It’s funny to me that the words of King Solomon became a popular 60’s song.
Still to this day.

Things that make you go “Huh!” I am unsure what this portends, so I’ll just wait and see.

Me too. I seem to remember that he said once before that he wouldn’t seek reelection.

I’m thinking when Ginsburg takes her final nod Gowdy is going to be first in line to become a Justice of the Supreme Court.
Gowdy has always been sound and fury with little action. When I see how much effort and planning it takes President Trump to move the nation forward inch by inch I am more inclined to cut Gowdy some slack over his lack of actions meeting his words.
”Whatever skills I may have are better used in the courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system.”__Trey Gowdy
I watched a show, possibly Forensic Files, that featured Gowdy before he went into politics and it was obvious that he liked his job and that he adhered to the letter of the law.

If only SD hadn’t called him rooster head this might never have happened.

Generally a conservative person–especially a prosecutor who has taken on the bad guys and won–comes into Congress thinking he can make a difference, that his powers of persuasion can be used to bring others to the cause of justice, that his own dedication will keep him “pure” and undefiled by the easy access to power and all that entails. Then he finds that corruption doesn’t come in one big, gaudy package but in the small compromises offered by those who want to sway him instead.
Perhaps he’s just tired…tired of all the possibilities to give in and just let things slide and look the other way…tired of thinking about what he could become if he didn’t get out…tired of the stupidity and games…tired of the ineffectiveness and the charade and temptation…tired of all the things he promised himself he would never do or tolerate….tired of being the one some make jokes about.
So it’s time to be his own man again…to do what he does best. Unlike so many others who needed to quit years ago before they became unrecognizable to themselves and the ideals they grew up with, Trey Gowdy is leaving before he’s consumed.
I say “Godspeed” to him. And may he be replaced by a person who will wholeheartedly work with President Trump, who will look at all that still needs to be accomplished in seven more years, and not flinch.

My take on this is pretty much the same. I was disgusted by some of the comments about him next door.

Well against my better judgement I went over there for a read. Clowns. 95% of them. I let a comment not that it will open their minds to thinking outside of the herd mentality but I thought the lone voice of reason that I spotted should know he or she is not the nutter.

Sundance made more than one mention of his wealth suddenly increasing, at what I took to be aware and maybe suspicious due to the timing of his increased political profile. I was always frustrated he didnt seem to get anywhere with investigations. I think he will be happier unless he becomes a high profile attorney, new job old stress.

I read around internet town that the landfall money was fake news of some sort but could not really vet either way. I started, but then got sidetracked, to see if either his or his wife’s parent’s/grandparents had died and left an inheritance of some sort or a life insurance policy. The amount was not really that much if going to be bought. I thought the insinuations and assumptions that an influx of money meant he was dirty was reckless. I have at times been rahrahrah for him and other times I have been disappointed in him enough to not sign away my loyalty to him l00% but I am not quite ready to accept he took payouts and is dirty.

I have no idea of where it came from either so I cant make a judgement on him for it.

Gowdy’s net worth was 84% less than the average member of Congress and 80% less than the average representative. When compared to the South Carolina Congressional Delegation, Gowdy had a net worth that was 70% less than the average.
I don’t read over there, I just went to take a look because it was mentioned and I happen to think Gowdy hasn’t been given a fair shake given all the perimeters that he has to work within.
The best I can tell is that Gowdy is worth about 4.5 million. Personally I don’t think he is corrupt nor did I ever, I thought perhaps that he was playing the Joe Liberman role for the republicans but the more I find out about our government’s deep deep corruption I think it is more likely Gowdy is doing what he can under terribly oppressive circumstances especially before Trump took office.
I think it is wrong to draw histrionic conclusions by pulling together circumstantial evidence and then smear someone over what are your personal conclusions drawn from nebulous connections, especially without presenting it strictly as opinion.
I’m happy that you dig deep and verify.

It’s what we’d like to see: be a productive citizen, go into politics, serve, get out, be a productive citizen again. Like George Washington.

I once really liked him, but got annoyed with all the tough talk and no action. I honestly wish more would serve and go back to their previous life, it is the way it was meant to be.
