I spent my day going to yard sales, one of my addictions. lol I ended up following a sign off the highway and ended up in the sticks, my favorite kind of yard sales. I missed the drive and went down to turn around in another drive and saw a sign that cracked me up:

Good Morning Stellars! Thank you Nyet for breakfast and for taking such pains for our morning feasts. It’s Friday!!!
“For Children: You will need to know the difference between Friday and a fried egg. It’s quite a simple difference, but an important one. Friday comes at the end of the week, whereas a fried egg comes out of a chicken. Like most things, of course, it isn’t quite that simple. The fried egg isn’t properly a fried egg until it’s been put in a frying pan and fried. This is something you wouldn’t do to a Friday, of course, though you might do it on a Friday. You can also fry eggs on a Thursday, if you like, or on a cooker. It’s all rather complicated, but it makes a kind of sense if you think about it for a while.” ~ Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt

A little trivia… 😉
As Herb Alpert remembers it, he was in a recording studio one day in 1965 when the art director for A&M, the label Alpert co-owned, showed him the photograph that would soon grace one of the most memorable LP covers of all time. “My first reaction was, ‘Holy shit, man. Too racy,’” Alpert says. “Obviously now it would hardly register, but at the time I thought, ‘Wow, that’s a little much.’ And I didn’t know, quite frankly, whether it reflected the album — the music I was doing at the time. But we decided to go with it. Obviously that was fortuitous.”
It was, because the LP in question, Whipped Cream & Other Delights, attributed to Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass, was his breakout album, and the photo in question was the now iconic shot of a seemingly nude, doe-eyed young woman sunk up to her décolletage in what appears to be a giant pile of the titular dessert topping. Looking askance at the camera, she touches a long cream-tipped finger to her lips. On her head is an added dollop of white, evoking, maybe, one of Billie Holiday’s signature gardenias. In her left hand she absently holds a long red rose, perhaps a sop to notions of traditional romance, or maybe an unneeded effort by the photographer to add color and more visual interest.
Herb Alpert’s ‘Love Affair’ Song Premiere: Listen Now
From a straight male point of view, and perhaps from others’, this was the sexiest album cover of the 1960s, as many then-adolescent boys can to this day vividly recall. Whether or not it accurately reflected Alpert’s gently swinging, mariachi-inflected instrumentals, the photo surely help propel Whipped Cream & Other Delights, released in 1965, into the number-one slot on Billboard’s list of top-selling LPs for 1966, beating out The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, Lou Rawls, and Barbra Streisand. This triumph wasn’t a fluke solely attributable to art direction: Alpert and the Tijuana Brass’s Going Places (also 1965) and What Now My Love (1966) held the third and fifth spots on the 1966 year-end chart despite pleasant yet far more anodyne covers. Two songs on Whipped Cream, “Lolllipops and Roses” and the album’s title song, became swingers’ anthems after they were used to play on contestants on ABC-TV’s The Dating Game.
According to Alpert, Whipped Cream also launched him as a lucrative touring act. (To that point the Tijuana Brass had been a loose group of studio musicians, mostly Wrecking Crew members, with Alpert overdubbing his own trumpet.) Fifty years later, he’s still recording and still on the road, including an upcoming two-week stand at Manhattan’s Cafe Carlyle, beginning May 31, with his wife, singer Lani Hall.
The Whipped Cream model was a Seattle woman named Dolores Erickson, now 80 (as is Alpert) and a working artist. Back in the early ’60s she ran in the same L.A. social circles as Alpert, along with Jerry Moss, his eventual partner at A&M, and, maybe most importantly, the label’s eventual art director, Peter Whorf. Erickson, who aside from her modeling career was also briefly under contract at Paramount — you can spot her, fleetingly, in Jerry Lewis’ The Ladies Man (1961) — remembers frequent jaunts to Tijuana with Alpert, then a songwriter and producer, and “our whole group” to see the bullfights. These excursions inspired Alpert’s hit single “The Lonely Bull,” which launched the Tijuana Brass sound in 1962. Erickson attended the recording session, in Alpert’s garage. “It was one of those wonderful experiences, being young, aspiring to success, everybody cheering everybody on,” she remembers.
By the time Whipped Cream came along in 1965, Erickson was an old hand at album shoots, having appeared on records for Nat “King” Cole, Stan Kenton, and the Kingston Trio, as well as an LP of Berlioz overtures, conducted by Sir Adrian Boult, for which she was photographed in close-up with flowers in her hair, looking vaguely like a Frida Kahlo self-portrait. The Whipped Cream shoot, both Erickson and Alpert say, was entirely Whorf’s concept. He shot it himself in his home studio, a converted garage. Erickson, who wore a bikini with the shoulder straps pushed down and hidden, was for the most part surrounded by cotton batting and many cans’ worth of shaving cream because actual whipped cream turned runny and smelly under hot lights. The real thing was used only on her head and on the index finger she touched to her lips.
Was it an odd assignment, trying to look enticing while sitting in a big pile of shaving cream? “It wasn’t unusual for me,” she insists. “I’d worked on a catamaran in the middle of a storm for a cigarette commercial. This was just another job. Peter always told me to make love to the camera. We just had a lovely time.” Adding to the not-really-very-sexy-at-all atmosphere was the fact that Erickson was three months pregnant with her son, Brett. How does he feel about having been an inadvertent participant in such a milestone of Baby Boomer erotica? “Oh you know how it goes,” Erickson says, laughing. “It’s just ‘mom.’”

Just for the record…
Dolores Erickson was born September 1935.
You do the math; but keep the memory alive. 😉

We females aren’t responsible for the perversions of predators. We are only responsible for our own actions, for being prepared and proactive in protecting ourselves and our families. We don’t want to assume the worst about anyone. It’s a fine line, but we must never think we have non-predators living near us who, when seeing an opportunity, will not take advantage of it.
For example, I once had a neighbor who allowed her three year old twin boys to play naked from the waist down in their front yard (on one occasion I saw one boy with nothing on). In Los Angeles. In a heavily trafficked neighborhood. Would we consider her responsible if her boys were abducted? I contend not for the abduction…but for her negligence in not being proactive in protecting her sons.
Using common sense is one of the first lines of defense. Another example…on Wednesday I went for a mid-day walk, locked my apartment when I left…returned, went about the rest of my day. Yesterday mid-day I opened my front door only to discover I’d left the keys in the lock for 24 hours. If someone had decided to use those keys to enter my home while I slept, would I be responsible for his actions? His choice would have been made easier by my negligence, even though his sins are his own.
We live in a fallen world. We should never assume for a moment it cannot affect us no matter how innocently or appropriately we present ourselves.

I have left my key in the door, too.

Last sentence, first paragraph: …we must never think we don’t have predators living near us who…
Another example…an elderly friend of mine heard a knock on her front door. She opened it, feeling safe because her screen door was well-secured. The young man had a card which indicated he was a gardener and he said he was looking for work. She told him she already had a gardener. He asked if she would take his card anyway. She said yes and opened the screen door to take the card. He quickly pulled the screen door open, pushed her to the floor, drug her by her hair into the hallway and raped her.
No way in the world would I ever say she was responsible for this young man’s actions. A momentary decision to forego the natural instinct to protect herself came to the fore because he seemed such a nice young man, completely friendly, well-dressed for the job of gardening. By a miracle, he did not recover the card which was legit and the police were able to pick him up that same day.
Never assume anything. Always be proactive.

In the WSJ Paula Marantz Cohen says sure what Harvey Weinstein is alleged to have done is awful but ;
Where were all these people who now say they were aware of his behavior a year, a decade, a quarter-century ago? Too afraid to speak up then but empowered to do so now when there is a chorus to back them up. It’s more like a lynch mob than a witch hunt. A lynch mob is still a lynch mob, even when its target is guilty.
The problem here goes beyond Harvey Weinstein. It is a symptom of a kind of responsiveness that has permeated this country on many levels and on many fronts. When the media becomes judge and jury, groupthink sets in and the mob expresses its indignation. No one is allowed to doubt or to express sympathy.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/theres-no-virtue-in-joining-an-angry-mob-1508454317
Really? Is she disturbed by the lynch mob that has been lying about, attacking and trying to destroy President Trump? She wrote an article about how Shakespeare would feel about Donald Trump but there is a paywall, yes she is one of those elitist, egotistical dullards that you would jump off a second story balcony to get away from if she were to corner you at a party.
So has Paula Marantz Cohen written about the “We hate Trump” lynch mob? Of course not she is part of it.
Tucked right into her hypocritical squawking is this little nugget “I am upset by what is happening in our country today. I don’t like the mean-spirited way our president behaves and expresses himself.” Seems it is ok for her to be part of the lynch mob spewing hate and lies about our president but holds her nose around people who say that Harvey Weinstein in a disgusting perverted predator.
These people are vile filthy spawns of The Lie.

The building looks like a little church, but it is actually a lighthouse.

I was wondering if it was a lighthouse. Very neat.

Thanks Stella.
Head Keepers: Thomas Wilson (1868 – 1870), Napoleon Beedon (1870 – 1873), Frank Beland (1873 – 1880), Joseph Bridges (1880 – 1886), George McGregor (1886 – 1893), George Prior (1893 – 1908)
Just imagine the lives they led.
My friend’s grandfather and great grandfather were both the Head Keepers of a lighthouse on one of the smaller islands around Washington Island in WI. I can’t remember which one so I’ll have to ask him. The family still has homes on Washington Island.

The winters must really be rough in those lighthouses!

Can you imagine? My friends have gone up to their house for Thanksgiving some years and the ferry goes through the icy waters. Some of the houses on Washington Island still don’t have heat other than fireplaces.
Imagine being right on the coast year around back in the 1800’s.
Brrrrrr……

Imagine being in one through a hurricane? 😯 I am sure they had to do that. They wouldn’t know it was coming.

Well, the lighthouses on the Great Lakes don’t generally get hurricanes, although they do get some pretty fierce storms. There was this one:
Problem is that is was a snow hurricane.

😯 Snow hurricane? That was some storm. I can only imagine what it would be like to be on a ship in something like that. I was on a cruise ship when we were hit broadside with a heavy wind and it tipped the ship. Life vests and deck chairs went over the side and the pool dumped water into the elevators and down the stairs. That was bad enough for me.

That’s pretty bad!

It was pretty scary. We were on the deck outside of the restaurant and an officer threw the door open and said very authoritatively, “Ladies, go inside.” I didn’t ask why, I just got up and went in. It was a minute or so later that it hit. I held onto a pipe under the window to keep from sliding across the floor. So, it was a while before we found out about all the other damage. Well, except for all the dishes hitting the floor behind us, etc. Good thing nobody was in the pool or they might have gone over the side.

A painter amazed churchgoers in an surprise performance when he stepped in to save the day at a lunchtime concert. Father-of-two John Pierce brought tears to the eyes of a dazzled audience as he sang famous opera songs perfectly. Father of two, John Pierce was decorating inside a Church in Essex with his father-in-law Jim Earls. The Maldon United Reformed Church holds a free monthly lunchtime concert for people in the town, but last week’s performance was plunged into doubt after the planned act fell ill.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

I just finished watching Taking Chance. It was made in 2009. I highly recommend it. I hadn’t heard of it before today. I watched it on Amazon Prime, but I think it is available other places. Tissue alert. I started crying at the opening credits. 🙄 But, that’s just me. A Marine volunteers to escort a fallen brother home. No Hollywooding, such as extraneous sex, violence, etc.
“All of us felt this movie was one of the most powerful and moving films we’ve ever seen. Although there is a tie to the war in Iraq, this is not yet another political statement on the issues around the war.”
