Looks like the planned ‘working visit’ between Trump and PM May is off. WH cancelled…errr, moved its happening indefinitely forward…after May went all hissy fit over Trump’s retweeting videos of real Islamic terror. Apparently May has bubbled over that he dares add credence to documented acts of Moslem terrorism and give her murdering, Judeo-Christian hating thugs an even more worser name than they have.
Many believe that Brit progs staged this to prevent a trade deal between Britain and the US so that the Brexit deal without US will look worse economically to the British Brexit supporters. May needed an excuse to dump the trade deal that Trump would have brought and his using his bully tweet pulpit to exercise his First Amendment rights was it. 240 years later Britain’s still trying to quash the Colonial’s free speech.
Meanwhile, Ms May’s Moslem house rats whom she so lovingly protects are calling for for their followers in the US to murder US children: http://www.newsweek.com/isis-targeting-us-children-revenge-syrian-airstrikes-726373

Youtube has redacted a number of videos showing Moslem terrorists murdering innocent people and completely removed ISIS’s latest video calling for Trump’s murder. Guess Google doesn’t want to get a stinging tweet from May.

Like those infamous potato chips, you can’t post just one…
Egyptian officials have arrested, tried, convicted and jailed two out of three (one was a minor) students and their teacher for blasphemy after they made a video parodying an ISIS beheading. Seems there’s some sort of a law against portraying a beheading (guess they only approve of real ones) while the main charge was their parody insulted religion (Islam). Interesting that a band of murderous thugs, who just two years ago released a film showing their executing over 20 Egyptians, as Islamic. In gratitude ISIS attacked the Gaza mosque killing over 200 more Egyptians.

One day a long time ago, a friend of mine visited from New York. It was August, and I had a big basket of beautiful tomatoes. I offered him a tomato sandwich. He said, “Whaaaat?”
Nothing better than ripe tomato on good bread and butter, maybe a little salt. Mayo too, if you like it.

Totally agreed, especially if it’s ripened on your own plant and not one picked green somewhere in the Southwest and ripened in transit. Even mo’ betterer is fresh, homemade mayo.

Brits seem to have short memories. It was the US-Brit Lend-Lease that provided Britain vital supplies which kept it afloat in WW II. After WWII the US loaned them $3.75-billion (a lotta money in those days) as it was essentially bankrupt and couldn’t support its overseas functions while spinning up its new and huge social welfare program. Loan wasn’t totally repaid until 2006.
We save their fop butts and they spit in our pockets.

And my favorite; Daylight bombing. Over 100,000 8th AF airmen made the supreme sacrifice. Yeah thanks Winny Churchill…….
LikeLiked by 4 people
The 8th had the highest casualty/POW rate of any major unit in WWII, the US did the daylight bombing while the RAF did the night.
We also have the buried incident of Churchill forcibly, some by bludgeoning, the Cossacks who fought, for Germany, against Stalin at the end of WWII. Thousands were forced to return, with America and Britain both knowing that the Cossack men, women and children would all be murdered by Stalin’s political police within days of their return. Understood as part of the deal made at Yalta to return the Cossacks was the understanding that all Allied POWs ‘liberated’ by Russian forces ar Stalags the overran would be returned to Allied hands. Very reliable sources (backed by German and Red Cross records) point to as many as 25,000 Allied POWs, many 8th AF, never being returned/accounted for. State and DoD using the public’s obeisance to the post-war government and all of the classifications at hand, to bury the issue long enough to where it was almost forgotten…sorta like the Korean War and Vietnam POWs.

Thanks Impeach. Martin’s cabin is great; must be somewhere in Alaska or Canada, wonder where? I can’t believe he has such a large pane of glass in the door. Lets in lots of light and a good view of the approach of critters or people, but even if it is Alaska standard triple pane it allows a lot of heat loss. basically grits boiled and set to solidify and then sliced and fried in CRISCO or something totally unhealthy, drained, and then covered with maple syrup…for breakfast.

Taaa DAAAAA! We got the last boards in by lamplight, but we got them in. The carpenter stood back and admitted that he had been skeptical of my plan. Then he said, “It’s more like an art installation than a porch rebuild.”
We removed each board from the old porch – they were varying lengths, widths and depths of cabinet grade old pine covered in at least six layers of paint. While I did try to alternately scrape, sand and plane off the layers, it was obvious that was going to be a toxic slow slog. So I flipped the boards to the ‘rough’ side, planed off at least seventy years of dirt and dust and then stained them using about four quarts of various stain colors. Which turned out to be a toxic slow slog. Go Figure.
The old brick is original. The paint line shows where the old ceiling was. Since we decided to vault the new ceiling, I thought it might look pretty cool to just leave it alone. I am just so pleased with the outcome!

Lotta very old shotguns being torn down/in/around NOLA and smart folks are collecting the wood from them. Back in the 90s we got tapped to tear down some old shotguns and camel backs over 100 years old. They were largely built out of cypress and two-by-fours were really 2 by 4, not some standardized downsized version. The floors were pine from north of the lake and professional floor companies were doing what you’re doing, cleaning it and recycling it.
With a hundred years or more on it the wood’s stone hard and the grain’s really set in. Some of the ritzy houses we’d work during the Christmas tours had beautiful recycled pine floors from old-growth (when they were cut over a hundred years ago) longleaf pines. Gorgeous. Wise to save what you already had.

In this old house, you can still see the adze marks on the support beams in the basement and the floor joists are true 2×6 red oak. At one point, I was replacing some moulding near a doorway that had rotted. When I removed the old wood I found a round log – complete with intact (and non rotted) bark.
Last year we renovated two bathrooms and had to remove the walls in the larger one in order to get the old iron bathtub out – it had been built in place – and yes, all the wood was true 2×4″. The artistry of building a wall back then is simply amazing to me. Such talent is difficult if not impossible to find anymore.

We were tearing down a 200+-year old camel back that had caught fire and 1/3rd had burned. The wood was cypress and when we hit it with sledge hammers it rand, didn’t go ‘thump’.
The top and bottom plates on all of the inside walls were 4×4, solid cypress and the spots where the 2×4 studs (also solid cypress) were attached were cut out of the plates, the studs fit into sockets – no tacky toe-nailing. BTW, the nails were all cut nails, no drawn wire.
The roof was amazing, all of the rafters were 2×10 solid cypress as was the ridge board – but it was one piece and well over twenty feet long. Every board was hand-cut (naturally) and nailed but also with notched cross pieces, everything held together by solid wood, butted boards forming the roof’s underlayment, no cheap plywood. It was a joy to see.

Ever tried to buy doors or windows for installation in a true 2×4 stud wall, usually with plastered walls? Most contractors never even think about standard jamb millwork not working. I have seen lots of fiascos happen in some of the old houses.

NOLA has a few custom window folks just for that reason. You try finding a good replacement window for a 200-year old house in a matching style at Home Depot.

By sheer coincidence today the Times Picayune Inside Out section has an article about a renovation in New Orleans where they used the same technique for a ceiling (see pictures at nola.com ). You are fashion forward!

Thanks for the tip, Czarina –
The incredible serendipity is that the carpenter I’m working with, who is truly a partner in this project, has been telling me for the past two weeks that now we need to put flagstone on the floor ‘to tie it all together’.
And that’s what they did in their reno!
I’ve actually been thinking about ‘marbeling’ the floor with some acrylic paint so now my brain is working overtime.

I am not exaggerating when I say that I am sure we would be arrested for abuse and neglect and only God knows what else if we raised our three sons today. First of all, they got plenty of spankings from both of us. Lots of discipline in other ways too.
And the three active boys would take off on their bikes in search of fishing holes, and there was a rock quarry a couple of miles away they found. That one we would have forbidden had we known about it. Didn’t find out until they were grown. Anyhow, they pushed the limits, and a lot of that was really good for them.
Kids cannot get strong without challenges to face, discipline to temper and teach respect and control, and a little adventure thrown in.

We got four swats with the belt for lying, and two for disobeying.
So usually we got six. Learned math at the same time.

In the hands of the litigators, no doubt. If it makes it to the Court we should see them…not in the MSM, of course.

If I read this right, it seems as though the person was playing music really loud and a neighbor called the cops. They came out once, then left, and were called out again. Problem not solved. The person then, instead of dealing with the situation, falls on his knees to pray. Sounds nuts to me, not a case of being denied prayer in his own home.

I have egg on my face. My Pandora was playing Marc Broussard’s cover of an Al Green song. LOL @ me. At least he was black enough to fool me. And that white boy sure did. Dude got some soul, in great measure.
One day at work a few years ago, I went down to the basement of our restaurant, to go hit “Still Listening” in Pandora on someone’s phone. A song by young Michael Jackson came up, but it showed up as Cheryl Crow. She nailed it, and I was the only one who knew, and everyone upstairs said it was Michael singing. Everyone was mistaken.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, if it is your will, we pray that Judge Roy Moore will win his bid for the Senate.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
