Morning Wooly 🙂 Yes – That is exactly what the “progress”ives (in reality regressives) really want. They would love a return to a much smaller population (1), no middle class, and feudal times, each elitist with their own fiefdom.
(1) Georgia stones I thought was what said the population should decrease by billions.

And they wonder why there is a decrease in the number of younger people wanting families. I saw this even in the early eighties. What woman thinks this beta male, soyboy is going to protect and provide for her and her children?

Listen, maybe my standards are slipping (maybe I attended college too long), but at least this guy has no obvious piercing and tattoos and his pants aren’t hanging down to his knees.
Now, as to whether or not he can field-dress a moose if the occasion requires it, that will have to be determined. (Yes, I need a man who can hunt food if I’m going to get married. If society collapses, I need to be sure my children won’t starve.)

I had this idea of your younger self talking to your older self for quite a while. It is an interesting dramatic device. [Several years ago] I was at an exhibition of Anton Corbijn’s photographs in Amsterdam, and someone asked me what would I say to this photo; I think it was a shot of me at age 22. I thought about it, and then I said, “Stop second-guessing yourself. You’re right.
Oh how I wish I could say the exact same thing to my younger self.

Recipe by Gina Rae Vinson
1 cup butter, softened
3⁄4 cup brown sugar, packed
3⁄4 cup sugar
2 eggs
4 teaspoons maple syrup
2 1⁄3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1 lb bacon, cooked until crispy, crumbled and well drained
In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter, brown sugar and sugar until fluffy.
Stir in eggs and maple syrup and beat for 1 more minute.
In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt and add in batches to mixing bowl. Beat just long enough to incorporate.
Stir in the bacon pieces by hand.

Bake at 375 degrees for 7-10 minutes, until golden brown.

Hee hee! I am simple about baking because I don’t like to measure.
Box of your favorite brownie mix
1 pound of your favorite bacon
About a 20 soft caramels cut into small pieces (about 1/4 inch by a 1/4 inch)
Sea Salt medium grain
Fry up bacon, let it drain and cool, crumble bacon
Make brownie mix
Add bacon to brownie mix
Bake according to box instructions (I put them in mini cupcake tins and call them brownie bacon bites)
When brownies are done cooking immediately sprinkle with caramels and Sea Salt
Voilà! A wonderful delight is born 🙂 .

I love recipes which have half the work done by something you buy. Used to watch a show called Semi-Homemade, with a woman named Sandra who made recipes like that. I buy Martha White muffin mixes & add an egg to the mix, then blueberries for the berry mixes or raisins for the bran muffins. They mix up fast & come out great.

Sounds yummy! I just started making the brownie bacon mix, the first time I put the caramels in before cooking them which made them stick to everyones teeth 😜!

Live & learn! I put 7-8 blueberries on each muffin after I pour the mixture into the muffin tins, because when I put them in the bowl then poured them into the tins, some got 1 berry & some got too many!

Hi Tundra 🙂 How many time zones are you from eastern time? 4 hours?
The radio news just reported here in NH at the Mount Washington Observatory it was -34 degrees matching a cold record from 80 years ago. I’m guessing it gets that cold a lot more often up where you are!
Keep warm & have a great day! 🙂

Hi G&C. Alaska time is 4 hours earlier than eastern time. I’ve been to the top of Mt. Washington, many years ago. In the fall. It was gorgeous! And yes indeed, -34 is Pretty Dang Cold no matter where you are. When I lived out in Bethel we’d get in the -30s for a few days or a week pretty much every year. Here on the Kenai Peninsula we have the maritime effect from the northern Pacific/Gulf of Alaska, so it’s somewhat warmer overall. We had 2 weeks of -30s here a few winters ago, but not since. “Real cold” for us is usually between -20 and zero.

You know, when I get a little nervous about the opposition trying to hold back our agenda, I think of how we have had to work and earn what we have, and they have finagled what they have. When push comes to shove, as the saying goes, our side is smarter, harder working, and more capable. As long as we now organize and speak out, (as Pres Trump exhorted us to do recently) in the end we will win out!!

Here is today’s painting by Michael Hague, Father Christmas ans Elves Delivering Presents:
Michael Hague is an American illustrator and writer, primarily of children’s fantasy books. He has illustrated such classics such as The Wind in the Willows, The Wizard of Oz, The Hobbit and the stories of Hans Christian Andersen. He is renowned for the intricate and realistic detail he brings to his work, and the rich colors he chooses. Hague trained at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. His influences as the comics series Prince Valiant and the works of Disney, Japanese printmakers Hiroshige and Hokusai, and turn of the 20th century illustrators Arthur Rackham, W. Heath Robinson, N. C. Wyeth and Howard Pyle. Current work includes In the Small, a graphic novel published by Little, Brown and Company. He currently resides in Colorado Springs and donates his time each year to making a poster for Imagination Celebration.
I have loved his artwork from the first time I saw it, and am lucky enough to have a few of his calendars. I wish I bought more when it was more readily available.

Here is a very interesting, and informative website:
http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/home/
The Saint Nicholas Center: Discovering the truth about Santa Claus. To educate people of faith, and the wider public, about the true St. Nicholas, and why he is important in today’s world. Why is St. Nicholas Important?
St. Nicholas, lover of the poor and patron saint of children, is a model of how Christians are meant to live. As priest and bishop, Nicholas put Jesus Christ at the center of his life and ministry. His concern for children and others in need or danger expressed a love for God which points toward Jesus, the source of true caring and compassion. Embracing St. Nicholas customs can help recover the true center of Christmas—the birth of Jesus.
Understanding St. Nicholas as the original and true holiday gift-giver also helps shift focus to giving rather than getting, compassion rather than consumption, need rather than greed. This can help restore balance to increasingly materialistic and stress-filled Advent and Christmas seasons.
St. Nicholas is beloved throughout the world and continues to be revered in Christian tradition, especially as protector and patron of children in the West and as Wonderworker in the East. The St. Nicholas Center aims to bring Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Orthodox, and Protestant Christians together in common purpose—to help people understand and appreciate the original St. Nicholas, the only real Santa Claus.

Educational Rot
The roots of America’s epidemic of substandard teachers.
I am so happy more people are waking up to this problem. I just wish my local school board’s answer to everything was not to just throw more money at it.
Both DH and I were recently talking about how the past year or two we have noticed so often in everyday life problems arise because people (usually under the age of 40, but especially under20or 25) have no idea of how to deal with the most simple of problems that we would have straightened out without barely noticing. Many people today literally/actually only know how to look at their smart phones or computers, and do what it says next. They have NO IDEA HOW TO THINK, and FORGET ABOUT PROBLEM SOLVING! I dread growing older because so many of the younger people have no idea how to think something through. Over 20 years ago my friend and I were lamenting how younger people had no idea of how to look at either the big overall picture, or the long term consequences of their actions and beliefs. Now these people are in their 30’s and 40’s trying to run businesses, schools, and government agencies. I know exceptions to this of people who were home schooled or went to Catholic schools. This is why, as I said the other day, all the propane guys have grey hair!

Doing this with the 10 year old GGS. He is already challenged by impatience, ADHD & the immaturity of little boys, so he gets angry at the least difficulty or frustration. We try to talk him through tasks like looking for a missing Lego piece, cutting thick branches with a ratcheting clipper or assembling a jigsaw puzzle using logic & step by step, well thought actions. He needs to learn how to use tools, & the right tool for the job, or how to decide how use what tools you have if the right one is not available. He has no idea how to set goals. Looking at the other children in his school, almost all of whom are on the free lunch program, I can’t imagine how the teachers don’t pull out all their hair!

You are providing what many parents do not. You care enough to recognize his needs, and SUPERVISE him while he learns.
While I disagree with my DD and her husband about many things, they have taught their sons to cook, rake leaves, shovel snow, do laundry, wash dishes, and many other things that make them independent humans.
My daughter also has been a bulldog about supervising homework, helping her kids when they hit hard spots, and has used tutors for the boys when they were needed. She’s great about identifying problems early and doing what she can to help solve them.
I especially see the fruits of their efforts in the 17 year old boy this year. He is turning into a very nice young man. I was especially impressed this Christmas with his ability to recognize a need and offer his help. I was in the middle of assembling my potato dish on Christmas Eve, and had to sit down to rest my sore knees. He immediately offered to finish it for me, and did, with minimal supervision. Both boys cooperated (maybe not the best word – competed is probably better) to make the berry trifle for dessert. They also assisted with dog walking and snow shoveling during their visit.

Something that always baffled me was when a parent of a high schooler said they didn’t know their child was a poor reader. 😯 How could you not know?
LikeLiked by 2 people
They never bothered to invest any time making sure their kids could.
One of my earliest memories is going to the bookstore with my family. We didn’t always get a book, but sometimes we did. In fact, frequently we did. Looking back, I don’t know how much money my parents spent on new books when we were younger. All of us kids can read, and I’m a massive bibliophile. So I daresay it had the desired effect.

Agreed. I actually do not have children yet (I just realized that I may have caused some confusion on that point further up-thread), but I remember my parents reading to us too, especially Bible readings before bed.

I general, maybe the positive stories are not reported that often because the people are modest, and the news gets better ratings from bad stories. Hmmm The Foundation for a Better Life just had a blurb on radio – will have to look into them.

My husband was always adamant that we not solve the boys’ problems for them, large or small. I confess there were times where he stopped me from helping them, which wound up being very good for them. I don’t think I would have had the backbone it took to raise strong young men alone, as a young mother.
He was excellent at giving them difficult tasks that could be made much easier by working smarter, and he was also good at nudging them in a direction but not telling them what to do if he felt they needed to reason things out.

Big smiles for such a good Dad! I am very happy for you all. 🙂 There ARE differences between the sexes, even in parenting styles. Wasn’t there an article at the Treehouse a couple of years ago about how young male elephants were going rogue and attacking everything in sight somewhere in Africa? They then brought in older males, and the younger males straightened right out! Not much different with people.

Dyan Cannon is a tiny little thing (so Willie must be also unless she’s got on four inch boots). Her family and my boss’s family were friends and I’d see her occasionally when she came in to visit. Nice lady.
In this film, the younger brunette woman in the audience is Amy Irving, Steven Spielberg’s first wife. The older brunette woman is Priscilla Pointer, who in real life is Amy’s mother. I never met Amy, but I did work with Priscilla behind the scenes in episodic television shows occasionally back in the 70s. Also nice lady with a sweet disposition.

Dyan Cannon is listed as 5’5″ (Gee, how tall are you? {snicker}) and Willie Nelson is listed at 5’6″. I knew he wasn’t very tall, but I didn’t realize he was that short. I used to be 5’4″ and never considered myself as tiny. Probably because my sister is 4’11”, my best friend 5′, my mother 5’1″, my grandmothers on each side under 5′.

No way is she 5’5″. More like 5’2″. I was 5’7-1/2 but now am 5’6.”

Well, I think it was Celeb Heights where I found that.

Could easily be correct and she just seemed tiny to me. LOL!
Now that I think of it, I wasn’t standing next to her when we were introduced the first time but was sitting at my desk. I do remember she dressed beautifully but not overdressed and that great mound of fab hair was done becomingly.

Sometimes a person can just be small boned and tiny and seem larger or smaller than they are.

I’m 5’0″, and I’m hanging onto to every millimeter I can! Don’t tell me I’m shrinking! I manage every year to get to 5 feet at the doc’s office.

Most of the time my height wasn’t checked at doctor visits, just the weight. About four years ago the nurse measured me and said I was 5’6″. I said, “Oh, no, that’s wrong. I’ve been 5’7-1/2” since I was a senior in high school. The nurse measured again and said, “You’re 5’6”. I said, “I’ve shrunk!” LOL!

Don’t forget Fred’s sister, Adele. His first dance partner, she became the toast of English Edwardian society, and retired to marry Lord Charles Cavendish, the second son of the 9th Duke of Devonshire in 1932. Quite an interesting woman:

Might as well put in Fred’s second wife, Robyn. He was a widower and she a horse race jockey when they met…
And my kind of man…a dog lover…

I’m only a few minutes into it, but one the principles that was surely a part of their on ‘n on living and planning, etc. was the acceptance of the idea that maintenance and care of these events and places took TIME – and they did not begrudge that time.
Even in everyday responsibilities in my home, I notice the difference when I do routine tasks with a generosity of spirit (willing to ‘let go’ of the time it takes) or when I do a task in a rush – just wanting to get it done and move on. Much more satisfying to be willing to give the time.

Hm. I think that is what I am missing….generosity of spirit. I can add that to being a procrastinator.

I copied this recipe. Adding onions to shopping list! 😉 I wonder if just a TINY touch of hot chilies – just TINY would also work well.

Just ran across this lovely quote from Agatha Christie…not sure if she said it or one of her characters did….
“It is a curious thought, but it is only when you see people looking ridiculous that you realise just how much you love them.”
(I didn’t realize until typing this that “realise” is the Brit spelling. LOL!)

I meant to post this over Christmas, but, uh…other things happened to me during that time. So here you go.
It’s older video of Crowder’s but it’s amazing how well it aged: “I don’t work at Target. Target sucks.”

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

Oh my! The last of the kids’s and their families departed for home and other places about 8:30 this evening. I just enjoyed a dirty martini that I have been looking forward to for three weeks.
I love my kids and grandkids, but it’s nice to know they are safe and sound and home, today and those who will be home tomorrow. This year I only have 4 sets of dirty sheets and 3 comforters in the wash. Last year due to sadircumstances there were 7 comforters in the wash.
This grandma isnow very mellow, a tad tipsy, and sleepy. Good night all, and God bless you and yours. Merry Christmas.

On top of it all, I’m feeling very little pain. Dirty martinis should be sold OTC to relieve grandmas stiff joints. 🙂
