It may get below 10 degrees a night or two next week. Which I, and most of my fellow Southerners, consider to be the equivalent of 40 below in Alaska or somewhere.
The whining, bitching, and bellyaching on Facebook is gathering momentum. And we might even get some snow.
I have a fine plan though. While everyone is at the grocery store fighting over the last loaf of bread, gallon of milk, and roll of toilet paper (not jesting, little old blue haired ladies have experience on their side and almost always get the prize) I am going to the liquor store where I can breeze through unobstructed.

It was 4 degrees here last night, and 11 degrees right now. High of 14 this afternoon. Sun is out, though, and the snow has finally stopped.

Morning, lovely! It isn’t supposed to get below 20 degrees today, though there is snow on the ground and more coming this evening and tomorrow. So pretty seeing the snow on the pines.

It was very nice. We got our grandson a little tikes car, because he’s all things cars and trains right now. He thought having a car to drive around in was the most amazing thing ever. So cute! He said it was a “cool car”. LOL! (He’ll be two at the end of January.) Anyway, it was a very fun holiday, especially seeing it through his eyes. I’m glad yours was wonderful, too!

Thanks I did. My girls were here for Christmas eve and then we drove down to my mom’s house for Christmas day. Your grandson and my great nephew sound like they could be twins.
Other than over doing it on the Christmas cookies 🙄all went well.
One of my favorite parts of Christmas is the drive down to my parents house, back roads, mostly farmland and forest with towns here and there. It always makes me reflective about how quickly the time is passing. I think of the changing seasons, my changing family, loved ones lost, new ones born.

Several years ago, when I first came down to take care of my mom, there were several medical disasters which precluded buying an actual Christmas tree. At the last minute, family and I decided that medical disasters were not a good excuse for canceling Christmas and we decided to gather here despite the short notice.
But what to do about a Christmas tree? The tree was always a big deal and something we HAD to have. Before everyone got here, I played my favorite carols for inspiration. And, in the true spirit of Christmas Miracles, I came up with The Christmas Twig. Trimmings from the very beautiful Crepe Myrtles on the property. This year it was rather large – but still beautiful in its own way.

Thanks, Menagerie. I like it because the ornaments are so pretty on their own and don’t have to compete with the greenery. OTOH, we have to supplement that piney smell by boughs on the table and sprinkled around the house. Bonus: The twig doesn’t shed so it gets to stay up a lot longer than a tree!

This would get me a tongue lashing from some Catholics, but I took all my stuff except the Nativity scenes down yesterday. Nowadays the Church is trying to emphasize to people, and rightly so, that the birth of Jesus is so important, so huge, it should be celebrated for an octave, 8 days, and people leave their stuff up until Epiphany in January.
When my kids were growing up, all they did was light candles,and not emphasize Advent being a time of preparation, different from the Christmas season. Somewhere along the line, I chose to put my tree up the first Sunday of Advent, and our family, like most, came up with ways to teach our kids about the Nativity.
So, I’m sticking to my habits, unpopular though they may be. I can still celebrate the Christmas season without all the decorations.
Actually, I was thinking this morning that this part of Christmas, the Twelve Days, is the best part, peaceful and slowed down. I am beginning to like it best, and the dread of taking down the tree and packing away the decorations is behind me. It only takes about an hour to pack away stuff, but for some reason it is a chore I hate so much that I try to get it behind me quickly.

Thats so pretty. You know even hanging some twigs from the ceiling and having a whole room done would be neat. Or going all Charlie Brown and having a giant red ball on another twig would be fun. As far as smell goes, I bought Christmas tree fragrance sticks that have hangers attached this year.

We used to have this dopey chocolate lab we found out near where my husband works. He was huge, slow, and really danged aggravating, but we loved the big dope.
He was around two or three when we found him, the vet said, but he still chewed up all kinds of stuff.
I decided for the first Christmas we had him that a tree would not be safe at all. I found a half tree online that you could hang on the wall. I figured that would be ideal for us. Box was delivered while I was out. He ate it up. The end, as Wee says.

Oh my. My artificial tree has pine cones and artificial berries on it. Or should I say had? My grandson and I took all the berries off the bottom half of the tree, because both Tucker and the cat like to eat them. Now he has taken several ornaments off the tree and tried to eat them. I think the tree is coming down tomorrow. Will be the shortest time I’ve had it up – 4 days.

The Bible reading today at biblegateway.com is the first two verses of Psalm 103. Here’s the full chapter from a new translation called “The Voice”….
A song of David.
1 O my soul, come, praise the Eternal
with all that is in me—body, emotions, mind, and will—every part of who I am—
praise His holy name.
2 O my soul, come, praise the Eternal;
sing a song from a grateful heart;
sing and never forget all the good He has done.
3 Despite all your many offenses, He forgives and releases you.
More than any doctor, He heals your diseases.
4 He reaches deep into the pit to deliver you from death.
He crowns you with unfailing love and compassion like a king.
5 When your soul is famished and withering,
He fills you with good and beautiful things, satisfying you as long as you live.
He makes you strong like an eagle, restoring your youth.
6 When people are crushed, wronged, enslaved, raped, murdered,
the Eternal is just;
He makes the wrongs right.
7 He showed Moses His ways;
He allowed His people Israel to see His wonders and acts of power.
8 The Eternal is compassionate and merciful.
When we cross all the lines, He is patient with us.
When we struggle against Him, He lovingly stays with us—changing, convicting, prodding;
9 He will not constantly criticize,
nor will He hold a grudge forever.
10 Thankfully, God does not punish us for our sins and depravity as we deserve.
In His mercy, He tempers justice with peace.
11 Measure how high heaven is above the earth;
God’s wide, loving, kind heart is greater for those who revere Him.
12 You see, God takes all our crimes—our seemingly inexhaustible sins—and removes them.
As far as east is from the west, He removes them from us.
13 An earthly father expresses love for his children;
it is no different with our heavenly Father;
The Eternal shows His love for those who revere Him.
14 For He knows what we are made of;
He knows our frame is frail, and He remembers we came from dust.
15 The children of Adam are like grass;
their days are few;
they flourish for a time like flowers in a meadow.
16 As the wind blows over the field and the bloom is gone,
it doesn’t take much to blow us out of the memory of that place.
17 But the unfailing love of the Eternal is always and eternal
for those who reverently run after Him.
He extends His justice on and on to future generations,
18 To those who will keep His bond of love
and remember to walk in the guidance of His commands.
19 The Eternal has established His throne up in the heavens.
He rules over every seen and unseen realm and creature.
20 Adore Him! Give Him praise, you heavenly messengers,
you powerful creatures who listen to
and act on His every word.
21 Give praise to the Eternal, all armies of heaven—
you servants who stand ready to do His will.
22 Give praise to the Eternal, all that He has made
in all corners of His creation.
O my soul, come, praise the Eternal!

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
