You are so right, lovely. Sled dogs love to pull and are happier on the gangline than anywhere else. These look like they have some hound bred into them, favored by some mushers to give their dogs longer legs. But it also often gives the dogs shorter coats which are not as cold tolerant. These dogs look like they have some German Short-haired Pointer genes.

My guess, but I think the flat land is ice, and that’s Alaska.

I can see it is snow by the dogs feet it just looks almost desert like to me. Probably Alaska, I think it is beautiful. And you’re probably right it is likely a frozen lake.

Gee! you dogs, Gee! (command to bear right) Great photo, Stella. Likely a frozen lake or river with 2-3″ of snow cover. Ideal for fast mushing as long as the temps are 10 degrees above freezing or colder. If it is in the 20s that snow could be hiding thin ice, which is dangerous. I agree, likely Alaska and likely the western half (my territory) where the low mountains give way to flat tundra. But could be Canada also. Interesting to note the musher is driving a traditional stick sled made of steam-bent wood and not a new-fangled aluminum and plastic sled. Great coats on the dogs, and no booties on their feet. Those are some tough pullers. I would bet they are doing 10-12 miles per hour, which is a rocket pace.

Sheesh. I meant 10 degrees above zero, not above freezing. Ideal mushing temperature range is 10 below to 10 above.
