My son thinks this is great. Especially since I helped him discover the muppets. Since I have a cd guess what I listen to in the car daily?

Two of my my favorite versions of O holy Night, almost polar opposites but both filled with soul and beauty.

I like the second one best. I looked at many versions on YouTube the other day, and I like the traditional approach. My older sister Shirley trained for the opera, and had a beautiful soprano voice. She sang this at our church’s Christmas Eve services when I was a child, and I always think of her whenever I hear it.

I always think of the first time I heard it also when ever I hear it. I don’t think any version will ever sound as beautiful to me. I was about 14 and a girl about my age sang it a cappella, I was stunned at the pure beauty of the song and her voice.

I sang this in church when I was 14 or so. I was so scared I wouldn’t make it to the high note. But, I did. I always loved this.

this has been my favorite Christmas Carol for several years now. They also do an amazing version of Mary Did You Know.

Sorry about the Today show version. All the others had commercials.

These first lines say everything I feel about Christmas so very perfectly. This hymn gets played a lot at Midnight Mass, and I feel the holiness of the moment, it enables me to lose myself in the beauty and hope and glory of the liturgy. I feel the presence of the angels, and I remember that we are united with heaven in the participation of the mass.

For me, this is one of the most perfect hymns ever written. We are blessed to have a choir who can really do it justice, but for me, sung from the heart, I’ve never heard a less than beautiful version of it.

O holy night the stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new glorious morn
    Fall on your knees
    O hear the angels’ voices
    O night divine
O night when Christ was born
    O night divine o night
    O night divine
