Honor the Fallen | Remembering those lost in the KC-130 crash
Marines Channel –
A memorial video for those lost in the KC-130 crash, July 10th, 2017.
These service members with Marine Forces Reserve VMGR-452 and Marine Corps Special Operations Command 2d Raider Battalion were lost when their KC-130T went down over Mississippi on July 10, 2017 while in transit from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Naval Air Field El Centro, California.
“On behalf of the entire Marine Corps, I offer my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the 15 Marines and sailor who perished earlier this week in Mississippi. Please keep them and those left behind in your thoughts and prayers.
We remain committed to the surviving families, and will continue the thorough investigation into the cause of this tragedy.”

I’ve heard there are foljs trying to remove ALL religious symbology from headstones and in most Federal and some public cemeteries they won’t allow Confederate flags of any kind to be placed on the graves of Cobfederate veterans.

I’ve always wondered if their band name was a poke in the eye to Christians.
I know they made great musics. But I’ve always wondered that.
Grateful Dead. Almost as if in answer to Gen 2:17. Heb. 9:17 John 11-17.
Rev. 20:14.
Always loved their earliest albums, especially Workingman’s Dead.
Even as I always wondered that.

I was invited to a 3-day hippie-music-fest tonight.
Not my scene. I said I’d think about it. The girl who invited me was 30 and sunny, and I’d love to get to know her, but no. That would be bad for me. Not into hedonism, and I’d rather ride my bike around town talking to people. Been there. Don’t want to go back.
Love the studio albums. Don’t love the live scene. I never did. I just pretended to, in my 20s, so I could get laid, or get respect from hippies.
I rode my bike around town tonight instead of attending a hippie-fest. And I influenced people in a Godly way. Better that way.

Last night I saw a black dude taking trash out of a restaurant, to the dumpster, like I have done so many times in my life. So black he had a purple shine.
I said, “Whassup, honkey!”
He looked up at me, puzzled, and then smiled and laughed when he saw my smile.
I said, “Have a good night, brother.” He did, too.
The black working-class generation is absolutely done with race as a trigger. I see it every day. They’re done with it. It’s old hat. It’s a dead horse. And they all know it, and they all know how to see the humor in it all. I credit Mel Brooks and the Wayans Bros.

I have a great friend, 10 years now, who is the lead in a Pat cover band.
She is absolutely amazing, and Benatar herself would be impressed. All they do is her covers. And the occasional Joan Jett song. They really do love rock & roll.
This lady becomes Pat Benatar on stage, with her hubby on bass, and the crowd normally can’t tell it’s not the real thing. They do shows around SW MI all summer long.
Me and her used to get into it, like cats and dogs, politically. Some years ago we both decided to quit talking politics. It’s never worth it, and now we are great friends.
She’s a waitress at the restaurant I used to work for, and a wonderful woman. And she can sing and perform onstage like you wouldn’t believe.

Also appeared in 50 music videos, and was assistant choreographer and dance captain (at 19) on Madonna’s Blonde Ambition Tour. He has danced with Michael Jackson, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson etc. His mother wouldn’t let him take dance lessons, but he did participate in gymnastics in high school. He took his first dance class at USC, and was hired for the Madonna tour almost immediately. Goes to show you that if you are determined, you can go far.

My DIL took Irish step dance classes for years, still does. She took me to see Riverdance. Those dancers are art, energy, power, and beauty in motion.
I loved the show, but I looked over at my DIL and she had tears running down her cheeks. I think both because she was taken by the power of the show, although it was not her first time to see it, she actually saw the original, but also out of gratitude and memory. She grew up really poor and somehow her mother managed to take her to see that show as a teen. She is now so genuinely appreciative of her every blessing. It’s a beautiful trait to see, and makes you realize how much most of us take our blessings for granted.

I rode down and took those this morning when I woke up.
I met a 17-year old kid on the pier just after I took that first pic. Turns out he’s the son of the guy that got me hired at my last restaurant as a dishwasher, he was the head cook, and he passed away in 2009 from a bad seizure.
Kid was setting up his poles for steelhead-fishing, while we watched all the boats go out for coho salmon fishing. I told him if he applies at my old place, he will be hired just based on his name. I met him once when he was like 8 and in Little League. I told him, “Yep, I’m a professional dishwasher, and your Dad’s partly to blame for that.” He laughed.
When you go out into town in the morning, all the people you meet are morning people.
I love that.

You’re right, Menagerie. I am a lucky man. I try to deserve that.
A few minutes ago I told former Bossman that I met this kid.
He said, “Yeah, I know the kid. No ambition whatsoever. Aimless. Going nowhere.”
I said to him, “No ambition? He’s fishing with multiple poles at 0700 in the morning?”
I was right — former Bossman has nothing good to say about anyone. Not even the son of his former head cook. Sad. He goes to St. Basil’s each Sunday, too. I’m not sure what he learns, there. I sit outside and pray, looking up at the church.

He may be wasting his time inside, you may be losing opportunities outside. Who knows but God? Perhaps he is a bettter man than he would have been without his attendance at mass. We are all on a long journey, and we take plenty of stumbles, turns, and side trips.
If I have learned one thing since I was baptized, well even before, it’s that the path to heaven for most of us is a crooked winding sometimes rocky one. Because we make it so.

Former Bossman is a wonderful man. His whole family is wonderful.
He just seldom has anything good to say about anyone. I cannot imagine living like that, while being so blessed with prosperity and good workers and four restaurants. He looks for, and speaks of, the negative in everyone, instead of the opposite.
I’ll continue to sit outside, look up at the Cross, and pray.
I’m doing a catering job for St. Basil’s this afternoon, in about an hour.
Go figure. 🙂

It could be as simple as how he was raised. I have finally figured out that my mother’s constant criticism came from her family. One of her most used sayings was “The only thing I don’t like about that is………”. I had a really hard time erasing that from my vocabulary. If I made a decision her response was “Are you sure you want to do that?”

Same here. I didn’t have my son until I was 42 and I am glad because it gave me a chance to grow up and get rid of a lot of that. But, I still work hard at it because I catch myself saying things I don’t want to hear myself say. I don’t tell my son and DIL what to do, although I have to admit, I nearly had a heart attack when they told me they were going to stay in a campground for a week or so until their new house was ready. At the time, her baby was due anytime. 🙄

My first boyfriend met my family & commented about how incredibly critical everyone was of each other…& these were all people who loved the Lord…it’s an easy trap to fall into & I have to consciously work at Not being so critical (but of course just analytical). So many of my current family members are very sensitive emotionally that it’s relatively easy to discern when I’ve spoken too harshly. We vow to never be like our parents & then so often repeat the patterns…

Just wondering Wooly, what is wonderful about your former bossman other than he is a child of God and we should see Christ in him so he is therefore wonderful.
Seems to me he is a self serving jerk who abuses and uses everyone and anyone he considers beneath his station in life.
I’m not asking in a petulant way but in all honesty I’d like to know what you see as wonderful in him. I work with a lot of people and I have to find the wonderful in them. If I said one of them was wonderful most people would scoff.
Often when I talk about these folks on here I change some identifiers but never the heart of the personality or situation.
One fellow was abandoned by his dad when he was a baby, and mother doesn’t talk to him (she abused him for years and sabotaged every healthy relationship he tried to be part of.) The world sees him as a young felon, a thief, a druggie, a boozer, a liar, slothful, I see the broken man who is trying to better his life, the man who everyday says today I won’t drink or use, today I will pray for my parents, today I will work at motivating myself to do something I don’t want to do but dang my old life is tempting.
But today I try.
There is something about being a small small boy and waking up on the floor with rats licking up your drunken mother’s vomit that does something deeply troubling to the soul.
Most people don’t see that he is trying, even though he has been clean and sober for over 2 years now. They see a felon, a thief, a druggie, a boozer, a liar, a slothful bum even though he has been employed for over a year and shows up to work every day.
Anyhow what are some of your old bossman’s redeeming qualities? People don’t have to have redeeming qualities in order for us to love them and pray for their conversion or for us to be kind to them but I’m surprised that you think he is wonderful.
And I may just be overthinking your comment, here is my concern in a nutshell (It just struck me that I wasn’t sure why I was bothered by you calling him wonderful) I think we have to be careful to safeguard ourselves against toxic people in our lives and I feel like he is a toxic person in your life. Acknowledging that keeps you safe from his attempts to manipulate you but doesn’t mean you are any less charitable in your heart or actions toward him.
Steps back over a line I hope I haven’t crossed.

The person who is trying to overcome his past via (sometimes) small triumphs reminds me of so many people at Celebrate Recovery. That is a Christian 12 Step Program, and many of my husband’s various bands have played for them, providing worship/rock music for the beginning of their services. They talk about overcoming habits, hurts, & hangups. The people that came to the CR services I witnessed seemed overflowing with love & grace for each other…& incredibly understanding of the weaknesses & failures of others. They provide a testimony to the power of Christ to heal, redeem, & transform even the most broken among us.

In fact, it seems like most of the guys my husband has “rocked” with have been delivered out of the darkness in some pretty amazing ways. Their ability to use their gifts to Glorify the Lord & to humbly share some of their testimonies of God’s Grace in setting them free (of course as works in progress!), are tangible representations of how “what Satan meant for evil God uses for good”.
Wherever those places of bondage or brokenness lie within us, when surrendered to the Lord they may actually be the key to our most powerful witness–because we Know that we didn’t set ourselves free…that was the Work of Christ!

I think that’s true. People who have embraced their relationship with God are seekers. They openly investigate different paths in order to find the one that suits them best.
My mom was nominally a Presbyterian. We attended the Evangelical and Reformed Church when I was a child (like Lutheran), and she taught Sunday School there, cooked for Rotary, was quite involved.
BUT, she also investigated other paths. She went to prayer meetings at a Pentacostal church with a friend, experienced speaking in tongues, later became a Baptist, and finally joined the Christian Missionary Alliance Church with my aunt.
I remember (in Bible school) attending other religious houses of God – Jewish and Methodist stick in my mind. I don’t think that is wrong, as long as you understand the beliefs.

I always wanted to attend a synagogue but never felt it was okay (from their standpoint, not mine) to just stroll in, not knowing the customs and whether non Jews were welcome. I once had a customer who promised to take me but he never did.
Before I got involved in RCIA I thought about joining Bible classes in one of the Protestant churches but that wouldn’t have worked down here. The fellowship I wanted would have, in all likelihood been friction IRL, and we do not go at Biblical interpretation the same way in many cases.
Sometimes I miss the friendliness, the commonality and cohesiveness of the small churches here in the south. Their unity in caring for the sick and bereaved, the Homecoming Days with food out the wazoo, the “singings” they have. There is a more spontaneous joy in many of the congregations than you typically find in the larger Catholic parishes.

There is a relatively small local church that hosts a ladies Bible study that I prefer over the one at my own church, especially because it tends to draw people from many other churches & denominations and the varied viewpoints provide such a richness to our understanding of The Word…haven’t been in years, though, so maybe this Fall I’ll get that domain back “together” a bit again…

I’ve let myself get out of the habit, but two years ago I walked so much that I reached the limit of how fast I could physically go and was having some trouble getting my HR up where I wanted it. I got some trekking poles and that really helped. Also, I bought a good rebounder and that is great exercise, easy on the joints, and has quite a few other health benefits besides the aerobic exercise.

I had trouble getting my heart rate up back in my early 30’s when I was doing so much aerobics. I was doing the really hard and fast ones. I finally slowed down and did the movements much slower which strangely got my heart rate up. I was in such good shape back then. I was never tired and slept really well at night.

I did Callanetics for a while, which seems really easy when you watch someone else do it, but not so easy when it is you! All about small movements rather than large ones, but still challenging.

LOL I actually liked the fast movements much better than the slower ones for some reason. And, I tried yoga, but it bored me to tears and stressed me out. Which was hysterical since it was supposed to relax you.

Good morning. I was just wondering who, aside from my husband, likes grapefruit. Although I ought to try it again because I haven’t tried it in forty years or so, and now I really like very tart drinks. Maybe I’d like grapefruit now. At least in the smoothies.
I remember years ago there was a grapefruit diet. I thought if it came down to having to eat grapefruit I would never lose weight.

I like pink or red grapefruit, and it is sweet later in the season. If you can order them from Florida, even better. Florida grapefruit is not the prettiest, but it is the tastiest. You are better off (in my experience) buying smaller fruit, but heavy, because they have thinner skin, but more fruit/juice. I don’t ever put sugar on it.

PS: Don’t eat the pith. Use a grapefruit knife to remove just the fruit, or ‘supreme’ the fruit and add it to a fruit salad.

I don’t get the point of sugar on it. It’s like some of the comments I see in the Fitbit posts I follow. People show all kinds of vegan or vegetarian foods that they have loaded down with fats and cheeses to make palatable. Useless for health reasons. Like what you eat, use flavorful fats and cheeses sparingly, and it seems to me you are better off.

I agree it’s better to eat your veg and fruit without lots of fat and sugar. However, if it gets someone to eat something healthy, they are still getting the vitamins and minerals in the fruit/veg, even if they are also getting the fat and sugar (which they probably get anyway).

OK…..this is clearly a Korean delicacy.
The name suggests endorsement by Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters
Hagfish…slime eels.
An ugly primitive sea creature is fetching sort of pretty prices for some Oregon fishermen. With an abundantly available resource and willing buyers, a number of fishermen are cashing in on a relatively small, but extremely hungry Asian market, most notably Korea.
By any name, hagfish – also known as slime eels – are not among nature’s beauties. But they play a vital role in the ocean ecosystem as bottom-feeding scavengers, and among folks in Korea, they are prized as edible delicacies and even considered aphrodisiacs. Their hides yield, among other things, eel-skin wallets that patrons can use to shell out the money needed to purchase the eels of their choice from a restaurant’s live tanks in a process similar to selecting live lobsters.
Demand for both flesh and hide exceeds supply, particularly in Korea, where hagfishing is almost nil due to extensive overfishing.
Frank Button, owner of F/V First Hope out of Newport, Oregon, said he has fished for what some call “snot snakes” for the past three years off the Oregon coast, and is currently landing about 7,000 to 18,000 pounds of the live wiggling slimers each trip.

I can’t stop watching this. Not only have I passionately loved Van Gogh’s art since I was in junior high, these actors bring this scene to vivid life. For me it’s as if I’m seeing Van Goth really time travel, and the other man really ask himself “Did I just…no, ?” Worth the watch.

Thanks Menagerie, it gave me goosebumps and tears. I love Van Gogh.
There was a Van Gogh exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago, part of the exhibit was a replica of his bedroom which was the inspiration for Bedroom in Arles. He painted life and color into that room, seeing it in full scale was sad, the bed was tiny, maybe 3 feet wide and it just struck me how alone he was in the world, I started crying only to look over and see my daughter crying and we both said, “It’s just so sad.”

I would love the opportunity to see some of his art. If I could voice what I love about him, I would say exactly what the man in the video said. Everyone of course has different taste in art, which is wonderful, but to me, every other artist pales beside the life Van Gogh brings to paintings. To me, they are never two dimensional, but almost seem to jump off the canvas.
A few years ago the faux finisher in me fell in love with the art of Gustav Klimt.

I agree about Van Gogh, he is passion on canvas, it is the world through his eyes encumbered by demand.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
