10 minutes. Add tomatoes with juice and next 5 ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, 1 hour. Be careful, it will stick if the heat is too high or if it is not stirred often enough. Garnish with sour cream and cheese, if desired. Makes 20 servings.
It makes a huge amount. You might want to make only 1/2 a recipe.

My chili has the same veg, plus bell pepper and mushrooms. I add extra cumin and cayenne too. I usually use beef, but chicken is good. I don’t use zucchini.

I finally did go see the 15:17 to Paris.
It was really good. I didn’t get bored at all. Spencer is one of the young men and the young actor that played him when he was a kid was so good. I thought he caught his mannerisms very well. All the actors did very well. Clint Eastwood did an amazing job on this film. I don’t particularly care for flashbacks or flashforwards, but he used both so skillfully. The way it was filmed you had the feeling you were there with them. I highly recommend it. These three young men are really heroes.

lilbirdee12ās prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Woo Hoo! We had a Judgeship primary here today. We are a very Right leaning community but races like this are notorious for low voter turnout and many people were worried that the far lefties would win though cheating. But Michael Screnock a strong conservative with 128,041 votes (47%) beat the crowd of liberals. He will face nut case Rebecca Dallet who got 99,544 votes (37%) in April.
I voted around noon and I was the 55th vote šin my ward. These races are the foot hills of the battle I wish more people understood this truth. As goes the vote, so will go Waukesha’s supreme court.
