No plans here for new year’s eve. Its not been much of a holiday for me. When I was a kid living in l.a., on 2 separate eve holidays, my parents had bullets shatter their car windows. Drunks are driving all hours already so im not too inclined to risk it. Ill stay home and pray for an excellent 2018 for my family, you all, our POTUS, and the country. Maybe Ill stay up way late, say 1130, if I can make it, since we still are a bit sick. If y’all are travelling or partying for the weekend, stay safe. 🙄

    • Thank you, Gil! We don’t go out for New Years either, but we still have fun. We just enjoy sparkling cider and grape juice and reminiscing over the past year. There’s so much to be thankful for in 2017 and 2018 is looking good, too! President Trump is doing a fantastic job and the economy is improving everyday. Good stuff!!! 😊

Oh my goodness. I hope you are all feeling better soon. We also do not go out on New Years. We actually get enough take-out the day before that I don’t have to cook for 2 days!
Love the pic. Reminds me of Pres Trump!

  5. I had an interview yesterday through the temp agency, and I have another one today that’s not through the temp agency. I haven’t mentioned this to anyone else yet, but I was also in touch with a radio station in Michigan before Christmas, regarding a position they were trying to fill. I’m waiting to hear back form them about an interview, hopefully one by phone.

I guess the thing is losing the last job unexpectedly like that really made me feel like I got the rug pulled out form under me. I don’t know what I want to do anymore. The only option that actually interests me (as a career, not just a job) is the opportunity at the radio station in Michigan.

“Having the rug pulled out from under you makes you suspicious of rugs, but most rugs are just rugs and what is really important in life is your feet, where they take you and where they land you.” __Father Green (Steubenville, Ohio)

Read the link to Sharon’s post that Menagerie posted, it addresses just this issue beautifully.

      • Thank you for pointing out Sharon’s post. It was a good read, and it does apply. And thank you for the quote, as well. I saw it this morning and thought of it when I started getting suspicious, mid-interview. I remembered the line, “Sometimes a rug is just a rug” and settled back down, and it was all good.

        Thank you, lovely! 🙂

Happy to hear it Rhea! The right job is out there. The quote is from my priest back in Ohio, they were the exact right words exactly when I needed to hear them. Funny thing is a year later he had no recollection of saying them 🙂 .

Rhea, I will be 60 soon, and, for what it is worth, there are a few jobs I wanted so bad that I didn’t get. I know this is a cliche, but it turned out so much better that I didn’t get them.

Also, I take tests really well, and I interview very well too, or I used to. I haven’t done much of that in awhile, but I read up on it, and frankly, it seems quite stupid nowadays. It seems to me there is a script and you are supposed to know your role, and your answers, and all of it can be found online, and they ask the “right” questions, and you are supposed to have done your research and know what impressive thing to say. Hogwash.

Anyhow, my point in the last paragraph was supposed to be that I just took getting a job for granted when I was younger. I can honestly say I got every job I interviewed for except two through my forties I guess. It made me appreciate them less and job hop a little too much.

Your last experience seems to me to be one of shortcoming on the employer’s part. You treat it as a temporary job, just like it was. Don’t dwell on it, in your own mind and in interviews. Just tell potential employers it was a temp job you held until it ended which is 100% true, right?

          Liked by 1 person

          • Honestly, I don’t even mention it. I was actually getting ready to revise my LinkedIn profile and my resume when the job came to an abrupt end. So… I did mention it on one application, but also pointed out that the position was a temp one, and I still got an interview.

What I am getting most tired of is being asked how good of a multitasker I am. I can take notes about a call while I am on the phone, but I don’t believe there is such a thing as multitasking beyond that. 🙍

            • Menagerie says:

The multitasker question is code. They are telling you they are understaffed and you will be expected to do the work of two or three people. Anytime this type conversation comes up over a salaried, as opposed to an hourly paying position, I would carefully and diplomatically inquire about how many hours your are regularly expected to work. It is very possible they would expect you to work a lot more than 40 hours, if it is a salaried position.

I agree with Menagerie and you about multi-tasking. It just means they don’t have enough people, and they want you to do the work of 2 or 3. Don’t do it whether salaried or hourly. It will drive you crazy, and you may very well not do as well. I do great at various jobs, but never at multi-tasking. Multi-tasking is part of the reason many businesses (no matter what type) have so many problems these days.

    Morning Everyone!
I have been trying for the last hour to post pics at imgur where I usually post pics from, but it keeps on coming up that it’s “an error try again”. I try over and over with different size pics from different places, closing and opening the browser and clearing cookies, but nothing works! I can’t even get the pic on there! 😦
I have to get some work done now after wasting so much time. I’ll try again later. I have just found a new artist I think you’ll enjoy, so I’m hoping it is just a glitch that will be better later, otherwise I’ll have to find some other way of getting pics here.
What nice pictures people have posted today! Thanks!

Sorry my Christmas greeting was so very short; there was much more I wanted to say, but it was quite hectic here, trying to make plans to get to Tennessee on a last minute flight as soon as I returned from my son’s for Christmas. I ended up not going to TN, which I was grateful for, but the reason for not going was still weighing heavy on my mind and put quite the damper on saying much in terms of festive salutations.

My friends in Tennessee lost their 39-year-old son Friday in a freak accident in a Dallas suburb where he lived. Ryan had a double axle utility truck that had a low tire and he was about to air it up when it exploded; he died instantly. I’ve learned a lot since then, and I’m sharing this both asking for prayers and offering some info that could possibly save a life.

I’ve watched videos of truck tires exploding. It doesn’t happen with regularity, but when it happens the force of the explosion can throw a person quite a distance. (Cars/light trucks are rated for 32ppi, but these larger trucks are at 110ppi.) If you or yours have a heavy duty truck, it’s worth the money to take the vehicle in for tire servicing, trust me; it’s money well invested. Also, my brother (who used to be a truck driver) told me to NEVER drive alongside a semi any longer than was absolutely necessary – and now I see why. I’ve never seen a semi blow a tire on the highway, but I will absolutely go out of my way not to be next to one now.

Ryan was a well-loved and kind man. He’d broken up with his ex-girlfriend 5 years ago, but always considered her children his step kids and stayed in their life as if he were their father, and an excellent one. His folks hosted a dinner at Ryan’s favorite restaurant and the turnout from Ryan’s ‘community’ was a great comfort to them. They will be driving two trucks going home, one with an open trailer attached, across Arkansas in potentially severe weather conditions. Please pray for their healing and a safe journey home (where on top of all else, frozen pipes await them). I strongly believe in prayer and this wonderful couple could use a large dose of God’s Grace.

“NEVER drive alongside a semi any longer than was absolutely necessary ” This is very true. My brother is a master mechanic, and he has told me the same thing. I have seen a tire blow out on a semi on a highway. Thank God no one was beside or around it!

This explanation of Kwanzaa is very good. I always wondered where it came from. Didn’t believe it was actually real. Ann Coulter spells it out pretty well.

“Coulter: Happy Kwanzaa! The Holiday Brought to You by the FBI!”

“Kwanzaa was the result of a ’60s psychosis grafted onto the black community by the founder of a murderous black nationalist cult with the FBI’s seal of approval.”

Mystery writer Sue Grafton dies in California

LOS ANGELES — Mystery writer Sue Grafton has died in Santa Barbara, California. She was 77.

Her daughter, Jamie Clark, posted news of her mother’s death on Grafton’s web page Friday.

She says her mother passed away Thursday night after a two-year battle with cancer and was surrounded by family, including Grafton’s husband, Steve.

Grafton was the author of the so-called Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Series in which each book title begins with a letter from the alphabet. The last was “Y is for Yesterday.”

Her daughter concluded her posting by saying, “the alphabet now ends at Y.”

Yes, she’s excellent. Wonderful escape. I don’t know if it’s still in existence, but I used to belong to the Mystery Book Club. Discovered Paretsky and many other writers, both contemporary and from the past through that club.

Nancy Drew novels got me started as a kid on mysteries. One of my cousins who lived about 35 miles away would send my sister her used Nancy Drew books and I got to read them, too.

Prior to the rise of chain book stores, downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood had terrific book stores, usually multi-storied, that you could spend a full day Saturday perusing. There were also multitudes of thrift shops with big book sections. Plus the department stores like Robinson’s, May Company, Bullocks had huge sections.

Paperbacks were cheap then. I used to tell my friends that I’d spend my last dime on a book. LOL!

    Meanwhile;

Donald Trump stated this as fact almost 2 years ago, Huma through Anthony would be Hillary’s downfall.

Classified documents among newly released Huma Abedin emails found on Weiner’s laptop

The message contained a list of talking points for then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was prepping to make a call to Prince Saud of Saudi Arabia to warn him about sensitive documents that had been given to WikiLeaks by then-Army intelligence officer Bradley Manning.

“I deeply regret the likely upcoming WikiLeaks disclosure,” read one of the talking points.

“This appears to be the result of an illegal act in which a fully cleared intelligence officer stole information and gave it to a website. The person responsible will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law” the message continued.

If that f*cking b*stard wins we’ll all hang from nooses.__H Clinton

And for an added bonus wasn’t it that Bradley Manning chap who Barack Hussein Obama pardoned at the end of his treasonous reign of anti-Americanism? No wonder even the Saudi’s hate Obama.
