    After reading the other day about the ISIS terrorists having left some of their children behind in the rubble of Mosul…just left them there to die (I believe they all were girls)…and the little children’s rescue, I googled for other stories about the children ISIS held captive, most of which are too gruesome to post. However, I did find this inspirational story of another rescue….

      Modern prog Europeans don’t attach cultural significance to historical structures like their parents and grandparents did…they’re to modern, too 21st century. Problem is they’re dealing with a 7th century religion that not only attaches great historical and cultural significance to these structures but also their being reoccupied and converted to Islamic functions. It’s a sign of the militant religion retaking its previously occupied lands.
      Remember after 911 when Islamic fundamentalists were openly talking about retaking Spain asSpain was and should be Islamic territory? Spain’s Reconquista is only about 525 years past, a mere hiccup for a religion that celebrates its revulsion with civilized progress, they want (as George Carlin would put it) their Shiite back. As for France, their getting control of Martel’s grave would be a major coup in itself.
      The train of darkness continues to drive on as civilization lays itself on the tracks.

    Our house in NOLA’s just a couple of blocks from the Mississippi, and there’s a huge levee along the river to contain it. During high water the top of the river’s only about ten feet below the levee’s top as the river’s very wide at that point. We’d look up the street and see huge ocean-going ship’s parked right up along the levee or sailing past at levels above our heads. We’d go down and sit on the river side of the levee with a drink and/or snack and see ship’s anchored close enough to hit with a rock…sometimes you’d have crewmembers working the decks who’d wave at you.

      For years I took the ferry across the Mississippi from NOLA to Chalmette, wasn’t the fastest way to get to work even though it was the shorterest.
      I’d try for the smaller ‘sports’ ferry as it was driven by a captain we called ‘Miller the Killer’. He’d do fun stuff like if there were a big ship coming upriver and making a wake he’d head the ferry into the wake at an angle and the uninitiated who’d left the safety of their cars to ride the bow rails would get hit with a wave that would drench them…you’d see those in the know frantically winding up their windows to stay dry as they watched the drowning.
      My 2nd fav was when he’d get that ferry bow close enough to an incoming or outgoing ship to where you’d darn near be able to reach out and touch it. My 1st fav was when there’d be two ships, on going in and one going out. He’d dart into the area between them and hold his position as they went by on either side, this was the uber treat for regular riders. One day he did that and a mucky-muck from the DoT was onboard. After the bureaucrat changed his drawers he got to the bosses and……no more fun morning ferry rides.

    With all the “alt” everything jargon…perpetrated I suppose by the great wise and clever memesters of this generation and their worshippers…..I guess we need to Alt Friday and ALT all the days of the week to make them ALL DIFFERENT AND BETTERS than the old past weekday designation because we are so progressively evolving into Different Culturally But Diverse and Wonderful, thank you very much.

    Whenever I see ALT something….I just stop reading or paying attention….so pervasive has become this behavior pattern of the current HIPSTER COOL folks that have taken the internet and social media for their playground, instead of actually living a real life in the actual atmosphere and terra firma……..

    So alt me some eggs and bacon so I can alt acidify my refluxes……rant over.

    then came football..
    then came too rich to be normal
    then came criminal behavior by the great sports players who could make a basket or a goal, but had no brainpower of social values…..
    money substituted for adulthood and citizenry.
    long live sports for money….the conclusive end game of public education for kids raised in single parent households on welfare.

    Four members of a crew filming a television reality show in downtown Oakland were robbed at gunpoint Monday night of $50,000 worth of equipment and personal items, according to a victim and authorities.

    The head of the crew said he was thrown up against a wall and that he and the other victims were forced to lay on the pavement, where the two robbers put guns to their heads and threatened them

    Chris Burns, 37, an independent director of photography for the AwesomenessTV production “This Is Summer,” a reality show that follows eight 17-year-olds growing up in the Bay Area, said Wednesday the robbery “was really, really scary. It’s the most terrifying robbery I’ve ever been a part of.”

    Sorry, I don’t buy it. This was Providence. This was a miracle. But the miracle was not complete. The other half of The Miracle That Literally Saved Western Civilization was yet to be created, and this is where director Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece begins.

    Mustering all of his second-to-none storytelling skills, Nolan breaks his narrative into three parts: the battle in the air (over Dunkirk to protect the trapped soldiers from Hitler’s deadly Luftwaffe), the sea (the armada of some 800 private boats sent to rescue the army) and land (the sitting duck soldiers on the beach).

    On a deeper level, Nolan uses each of these three fronts to explore, in the most emotionally moving way imaginable, the themes of survival, spirit, and sacrifice…

      I have seen the previews several times. I never liked war movies, but I think I might like to see this one. I won’t see it in the theater, however.

        We Were Soldiers was good, as I recall. I even saw that in the theater, one of the very rare times I have seen a film in the theater. Never finished Saving Private Ryan on video. Apocalypse Now is a masterpiece, and I only got around to watching it last winter. Full Metal Jacket, naturally, is a work of Genius. M*A*S*H was classic late-60s Hollywood subversion and blasphemy-chic. I only saw the film because it’s part of my M*A*S*H collection.

        There are many war movies that I’ve missed, I know. Those are off the top of my head.

        The animated Studio Ghibli film Grave of the Fireflies might be the saddest animated “war” film I’ve ever watched, akin to Schindler’s List in that it’s a film I don’t ever want to watch again.

          I can assure you I will never watch Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, or Grave of the Fireflies (which I had never heard of before). Too violent. I want to see Schindler’s List, but even if I manage, I will probably have to watch it in pieces. I did like M*A*S*H and I loved the TV series so much I bought the whole set because they don’t show it in order anymore.

            Grave of the Fireflies is more of a post-war film, after the bombing of Tokyo, from the perspective of a kid an his little sister. It’s not violent, though. I wept during the end-credits. I can’t say that for any American animated film. Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks don’t do Tragedy like Ghibli does. As someone here said (perhaps you) the other day, American animation is a product to be sold; Japanese animated film is art and literature, first and foremost — especially Ghibli.

            That was one of Ghibli’s first films. The rest (I have a box set of 15 or so) are considerably more upbeat and full of wonder.

            I have yet to see the American classics, which I should, like Tora! Tora! Tora!, etc., from the 50s and 60s. I’m sure there’s some good ones, and I’m sure the acting is top-notch.

              No, I didn’t get a canvas box. You’re one-up on me. LOL I just ordered the set a few weeks ago. I used to watch M.A.S.H. every night with my dad the year before he died. So, it has special meaning along with being one of the funniest shows ever on TV. And, I did see Tora! Tora! Tora! years ago.

                I watched the whole thing, perhaps twice, on television with my dad’s brother before he died. The station we watched on cable played them in order, every day. He was an EMS/Fireman for 15 years, so was a wealth of information and color commentary on it all.

                One year my folks sent both me and Uncle the canvas box set. I watched Uncle breathe his last in the hospital in which I was born, in 2012, as he had a Do Not Resuscitate order, after battling multiple forms of cancer. It’s hard for me to break out the M*A*S*H DVDs now, because of all the memories. I’ll never sell the set, though. Maybe someday I’ll watch them all again.

                  My mom had died and Dad’s cancer had come back and he was on hospice. He lived in the apartment connected to my house and I would go over and sit with him and watch an episode or two of M.A.S.H. every night before he went to sleep. It was one show that made him laugh. So, I have good memories of watching it with him. And, that is what I think of when I watch it now. Of course, I think I have probably seen the whole series at least 30 times. 🙄

            SPOILERS

            The title of Grave comes from a scene in the movie, when this teenage boy wants to make his little sister, five or so years old, happy, and they collect fireflies in a jar. They’re homeless and wandering, eking out an existance, and that night, in a tent, he releases them in their enclosed tent, and they fall asleep in a wondrous scene, watching them like stars above them in their tent. In the morning, she wakes up first and all the fireflies are dead, and she’s scooping out a little grave in the dirt for them. It’s the saddest, most poignant thing I’ve ever seen in animation. Later in the film she dies of pneumonia, and at the end he dies of starvation. Truly heartbreaking tragedy that Disney wouldn’t ever touch, although they did buy the rights to voice-act the whole Ghibli collection in English.

        Scaramucci is a street fighter, he may just be our own political James Comey, I like everything I have heard and read about him. I would love to see him smack the press down.

        Hmm… Remember I was just saying that Reince was sounding more like President Trump and actually gave a decent rebuttal to some thing or other which made me wonder if Trump was possibly wearing off on Reince? With the hiring of Scaramucci and Spicer’s resignation I now think that I could not have been more wrong about the slight possibility of Reince’s turning toward the light and away from his masters, Reince has seen the writing on the wall and knows that his days are likely numbered and was more than likely trying to appease POTUS.

          All I see and feel is there’s lots more Christ being pushed under decidedly non-Christian labels. And lots of jack being made by Christian labels, who are preaching to the choir.

            I remember being made to visit Zondervan’s™ print shop in the 80s, with our Assemblies of God™ Youth Group. Big company. Lots of different copywrighted books they call the Bible. It was the first time I heard the word “squeegee”, in that book factory, as part of a tour. They used a squeegee to pull the ink over a screen.

            I have a copy of the so-called Bible, changed sufficiently to legally get a copyright, called the Celebrate Recovery Bible. With lots of famous names on the cover, Rick Warren’s
            name being above the phrase, “Celebrate Recovery Bible” on the cover. It is, textually, sans all the sidebars and graphs and miscellaneous ADD-inducing visuals, the ever-changing copywritten Zondervan NIV.

            I’m not buying. I’m judging, I suppose, by not buying. God will judge.

              That so-called Bible is a heresy. It is the print equivalent of our Public School books. Knowledge:twisted.

              I went to one meeting. It was overtly Churchian, and it was a sales pitch for Zondervan Corp. I work downtown. I know what a sales display looks like, right under the lectern. I confessed my sins to these folks and never looked back. Bad vibes all around me.

                I love the KJV, it is beautiful…& most of my scripture memorization is from that precious version. BibleGateway.com can also be a helpful tool. You can look up scriptures & compare versions of the Bible. Occasionally another English version will resonate better with me personally on a particular point in a given passage.

                I find the “paraphrases” to be a bit more dangerous. In just stating things in modern language some of the depth, richness, & meaning of scripture is surely lost. However, these more modern stylistically “scriptures” occasionally speak to my husband, and they may make “The Word” slightly more accessible to the unchurched/lost.

                As far as the NIV goes, the original one, I had an Old Testament professor in grad school that was on its translation committee. Apparently there were many Biblical Languages scholars & experts (Christians & Jews, at least) and they looked at the “original” writings (Hebrew, Greek, & Aramaic) & did their best as committees to come to agreement as to the modern language equivalent. My understanding is that were there splits in their views as to the “correct” meaning then the alternative “translation” is presented in footnotes. I’ve personally found this NIV to be very meaningful & relevant (& it’s harder to get confused by some of the more archaic language of say the KJV).

                My husband has loved his New KJV & has an old NKJV that he’s practically worn out with his personal spiritual journey. The NKJV is Not to my taste because of all the KJV scriptures that I’ve internalized, it just never sounds quite right…

                None of this is meant as argument, just sharing with you, my brother…Blessings!

            I daresay I listen to a great deal more Christian music then you do and I find your opinion to be quite mistaken. Yes it does preach to the choir. It is supposed to. It cannot be nonstop witnessing all the time because to do that would ignore the problems believers face.

            That during this season you can find what appear to be Christian messages in secular music means very little.

        I really like what you said here!

        Early in my college days I heard of the death of Keith Green (& his children) leaving his pregnant wife Melody behind, & wept without really realizing who/what was lost. That was when I was really only learning about Christian music beyond what I’d been exposed to inside various churches…Apparently Keith Green used to have concerts & not charge for tickets, really giving his talent to the Lord. There are some songs that he did that could still take my breath away!

        But that tension between music as ministry &/or entertainment is something likely All Christian Artists must wrestle with…Most of my husband’s bands have eventually cut some CDs & they usually end up giving them away. On occasion they’ll get offered money for a gig, which they usually turn down…but I won’t lie & say he doesn’t wish he could have a “career” as a Christian musician.

        Doing what you love & what you are gifted at & being able to do it “full time” & feed your family seems like a delusional ideal for many who want their talents to be used for the Kingdom but aren’t in paid full time ministry…I guess this is why you get those “tent-makers”, because we all need to eat & we don’t want to be a “burden” on The Body…It is hard to subsidize ministry out of ones own pockets when operating in the black is a challenge (like during the entire Obama fiasco!)

      The Christian Rock music tent is pretty large. One local “artist” seems to be in a bunch of different bands, helps out with music in multiple churches & denominations, & is instrumental (no pun intended!) in getting gigs lined up for multiple venues & festivals.

      He was at a now defunct local Christian music festival a few years back painted up for his “Christian Death Metal” gig…& I kind of thought that concept could have been a contradiction in terms! He was adamant there was a whole Christian subculture there…

      It seems perhaps that the Lord can redeem most, if not all, forms of music if they are used to glorify Him…after all, isn’t that the actual Real purpose of music, to Worship God?

      I grew up in a traditional denomination but have passed through many different types of churches, joined a few, been in leadership in a couple…but don’t know if I’ve ever found one where I am in complete agreement, musically or doctrinally or administratively, etc.

      My husband, who was our current church’s Worship Director for a season, thinks music is (unfortunately) perhaps the most divisive thing on a Sunday morning…

      It seems we often are comfortable with what is familiar…or perhaps we run from it. Now I’m not partial to a droning organ but definitely have come to re-appreciate traditional hymns…especially if the music can be presented in a somewhat updated manner, like the Second Chapter of Acts “Hymns” album. There is depth & richness in so many of the lyrics even if the musical style may be a re-tooling of old drinking songs from the olden days (& if that rumor is true then there is nothing “sacred” in that music itself, per se, & it actually argues for the usage of modern forms to reach people perhaps!)

      Having spent years in non-denominational, independent, charismatic, & or pentecostal fellowships, I can definitely appreciate more lively music on Sunday. However, so many “worship” songs sung in our church today make me think that we sing to God with a “what have you done for me lately” or me, me, ME attitude. I am personally more drawn to scripture set to “relevant” music…but certainly appreciate music humbly offered to the Lord where the focus is on Him!

        Thank you, and Rhea, for your comments. The CCM industry and the copyright bible industry are two things I’ve struggled to understand for a long, long time — re: The Moneychangers. I used to collect cassette tapes from Christian music stores. I had the t-shirts and posters on my walls.

        Second Chapter of Acts — that brings back memories. Keith Green, I remember when he died, too, and likewise didn’t understand — at the time — what we lost.

        And, Valerie, VERY many hymns are re-tooled older drinking songs. Before the idea of copyright came about, you made a hymn with a melody people knew, right? Why not? People already know the melody, there’s your foot in the door!

        I had Amy Grant’s albums on vinyl. 😀 Petra’s, too. Petra had some wonderful album cover art.

        Ask hubby if he remembers Bloodgood. I saw them live. METAL!!!

          Have you seen Petra’s old singer John Schlitt rocking with John Elefante…& Jay Sekulow? on youtube…It’s really quite good & fun!

          I actually introduced my husband to Christian music, as I knew it then…& took him to his first ever concerts of any kind–Margaret Becker and later Randy Stonehill. Later we saw PFR, Dogs of Peace, and The 77s live. We still love some of the CDs we got in the 90s by being in a Christian music club that shipped CDs regularly to our Northwoods home…

          One of my old college roommates was Stephen Crumbacher’s “best friend” & when travelling with her to Southern California we saw him play live at some type of Christian teen dance club, something I’d never seen before.

          I found an old Crumbacher concert on youtube & there was my old roomie in the audience looking like I remember her from the 80s…as in the footage was from the 80s too.

          I can understand the tension & frustration between the commercialization of the “gospel” & the “freely you have received, now freely give” aspect of scripture.

          However, I am thankful for artists who “make it” so that some of us might actually get to hear/read their stuff…

          There’s a local Christian radio personality, Bob Dutko, who I’ve heard reference “Jesus Junk”…& though I can appreciate Christian merchandise sometimes I really wonder if it makes sense to spend 3-5X as much on breath mints just to get them in scripture laden wrappings. With our finances if we want those mints we go to the discount store…but if I had money would I invest in Christian business or start one myself if I had such acumen? Literally only God knows.

          On Moneychangers, etc…I also struggle with the concept of “the worker is worthy of his hire” (as in been a frustrated employee who’s been/allowed herself to be taken advantage of & aspects of that have left me feeling fairly sick inside & can still somewhat cripple my endeavors).

          I’ve worked in a number of overtly Christian settings (churches, schools, & hospitals) in volunteer & paid positions and have “baggage” of my own & of some friends to “unpack” here someday…I’ve witnessed “Christian” institutions operating with anything but what could be described as Christlike behavior & have really wrestled with these things personally & inter-personally. It’s extremely unsettling to encounter aspects of the world that seem to operate in a more godly manner than The Chosen…

          So I finally asked my husband since we’re both awake & near a computer…He’s heard of Bloodgood, but wasn’t familiar. He looked up their song “Messiah” on youtube & thought it was really good & it reminded him a lot of Stryper, whom he really likes & his previous band took loosely as an influence.

          From then &/or now he likes Whitecross, Seventh Day Slumber, Red, Pillar, Kutless, Skillet, Three Times Driven, Sonic Flood, Third Day, The 77s, Petra, Kerry Livgren etc, fyi.

          From the bands he’s gotten to play in (all Christian) the main ones have been Hard Christian Rock, Metal, somewhat near Pop Rock, & his current band that’s quite eclectic. The Lively Pelts are influenced by Jimmi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Jeff Beck, & Mountain…they are just working on an M cover. They mostly do original stuff and float between Classic Rock, Metal, & Blues. They’ve afforded my husband a chance to expand his musical repertoire & everything they do directly (or indirectly in the case of the “secular” covers) honors the Lord.

    Many years ago, (how time flies) and I cannot find the post at Ann Barnhardt’s site, she said that what makes a good, righteous song is this:

    1. You can imagine singing it to Christ himself. 2. You can imagine singing it to someone else, in front of Christ, and 3. You can imagine Christ singing it to you.

    She has a list of them at her site, quite the lovely musical playlist, and all according to those three precepts, those conditions. I just found it, and I haven’t browsed the list, yet. But I bet I could come up with quite a few secular tunes that ate on it, that are Christian, too — maybe even without the author being aware of it. Here’s one I bet is on it, by some cokehead who didn’t realize, or maybe did, that he was being used by God to subvert with his lyrics.

    He announced that Sarah Huckabee will be the Press Secretary. 👎🏽Booooo!!!!!

    Scaramucci b*tched slapped some dope about his previous negative statements about candidate Trump and said that he wrong and sorry that he made the statements while supporting another candidate.

    Scaramucci said “I take issue with the question” several times and then reframed and corrected the reporters question.

    Used the word “love” 12 times in reference to America and President Trump.

    Called President Trump a wonderful human being, unbelievable politician, fierce competitor and effective communicator. Oh, and Scaramucci loves Trump! 😊

    ”Reince was incredibly gracious.”😏 hmmm, why would Reince have any reason to be other than gracious ✓ unless of course he and Scaramucci really don’t like each other and Reince was not in the loop and Reince is not happy that Spicer is out the door.

    I think Scaramucci is going to be scary good.

    “I am close personal friends with Jay Sekulow.” What a different assessment of an actual friendship than Scaramucci’s categorization of his relationship with Reince as “two brothers who sometimes fight”. Reading between the lines Scaramucci does not like Reince.

    Scaramucci is really Comey-esque in his mannerisms, he is affable, acts perplexed by questions he doesn’t want to answer and uses simple language and over the top conversational language. Scaramucci loves Trump. Putin hates Clinton. We have our own knife fighter folks.

    Was Acosta not there or didn’t he get a question?

    The most chuckle worthy line of the presser is when the petulant John Robert’s snottily said “You are coming to the White House as an outsider” and Scaramucci deadpanned “Not quite as outside as you though.”

    This is going to be fun.

    Reading between the lines from Scaramucci’s answers Mueller is out. Scaramucci is very, very good at what he does, when asked something about Mueller he said something along the line of “I can’t answer questions about Mueler or the investigation because there are a lot of legal intricacies going on there and the president’s legal team is working on it.”

    And then we get Sarah who is asked “Does President Trump agree with his legal team’s efforts to undermine the Special Counsel.” And Sarah answers the question as if it has merit rather than treating it as an unfounded attack 😐.

    Scaramucci does a far better job of not allowing the press to redefine what he has just said than did Spicer or does Huckabee. Although Spicer was better than Huckabee.

    Today Alex went to the DMV to renew his license.
    When he was told to go have his picture taken he noticed that there were some men having their picture taken, these men were wearing turbins on there heads.
    Alex was asked to take his hat off to have his picture taken.
    He said “no”, and “no” again when asked the second time.
    When he was asked why he would not remove his hat he said, “those men didn’t remove their head wear, I shouldn’t either”.
    It was explained that this was their attire and their religion.
    Alex told the DMV person that what he had on was his attire and when he entered the Marines he declared an oath to the USA, and one nation under God, so that his oath was under God so just as good as his religion.
    Well, the DMV people didn’t know what to do, they spoke to supervisors and called Sacramento.
    Alex was told, after an hour, that he could wear his hat for the picture and if there were any problems they would let him know and he could appeal their decision.
    He told them if there was a problem he WILL appeal it.
    Alex feels no one has more right to display their head gear then a Veteran or active service person.
    When he left several employees at the DMV clapped quietly for him.
    He has spoken to few other Veterans and they plan to do the same.

    ALL VETERANS SHOULD DO THE SAME!! Time to start taking our country back from the liberal idiots bent on its destruction!

    PASS IT ON TO ALL YOUR VETERAN FRIENDS!!

    So on a completely random, more light-hearted note…I was looking up “movie musicals” online so I could order more flicks my kids won’t have time to watch with us. As an aside, 2 of our kids were cast in their high school’s production of Grease (Brandon, Josiah’s twin, as Danny Zucco–the Travolta character from the movie & Clarissa as Jan’s understudy). This began in both of them more of a love affair with musical productions…

    My husband & I really enjoyed these music based flicks, which we haven’t shown the kids:
    The Commitments
    Love & Mercy
    Begin Again

    Anyway they already love Fiddler On The Roof, The Sound of Music, & West Side Story (& B loves Singing in the Rain & C loves Les Miserables & the whole family loves Holiday Inn & White Christmas) & there are so many other good ones to show, but I couldn’t just randomly think of them. There were a couple of “top 50” lists I ran into with varying suggestions but I wonder if anyone else would like to weigh in?
