In memory of this young man and all those who can’t hang on for one more day, and then another…. If there could have been just one person in whom he confided…. All the many “ifs” his family will now have to confront…say a prayer for them tonight….

I will never forget when my father in law was talking to his son (my husband) who was in a casket and my FIL said 6 words “You deserve this more than me.” He then placed his hand on my husband’s chest and sobbed for a while, as I approached him, he removed his hand I saw that he had pinned his Purple Heart to his sons chest.
So many battles are silent and hidden behind a smile. It is hard for some to imagine what it is like to battle to be here most every moment of ones life especially for those who learn early on “proper behavior”.
I’m out for most of the day.
Prayers for this young man and his family and friends and all those who suffer from mental illness, seen or unseen.

It got up into the 40’s today so the ice, with the exception of along the shoreline, is gone and the ducks are happily swimming/fishing. So if you’re a Merganser, it was a good day. (And in my case, even if you’re not!!!)

“Those dripping crumpets, I can see them now. Tiny crisp wedges of toast, and piping-hot, flaky scones. Sandwiches of unknown nature, mysteriously flavoured and quite delectable, and that very special gingerbread. Angel cake, that melted in the mouth, and his rather stodgier companion, bursting with peel and raisins. There was enough food there to keep a starving family for a week.” ~ Daphne du Maurier

Okay, this one made me do something long overdue. Google crumpets. I had a vague idea of what they were, but now I think I should make them.

If I recall correctly, they are similar to what we call English muffins.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Yes. According to what I read, they only use soda rather than yeast, and are only cooked on one side on the griddle, as opposed to the English muffins, cooked on two. Which makes them excellent receptacles for butter and jam, with all the holes and nooks and crannies from the griddle. I do believe I will make them.

This reminds me of a concoction I came up with when my kids were young. I haven’t made it in so long. It was an easy weekend treat, and we all loved it, although it used humble ingredients, it was good, no trouble or mess, and fast to make if you had boiled eggs on hand.
I took a jar of cheese whiz (I know, but it was the only spreadable cheese back then) and added chopped boiled eggs, finely chopped ham, a little very finely chopped onion, salt and pepper, and then spread on split English muffins and put under the broiler until toasted and bubbly.
Occasionally I served this to guests, who also really loved it. In spite of the yucky Cheese Whiz, which I really detest, it is very good.
I’m trying now to think of a spreadable cheese that might make it better. I need to make it again.

Maybe this recipe with a bit more water:
https://www.browneyedbaker.com/diy-homemade-velveeta-cheese-recipe/
Velveeta is just cheddar mixed with unflavored gelatin and powdered milk.
Maybe it softens to Cheez Whiz consistency at room temp?

I have happy memories of my girls, maybe 3 and 4 years old, I would give them each an English muffin cut in half and they would spread sauce on it (well one did not use sauce) and sprinkle mozzarella cheese, then add whatever topping they wanted and make their own mini-pizzas. It was really a fun little meal.

They have a different texture to English muffins. But the holes hold lots of yummy butter. I like mine with butter and honey! Yum.

Morning Stella, all,
Beautiful morning, beautiful painting. Full frontals the past few days, love it. Thank you. Oh, and learned on another site that it is National Popcorn Day today, very appropriate!
Rain yesterday and a bit overnight, but mostly clear through the weekend out here. Been checking forecasts for Pebble Beach Monday, when I finally am going to play there! Been fluctuating between 40-80% rain, but woke this morning and it’s down to 20%!
My mom has been home from the hospital (finally) for a week now, but heard that she is not doing well, and Hospice is being consulted. Definitely a damper. Will be gone for a few days, maybe longer, but will be peeking in at you all.

Have a great day and weekend y’all!

Thank you Gil. Grew up on the Central Coast. Lived in Big Sur and attended Carmel High part of junior year.
Lived in Santa Cruz for 40 years, worked on several home and Spanish Bay on 17 Mike Drive. Part of the reason that Pebble Beach holds a special place in my heart, been around it and have ateended several tournaments there. Going to be so amazing to actually play it!
Thanks for advice, don’t mean to downplay your reply.
You live in Central Coast? Think I’ve seen you’re from California as well, and, you have same name as my brother, who still lives in the area. Funny.

Not a golfer but I can always enjoy a beautiful place well cared for. Prayers for you, your mom & family. Hospice can be a blessing as it gives relief from pain, but letting go of hope for recovery is hard. My mom made the decision, so we had to accept it & support her. My good friend used it to have the freedom to do what she wanted in her last months.

Just had a nice moment. Close family relative posted a comment about the Scandle Free Obama and missing class in the WH. Ahhhhhh, I commented, “You have been judging the book by its cover, never looking at the contents, only reading the rave reviews. ObamaGate, O-Gate IS here.”
I know no matter how hard the person tries I am now in their head with them agitated that others see Barry as a facade. Also know they will, at some level here “O-Gate” whenever hearing “O” for Oprah, as well. This should not feel so good but it does.

The Law of Unintended Consequences:
For days before and during New Orleans low-20s/high teens encounter the talking heads on the weatherguesser broadcasts went on and on about making sure you ran a pencil lead-thin stream of water from your faucets when the temps hit 28 or lower for 4 hours or more. So many NOLA houses have exposed water pipes for various reasons it’s necessary they do so to keep water moving in pipes to prevent freezing and bursting. It wasn’t unusual for the talking heads to mention the ‘running water’ warning three of four times during each daily newscast and during the local morning programs.
Human nature being what it is the locals, including those in houses with no exposed pipes ran water, many running larger than necessary streams ‘just to be safe’. It appears many, ‘just in case’, continued to run the water during the above freezing temps during the day.
Welllllll, the water pressure fell…plummeted actually…to the point where water pressure is so low that hotels downtown had to close due to zero water above street level and conventions had to close early with conventioneers and tourists going home early. The airport had to cancel flights as the runways were iced over and the bathrooms and concessions were severely curtailed or even closed due to no water. Hospitals had to heavily scale back services and Hizonnuh da Mayor had to assemble his serious-looking puppet team to hold on-air updates as to how the crisis will be overcome…somehow…eventually…don’t hold your breath.
Now the talking heads are on every few hours to tell us how everyone should stop running water as it’s 50 degrees with no freezing weather in the pipeline, so to speak, for days. I doubt the already shell-shocked will immediately comply but the city’s still trying to deal with city-owned pipes that supply neighborhoods that have burst. The city’s still largely under a ‘boil water’ alert, something that’s been rather common in the area over the lat year, and water pressures are climbing but are not back to normal. I’m happy I have my own well that’s not subject to political control…yet.

You just can’t ‘wow’ today’s kids. I went to pick up the GGS in Gulfport. As we were going by the airport we got stuck in traffic. At the first stoplight a NASA T-37 the astronaut candidates use came in for a landing at the Gulfport airport…about 60 feet over our car. Barely got the GGS to look away from his Nintendo
At the second stoplight and traffic gnarl I’m looking west to see if any other planes are headed in and there’s a biggie out at about 3/4 of a mile doing a 180-degree high bank, turning back towards the airport. From the shape and the black smoke from the engines I recognized it as my old friend, the C-130. As we were stopped in a mess at the light there was enough time for the 130 to come right over us at about 50 feet…it was a brand spanking new AC-130 gunship and low enough so we could see the cannons on the side. He looked but went right back to the Nintendo.
As we were winding up the entrance ramp to the interstate two A-10s flying low and slow, waiting to get into the airport, were jinking around and putting on a display for bored motorists, then banked toward the airport and crossed over at about 100 feet…not a waiver from the Nintendo screen.
I was impressed, been a long time since I’ve been that close to operational aircraft (no idea why there were so many there) but it seems Nintendo games have more draw than real stuff.

What got me was I was ape over planes at his age and I know people who’d kill to see an AC-130, never mind one most probably right out of the factory a wee bit away. This one was flying over close enough to see the rivets, nice and slow and low. Sheesh, some days ya jes can’t win.

There’s something happening here
But what it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a vote over there
Telling me I got to be wrong
I think it’s time we stop
Children, what’s that sound?
Everybody look – what’s going down?
There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
MAGA people speaking’ their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
It’s time we stop
Hey, what’s that sound?

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Interesting little tidbit I came across today in a Jerome Corsi article from 2012 about Obama and Rev. Wright. Corsi’s article references Frank Marshall Davis:
“Davis and Vernon Jarrett, the father-in-law of senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, were close friends in Chicago and colleagues at the Chicago Defender and the Chicago Star, two communist-run newspapers during the 1940s.”
