Stella, your lead photo shows such a lovely scene. Here’s a website with letter from Lord AlfredTennyson regarding the Cornwall area: http://kimberlyevemusings.blogspot.com/2015/03/alfred-tennysons-thoughts-on-idylls-of.html
Another view by a photographer named Maniple about which he says, “I took this picture of Tintagel’s remains in November 2005.” It’s in the public domain, but I think it’s so well done that he deserves to have his name known.

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Sen. John McCain says doctors have given him a “very poor prognosis” as he battles brain cancer.
McCain underwent surgery in July for a brain tumor that was later found to be a form of glioblastoma, the same type of cancer that took the life of his former Senate colleague Edward M. Kennedy in 2009. McCain tells CBS’ “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday night that he thinks about Kennedy a lot. He says Kennedy continued to work despite the diagnosis and “never gave up because he loved the engagement.”
McCain says he has “feelings sometimes of fear of what happens,” but counters that with gratitude for having lived “had a great life.”
He adds: “it’s not that you’re leaving, it’s that you — that you stayed.”

Yup, state bribed Benson with a structured $400-million payout that will run thru 2026. It started to look to Benson like he could make more money elsewhere and it was being rumored that LA was loking to buy a franchise. Benson starts whining poor mouth and how he could make sooooooo much more money elsewhere like he’s down to his last hundred million.
State goes all gooey and gives him $400-million to keep the Saints here until st least 2026. Louisiana’s regularly the worst or next yo worst in the US for K thru 12 education, has an indant mortality rate that’s touted to be at the level of sone 3rd world nations, has a 27% rate of poverty for children, has more residents in prison/jail than anynother state….and the list goes on. Thst $400-million is earmarked do it gets allocated before money for things like food, medical care, education money, all those unnecessary things that get in the way of football.

I have always thought states and cities were really stupid that they bend over backwards for professional sports, giving away taxpayers money and residents property for a stupid stadium.

It’s about the bragging rights and status in having an NFL team, the BS is that the team attracts money in the form of businesses that want to be in the same city as an NFL team. We got the double BS razzle dazzle when the city was talked into also putting out the cash needed to get a NBA team…we were told about the rare honor of having two major league sports teams…even if both are sorta looserish.
We got the same smoke job some years back about having a pro hockey team until they figured out that there were more workers in the part-time stadium than fans.
Benson tried to get the then broke city and financially reeling state to tear down the Superdome and build a totally new one, something the state and city couldn’t do without going belly up…state’s credit rating was already taking a beating. Goid Old Boys in the state legislature who enjoyed watching the games from exclusive sky boxes used state and FEMA monies to do a major upgrade to the Dome and pay that $400-million bribe.

Dear Mike Tomlin, James Harrison, Ben Roethlisberger and another Steeler who feels a need to criticize Bronze Star recipient Alejandro Villanueva for honoring the flag that his brothers came home under, you can all go to hell.
On Sunday your team had 3 options, stand and support America, sit/kneel and disrespect America or 3 take the coward’s way out and abstain, vote present, hide in the tunnel because you were too afraid to be seen as pro-American or Anti-American. What a vile low cany-ass choice you made.
“I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team.” Tomlin told reporters.
Your team does not come before America.
Why should anyone be forced to act in a way that is against their moral code ? The poor boys millionaire club could not all agree on whether or not to disrespect America so you hid. We Americans understand. Trust me.
Let the kneelers kneel, the sitters sit, the patriots stand, own your beliefs. Own your side. Everyone with a working knowledge of the contract law knows that the players disrespecting America could have been fined in accordance with their contract.
Remember Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf? He was fined $30,000 after disrespecting the flag and choosing to sit on his butt during the anthem. Once he was fined he worked out a compromise and stood, he recited Islamic prayers under his breath bit he did not disgrace his team by directing the American flag, the anthem, America herself.
The administrative branch of the NFL is tax exempt. I hope that exemption is revoked. The entire league is subsidized with billions of tax payers dollars, for what, so you can spit in the faces of the people who support you. No more.
You have backed the wrong horse. Sometimes not choosing a side is choosing through omission.
You’ve taken something that unites Americans of every color, creed and religion and managed to divide them through your cowardliness and fear of offending the “wrong ” people. Fine them or fire them this is behavior that is covered in their contracts “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.”
Honoring 9/11 is detrimental, wearing pink in your hair to honor breast cancer survivors and casualties is detrimental, twerking is detrimental but dishonoring the American flag is not detrimental to the integrity of the NFL. Hypocrites. You lousy lowlife mamby-pamby money grubbing cowardly political correct assholes can all go to hell.
Your decision to hide in the tunnel is disgusting and cowardly. Your decision to criticize Alejandro Villanueva a war veteran, a man who fought for your freedom, a man who saved lives, a man who was willing to lay his life down for you, a bronze heart recipient is beyond words.
Mike Tomlin, James Harrison, Ben Roethlisberger and any Steeler who has the audacity to criticize or question Alejandro Villanueva standing for the National Anthem, choosing country over his team, you are what is wrong with America. As a team you boys get a ball from one of a field to another and celebrate. As a man Villanueva rescued wounded soldiers while under enemy fire and you cowardly clown hiding in a tunnel because you could’t decide whether or not to stand or sit for the American flag have the misguided intrepidity to criticize Villanueva’s dedication to America?
I hope my fellow Americans pray with me for a holy curse on your team, that you not win a single game for the rest of the season. I hope that you lose your tax exempt status, I hope you rethink your disgusting words and actions.
May the souls of the faithfully departed brothers and sisters who came home under the American flag haunt your every moment.
Sincerely,
Fed up American.

One of my thoughts is pitiful by comparison, but here it is:
Steelers coach said he wanted to keep the team in the locker room during the National Anthem to “protect” them.
“Protection” sounds like a racket.
Al Villanueva decided honoring The Flag was more important than being “protected”.
Sales of his jersey have skyrocketed.

In the Pittsburgh team meeting they couldn’t decide whether to support or diss the nation, but they wanted solidarity. So they chose to collectively diss the flag and the anthem rather than tell all the players to keep politics out of it and honor the nation which has done so much for them.
They haven’t decided yet what to do about Villanueva not making the team decision 100%. I wonder if the team will fine him for going with love of country and not love of disinformation about America. Will they try the rest of the season to force him to comply with their demands–you bet they will.
Are these people sick-minded or what!
BTW, Villanueva’s team jersey is a brisk sale right now.

Take every city that has an NFL team and see what the percentage of children living in poverty is. Take every city that has an NFL team and see what the direct and hidden fiscal advantages the team gets from the state in the areas of subsidies and tax benefits. See what the nean NFL team player salaries are compared to the mean salaries in their respective cities…even without figuring in the almost $6.5-billion NFL profits that will be split amongst the almost 1800 players. Seem to be kneeling before the god of hypocrisy.

It’s a hot topic locally and the BGI here crosding their fingers and saying the players were just demonstrating/protesting and they have a right to do so. Once again the BGI resorts to twisting the truth to make a point, getting as close to a lie as they can.
The BGI has used the ‘protest/demonstration’ BS to excuse everything from minor thongs to burning provate budinesses and have used ‘protest/demonstration’ to egg on and justify attacks against police. Let’s see them turn that anger against the sctirs in their black communites who break the common norms of civilized behavior and clean them up before complaining about alleged minor slights from the outside.

Remember the album cover for Bat out of Hell? I only ever saw it as a kid in Jr. High, in the junk mail Record Club booklets, and never actually heard it. I always assumed it must be really, really heavy metal stuff, like Megadeth or Slayer or something, based on the album art.
The art certainly didn’t match the music, when I finally heard it in my late teens.
Not by a long shot. It’s as if Simply Red made an album called “Kill ’em All”, and then it turned out to be a nice, soft, groovy soul album.

Just a joy to watch! Love her expressive faces. You’re not a guitarist until you get that “stank-face” when you’re playing from the soul. That face that looks like you’re smelling a fart. They don’t call it funk for nothing.

I cannot wait to see the NFL’s Super Bowl stadium half-empty. They’re going to have to pay the homeless, and feed them beer and food, to fill that stadium.
And the Neilson ratings like the Limbo dance. Sorry, advertisers, but you backed the wrong horse.
America wakes up, slowly. Trump just lit the fuse that will wake them up more effectively, because he knew what the reaction would be.
People, right now, are abandoning the NFL, because there are many, many other options available for entertainment and distraction and hobbies. Same reason I abandoned TV and Hollywood. I knew they all hated me and my kind 15 years ago. Football fans are just now, late to the game (as it were), realizing that all these overgrown children playing a child’s game with a ball for $25M per year hate them, too, and all that they stand for.
I want to see a half-empty Super Bowl stadium.

Via OregonMuse on the Morning Rant at AoSHQ this morning:
Progressives are such mindless kneejerks, PDT should spend the next weekend tweeting condemnations of child molesting, female genital mutilation, and setting little babies on fire. Then sit back and watch progressives fall all over themselves defending child molesting, female genital mutilation, and setting little babies on fire.
Trump knows this. Whatever he condemns, they will defend. Whatever he defends, they will condemn. He’s like Johnny in The Devil Went Down to Georgia. He knows how to play that fiddle better than they do.

Another one of those moments you wish this guy would fall into the Thames and no one notices…

“They [the Islamic State] say that there is a clash of civilisations, it is not possible to be a Muslim and a westerner, and the west hates us.”
Hey, Khan? Trump and ISIS are both telling the truth here.
You need to go back.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
And, Lord, we pray for all the people who have been affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

I have never been a huge NASCAR fan, although I always did like Earnhardt, but I’ve never liked his son. I like him even less now.

I think he may have had one concussion too many. NASCAR fans are just a little crazy but the majority are very patriotic, he already ticked many off earlier by his comments on the travel ban. He may think he’s retiring this year so he has nothing to lose, but he’s part owner of JR motorsports and NASCAR fans as well as racing fans in general know that and they tend to not forget and it will suffer if he doesn’t learn to shut his trap.

Disappointing. My husband loved his dad, too. He was a good guy.
